Chapter 97: Chapter 43 Fierce Sword Firefly! The Faint Blue Ghost Lamp in the Night!_2
But now, the ghost fires were falling, as if they were sucking, drawing the Power of Death from the forest.
The scene before them was somewhat like when the Star Worm absorbed the Life Essence of a Demon Beast corpse, strands of ghost fire pulsating light and dark, "sucking" from the earth. Soon, one could see wisps of black Death Energy being extracted from the earth and entering into the ghost fire.
As time passed, the pale blue ghost fire gradually began to change color, black started to contaminate the pale blue, and it became more and more prevalent.
Eventually, the ghost fire that absorbed the fastest turned completely black and then, with a crisp "pop," the ghost fire suddenly extinguished, and the Death Energy it had absorbed vanished along with it.
Witnessing this magical sight, Freyja, who rode the Floral Blue Leopard beside Char, couldn’t help but exclaim, "Prophet Kedel is truly amazing to have cultivated such a miraculous magic plant like the Ghost Lamp Green Vine, this is simply the nemesis of the undead!"
Although Freyja came from a ordinary small village in the Elf Clan with a very ordinary background, her experiences were anything but ordinary.
As a reserve member of the "Burning Ring," and with an aunt who was a Deputy Commander of the "Burning Ring," her knowledge was very high.
As far as she knew, there were several methods to remove Death Energy, but none as easy and simple as this one, and without needing to give much in return.
Without a doubt, Kedel had created a highly effective method of subduing the undead, enough to make a name for himself in history, as well as in the cultivation of magic plants.
After her exclamation, Freyja couldn’t help feeling regretful.
"If Prophet Kedel hadn’t sacrificed himself, he certainly would have achieved even greater feats."
Char agreed with a nod.
Although these ghost fires were one-time use only, saturating and then "self-destructing," and each strand of ghost fire actually absorbed not a lot of Death Energy,
even so, the effect was very good.
Because the Ghost Lamp Green Vine was a magic plant, as long as it had seeds left and was in an environment with free Death Energy in the air, it could grow strong.
It simply needed no fussing over, nor any extra care.
And, the more it was filled with Death Energy, the more it was in an environment with roaming undead, the faster it grew.
What if it could not be reused? What if it could only clear a small area of Death Energy at a time?
As long as it wasn’t destroyed by the undead, that small patch of Ghost Lamp Green Vine would one day expand into a large area, eventually eradicating all the Death Energy completely!
That the Ghost Lamp Green Vine could perform in such a way was beyond Char’s expectations, as for it to mature immediately and then repair vast swathes of forest corrupted by Death Energy, he had never considered that from the start.
Such a paradoxical entity was not something Kedel, a level 10 Natural Prophet, could create. If he could create such a thing that naturally checked the undead and the Death Domain, he would have become divine in one step.
Finally, all of the ghost fires had extinguished, and on the ground, a small patch of soil had returned to its normal color.
Seeing this, Char glanced at the system map.
On the map, several targets mentioned by Kedel were prominently noticeable, still within his power domain, so he simply didn’t test the abilities of the Fierce Sword Firefly, and directly ordered the Thunder Night Dragon, "Since we’re already here, why not take down the Thorny Bone Snake tonight, Thunder Night Dragon! Lure it over! Oh right, leave the Undead Bone Flute here."
Regardless of the test, the Fierce Sword Firefly had reached a Challenge Level of 7, its specific skills could just be seen in the heat of battle.
The Thunder Night Dragon let out a joyful cry, instantly turning into a phantom shadow, flying out and leaving a whirlwind behind.
It was petty and vengeful, hating the Thorny Bone Snake that had injured it and caused it embarrassment in front of Char. If it was confident before, it would have long wanted to take the enemy down.
Now that Char finally permitted it, how could it not be excited?
From the sky, something fell, and Char caught it with his hand, it was the damp Undead Bone Flute.
"Let’s back off a bit."
Char said to Freyja beside him.
