Chapter 1193: Chapter 377: A Bamboo Basket Sparks a Business Opportunity_4

"Little Divine Doctor, no matter what you say, a bamboo basket isn’t worth this price. If you insist on paying so much, I just won’t take this silver coin. It’s better than being talked about behind my back for my greed," Mrs. Hou had her own principles and adamantly refused the money.

She didn’t know that Mo Yan offered a high price because she valued her craftsmanship. In the future, she would have to teach the skill to others, and if they still went by five wen money, she would be at a huge loss. She couldn’t think of this, so no matter what Mo Yan said, she wouldn’t accept the price of fifteen wen.

Mrs. Hou’s stubbornness was a headache for Mo Yan. Seeing that she truly didn’t want it, Mo Yan gave in first after much persuasion. Eventually, they both compromised and agreed on ten wen per basket.

It would be Mrs. Hou’s business to decide how to distribute the ten wen when she hired helpers to weave. She had the right to take half of the money for teaching them this new type of basket. Given what she did today, it seemed unlikely she would do so.

After sending Mrs. Hou off, Mo Yan immediately locked herself in the study, where Ink Grinder quickly drew several drafts of the bamboo baskets. These drafts were based on the wine bottle designs she had previously prepared. The wine bottles and the bamboo baskets that would hold them in the future would both carry the winery’s logo.

The logo was meticulously designed by Yan Junyu. At first glance, it was a uniquely shaped vessel (wine cup) that incorporated a pictograph of the word "wine." If one didn’t look closely, the word was hard to make out.

In any case, the logo was full of aesthetic and artistic appeal, unforgettable at first sight. Mo Yan could find no fault with it, so it was settled. Just recently, a large sculpture of the logo had been erected at the entrance of the winery.

Mrs. Hou was quick to act, and in just a few days, she had assembled a team of twenty helpers. Out of these, five were from her own village, and the remaining fifteen were from several neighboring villages.

She chose a cooler evening and purposely brought these twenty people to the Mo Family home for Mo Yan to review.

Mo Yan trusted Mrs. Hou’s judgment; after looking them over and asking a few questions, she felt they were quite suitable and nodded her approval on the spot. However, twenty people still seemed too few. After some thought, she decided to have Mrs. Hou teach the skill to several other reliable and knowledgeable villagers.

Mrs. Hou didn’t let Mo Yan down. Along with her need for stable work to support herself and her husband, she earnestly explored the more complex methods of weaving bamboo baskets that Mo Yan had shown her. Once she had mastered them herself, she carefully taught another thirty people.

In less than half a month, these thirty people were weaving competently and meeting Mo Yan’s standards.

Having resolved another major issue, even the sweltering heat couldn’t dampen Mo Yan’s good mood. Thinking of the twenty-three children on the estate, she decided to visit Du’s Medical Hall. If she could get her master’s agreement, she could start preparing earlier.

As always, Du’s Medical Hall was bustling with activity. As soon as Mo Yan entered, she got busy. By now, she was able to prescribe treatments for less complex illnesses on her own and only called on her master for approval if she was unsure.

This increased efficiency a lot, and they finished with patients two hours earlier than usual. The weather was so hot that few people came around noon, so the master and apprentice retreated to the back to rest. That’s when Mo Yan shared her thoughts.

After listening, Doctor Du neither nodded nor shook his head, but instead looked at his sole disciple and asked, "You tell me first, what is a doctor?"

What is a doctor? Faced with her master’s stern expression, Mo Yan suddenly felt lost...
