Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Successful Escape (2)_1
With the blade pressed against his neck, Shouzi dared not withhold information. Once Mo Yan signaled for the cloth in his mouth to be removed, he spilled the beans about the children’s whereabouts.
After getting the information, Mo Yan, under the admiring gaze of the girls, sheathed her treasured sword, "Later, run along the route I mapped out earlier. If you’re discovered, split into groups of four and scatter! Remember, once outside, find help as quickly as possible to rescue those children."
"Little Sister Mo, what about you? Aren’t you coming with us?" Liu Tinglan asked urgently. Having endured hardships together over the past few days, she had come to regard this girl, one year younger than herself but smart and strong, as her own little sister.
Mo Yan was touched but shook her head, "You all go first. I want to see if I can rescue the children. I’m worried that you fleeing might alert the other traffickers, and they could harm the kids."
Liu Tinglan clenched Mo Yan’s hand tightly, shaking her head vigorously, "How can you rescue those children alone? You should come with us, and once we’ve escaped, we’ll immediately seek help for them."
The others joined in, trying to persuade her.
Mo Yan gripped Liu Tinglan’s hand reassuringly, "Miss Liu, I’ll be alright. You and the others need to leave quickly, or it will be too late."
She then added to the others, "Be very careful. If you get caught by the traffickers and can’t escape, don’t resist, to avoid provoking them. Understand?"
Seeing they couldn’t persuade Mo Yan, everyone nodded helplessly, leading Liu Tinglan out of the cellar, repeatedly looking back as they ascended the stairs.
Once everyone else had left, Mo Yan looked emotionlessly at Shouzi lying on the ground; she was tempted to finish him with her sword. However, she had never spilt human blood—even though she had killed chickens and ducks before—such people should be dealt with by the government, she reasoned.
Shouzi lay there, eyes wide with terror, watching Mo Yan ascend the steps, aware that she contemplated killing him.
Mo Yan, holding a lamp, hid behind a rockery to observe. It was deathly silent around her—evidently, Liu Tinglan and the others hadn’t alerted the kidnappers.
But she felt relieved too soon. Just as she was about to leave the rockery to search for the abducted children, noise came from the front courtyard. She vaguely heard someone shouting, "Hurry, come out, they’ve escaped, they’ve escaped."
A shock ran through Mo Yan’s heart, she gritted her teeth, and edged towards a solitary courtyard where she used the lamp to set the building on fire...
"Let go of me, let go! You can’t arrest me!"
Fat Brother, his arms pinned behind him and forced to kneel, struggled in vain. He had never imagined that he would ever be caught.
"Stop it, behave!"
A soldier punched Fat Brother in the stomach. His face turned white, and he dared not resist any further, glaring at the soldier viciously.
Xiao Ruiyuan watched the twenty kidnappers kneeling in two rows with an icy expression, "Take them to the Bureau of Military Office. I will interrogate them personally."
For someone to own such a large estate in Jing City and to dare to kidnap thirty people during the lantern festival, these weren’t ordinary traffickers. He wanted to see who was backing them.
Fat Brother, Yanniang, and the others looked at Xiao Ruiyuan with uncertainty. If taken to the Government Office, they could easily get off, but if taken away by this man emanating a murderous aura, who didn’t care about their connections, their past deeds could get them executed ten times over.
Thinking this, one of them couldn’t help but cry out, "Sir, you can’t arrest us; we have backers. If you dare to arrest us, that person will not let you off."
Xiao Ruiyuan sneered coldly, as if mocking the trafficker’s naivety. He waved his hand, too lazy to speak another word.
The twenty belligerent traffickers were taken away, and the courtyard finally quieted down. Looking at the rescued women and children, Xiao Ruiyuan’s eyes fell on the woman in the crowd who was holding a crying child and comforting him in a soft voice.
The woman, as if sensing his gaze, looked up and met a pair of profound eyes. For some reason, her heart skipped a beat.
This was the first encounter between the two since Xiao Ruiyuan had left without saying goodbye.
Just when Mo Yan thought he might say something, he turned to leave. However, the large silver dog, Dabai, that had been by his side—seeming formidable to others—suddenly lunged at Mo Yan like a flash of lightning!
It all happened in the blink of an eye. Xiao Ruiyuan watched the horrifying scene unfold, helpless to stop it.
Amidst screams of terror, Mo Yan was caught off-guard and knocked to the ground by Dabai, hitting her head and immediately blacking out!