The main force in this battle would definitely be the Thunder Night Dragon and Fierce Sword Firefly, others would just play supporting roles, dealing with the minions of the Thorny Bone Snake.
To join the Thunder Night Dragon and Fierce Sword Firefly in cornering the Thorny Bone Snake?
"Who would do something so dangerous?"
Even with two Magic Pets shielding them at the front, it was perilous for both him and Freyja.
Char was very clear about his role, with no intention to compete for bravery or ferocity.
Freyja, riding the Floral Blue Leopard, readily agreed and quickly retreated with Char towards the distance.
She fought bravely and was tough, even fearless in the face of sacrifice, but that did not mean she was impulsive, combative, and unwilling to heed advice. When there was no need to take risks, she too preferred not to, devoid of any desire to show off.
...
Perched upon a withered giant tree, the Thorny Bone Snake felt the ground tremble once again; it knew that its minions had been slaughtered again.
This time, the emotionless Thorny Bone Snake almost felt driven to anger.
The massive snake body swiftly dropped down, rapidly slithering towards the source of the tremors.
Just as expected!
It was that damned Flying Lizard again!
Then, as had happened many times before, the Thunder Night Dragon immediately retreated upon seeing the Thorny Bone Snake.
How could the Thorny Bone Snake let it escape?
The White Bone Spear, which had been readied during its approach, was immediately launched at the Thunder Night Dragon, who responded with a swipe of its claw, knocking down some of the spears, and then with nimble evasion, it dodged the remaining attacks.
The dragon and the snake engaged in this chase and escape, occasionally clashing, quickly covering seven or eight kilometers, when finally the Thunder Night Dragon stopped running.
It turned and unleashed the Thunder Annihilation Cannon it had been charging for a while.
The purple-blue lightning tore through the night sky, striking the Thorny Bone Snake’s not yet fully solid bone shield in an instant.
The greatest attribute of lightning attacks is their speed; even beings of the same level hardly have time to react and set up their defense—unless they act in advance.
The Thorny Bone Snake was no exception. Although it was already aware of the Thunder Night Dragon’s attack pattern and was on guard, it could not fully block the attack.
The Thunder Annihilation Cannon pierced through the White Bone Giant Shield, blasting the Thorny Bone Snake away.
But upon landing, the damaged parts of the Thorny Bone Snake’s body began to rapidly regenerate.
The Thunder Night Dragon was already accustomed to the Thorny Bone Snake’s incredible recovery ability. If not for this ability, the snake would have long since perished under its thunder and lightning.
Thus, while it swiftly flew through the night, dodging the spear attacks, it continued to unleash thunder from its claws, countering the Thorny Bone Snake.
From the looks of it, the Thunder Night Dragon had the upper hand, but the situation changed when the Thorny Bone Snake’s minions arrived.
One dragon and one snake, one in the sky and one on the ground, engaged in fierce combat.
Just then, from within the undead vision of the Thorny Bone Snake, a light appeared. It saw the Fierce Sword Firefly approaching at high speed; en route, the flames writhing around its wrist surged like a coiling dragon around the longsword, eventually converging at the tip.
In the blink of an eye, the two longswords in Fierce Sword Firefly’s hands transformed into Flame Swords.
Then Fierce Sword Firefly aimed for the Thorny Bone Snake’s eyes and struck fiercely, the next second two slashes shaped like a half moon landed on the hastily conjured White Bone of the Thorny Bone Snake, slicing it instantly.
The flame slashed onto the Thorny Bone Snake, and while its force was not as intense as the Thunder Annihilation Cannon, it still forced the Thorny Bone Snake to shift its position.
Behind, Char, who had been following from a distance and watching the fight, slightly shifted his gaze.
This must be Fierce Sword Firefly’s level 4 skill—the Fiery Flame Sword.
The Fiery Flame Sword is clearly an evolution of the True Red Thorn, hence it’s a persistent skill rather than a one-time skill.
As long as the skill’s duration continues, the flames wrapped around the blades will not vanish, continuously adding damage to Fierce Sword Firefly’s attacks.
