Chapter 1138: Chapter 363: Two Wedding Invitations, Being a Bridesmaid_3

Mo Yan hummed dismissively, uninterested in dealing with someone who only had eyes for money. Looking down, she noticed the old man silently shedding tears, presumably hurt by his own son, and she let out a soft sigh, comforting him, "Old man, don’t worry. If you take good care of your leg for a few months, it won’t affect your ability to walk or work the fields in the future."

The elder quickly wiped his face and expressed his gratitude, "I know, I know, thank you, Little Divine Doctor."

Mo Yan shook her head with a smile, and after she had changed the man’s dressing and securely re-bandaged the splint, she moved on to another patient.

There were many out there like the old man, saddled with unfilial sons, beyond the intervention of outsiders. All Mo Yan could do was her best to heal the old man’s leg injury without leaving complications, anything more was beyond her reach.

After attending to those who needed their dressing changed and adjusting medicines for others, Mo Yan found herself with free time and went to the study to attend to other matters.

Before long, Liyan hurried in, saying, "Sister Yanyan, Master Cui is here; he is waiting in the hall."

Master Cui? Cui Pingan?

Mo Yan got up to go to the main hall but then realized her clothes weren’t suitable for receiving guests. She said to Liyan, "You greet him first; I’ll change my clothes and be right there."

Liyan glanced at Mo Yan’s dusty attire, the kind one would wear only while treating patients, nodded, and went out.

After changing her clothes, Mo Yan entered the main hall and saw Cui Pingan seated properly, a joyful expression he couldn’t quite contain on his face, and she had a hunch why this fellow had come by so suddenly.

Indeed, upon seeing Mo Yan, Cui Pingan couldn’t wait to pull out a big red wedding invitation, grinning foolishly as he said, "Young master’s getting married, and I specifically came to deliver this invitation to you. You must come, alright?"

Seeing the happiness on Cui Pingan’s face, Mo Yan felt happy for him. She took the red invitation and opened it, noting that the wedding date was set for March 20th, and teased, "You sure move fast. Will I be receiving an invitation to your son’s full-month celebration this time next year?"

Ever since setting the wedding date, Cui Pingan had been the subject of much teasing and had thus developed a thick skin. After hearing Mo Yan’s words, he glared at her with an elder’s authority chiding, "A girl yet to be married, such words do not befit you."

Mo Yan rolled her eyes and silently closed the invitation, "What did I say? Are you not going to have children?"

Cui Pingan, ultimately no match for her, instantly turned red-faced, "You’re talking nonsense again. How can a man bear children?"

Mo Yan burst out laughing. She suddenly felt the generation gap between them was as vast as the Mariana Trench, "Forget it, forget it. I can’t reason with you. I’ll come and offer my congratulations at your place on the day. If there’s nothing else, you better hurry on. I’m busy here!"

"What, you’re driving me off?" Cui Pingan’s eyes widened, and if not for Mo Yan’s look of disdain, he almost thought his ears had tricked him, "Humph, you’re quite rude, there’s no reason to kick a guest out! Since the young master’s in a good mood today, you cook a few fine dishes at noon, and the young master, generous as always, won’t take your discourtesy to heart."

Cui Pingan had long craved the delicacies of the Mo Family and had intended to linger for a meal before heading home. He didn’t expect Mo Yan to shoo him away and lose face. With those words, he felt as if he had regained his dignity, proudly watching Mo Yan.

"You just want to freeload a meal from us, don’t you?" Mo Yan looked at Cui Pingan half-amused, piercing right through his thoughts, "You can have a meal, sure. But the old rule applies: go split the firewood in our woodshed, and this County Lord will personally cook at noon, preparing a table full of good wine and dishes to treat you well."

"You—you’re bullying me again? Humph, don’t even think about it!" Cui Pingan abruptly stood up, leaving these words behind as he turned and strode out.

Watching with an amused smile, Mo Yan didn’t utter a word of protest, quietly counting to herself. Hardly making it to three, the man whirled around back to her and said fiercely, "Fine, I’ll split the wood. It’s not like I haven’t done it before! But if there’s no sweet and sour pork loin at noon, it’s not over between us."

After dropping his threat, Cui Pingan stormed out the back door, made his way to the utility room familiarly, grabbed his usual axe, and headed straight for the woodshed. Soon, the sound of chopping wood echoed from within, leaving the two servants who arrived later bewildered.
