Chapter 1236: Chapter 389: Adding Another Shop_2

Compared to the home devoid of warmth that she once knew, this place felt more like a family. Every time she thought back, she was endlessly grateful for her resolute decision. Had she not mustered the courage to seek help from the Mo Family, she would probably have been sold to such a place, living a fate worse than death. Perhaps she would’ve already become a shovelful of yellow soil, quietly vanishing from this world without a trace.

In her years with the Mo Family, she had learned so much that she could no longer apart from this place, nor did she wish to leave. She hadn’t forgotten her role and was well aware that she shouldn’t take the kindness of the Mo Family for granted, or else everything she had could be lost at any moment.

All she wanted was to work hard and repay the kindness of the Mo Family. As long as they needed her, no matter what they asked of her, she would not hesitate. Yet, she had never imagined that the Mo Family would entrust her with the profitable rice shop.

The feeling was akin to her getting used to earning her keep through hard work and planning to continue in that way when suddenly a huge piece of fat meat fell from the sky in front of her, making her realize that she possessed even greater value. This revelation undoubtedly inspired her!

Taking several deep breaths, Tang Xin met Mo Yan’s encouraging gaze, stood up, and spoke solemnly, "Sister Yanyan, I will manage the rice shop with all my heart and never disappoint you."

Seeing her so decisive, Mo Yan felt even more satisfied and encouraged her, "Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, just do your best! For the time being, you should familiarize yourself with the rice shop under Grandfather Li’s guidance. If there is anything you don’t understand, ask him directly. Don’t keep it to yourself. Once you’re sure you can take over the rice shop, I’ll bring Grandfather Li back."

The girl had faced too many setbacks and tribulations, which had made her more resilient than others her age. In fact, Mo Yan had not misjudged her.

Tang Xin nodded repeatedly, expressing her gratitude, "Sister Yanyan, I understand."

And so, the matter was settled. The following day, Mo Yan took Tang Xin to the rice shop and had a long talk with Lizhong in a small room. When Lizhong emerged, he began to patiently teach Liyan how to manage all aspects of the shop.

Although the rice shop was chaotic, it was not hard to manage with care. Having Lizhong, a former Store Manager, overseeing it was truly an underuse of his talents.

Now that Mo Yan had entrusted Lizhong with the more important task of managing the winery, it was a sign of trust in him, which Lizhong was well aware of. Having grown accustomed to life at the rice shop and finding joy in it, he would not cling to his own comfort at the expense of the Mo family winery which needed him more.

Lizhong taught with dedication, and Tang Xin learned with great effort. Within a few days, the two formally completed the handover, and the Shopkeeper of the rice shop became the not-yet-fourteen-year-old Tang Xin.

Previously, aside from Lizhong, who was always at the rice shop, Tie Tou, who was newly married and yet to be a father, would take turns going home with Wang Pangtou. At least one of them would stay in the shop every day to keep Lizhong company. This was to prevent break-ins or other threats that might cause losses.

Now that Tang Xin was the Shopkeeper, and given that she was a woman and the rice shop had only one room available for sleeping, things became less convenient. During spring, summer, and autumn it was fine; they could lock the shop and walk back to Liu Yang Village with Tie Tou or Wang Fat, but in winter, when dawn came late and nightfall early, this daily commute became impractical.

If they encountered rainy or snowy weather, and it was inconvenient to return, the three would have to stay in the shop to prevent roof leaks from spoiling the grain.

After a hint from Tang Xin, Mo Yan realized this problem and decided to rent a separate room in the city for Tang Xin. Resultingly, Lizhong suggested that she find an opportunity to buy the Cloth Shop next door.

The Cloth Shop’s owner was from out of town and had struggled for decades in Jing City before owning this modestly sized shop. Unfortunately, as a middle-aged man with only a daughter and no son to inherit his business, now that his daughter was married off, he and his wife were getting older and finding it increasingly difficult to run the shop. They wanted to sell it and retire to their hometown with the silver.

The Cloth Shop was well-situated and of decent size. Plus, wanting to find a sucker to make a big sum for his retirement, the owner set a high price. The shop was smaller than the rice shop, yet he demanded a high price of four or five hundred pieces, one thousand liang more than the value of the rice shop.

Initially, interested buyers deemed it not worth the value and thus backed off. The Cloth Shop owner wasn’t in a rush to sell and was unwilling to lower the price. Months had gone by, and the shop still hadn’t sold.
