Chapter 86: Summoning 101

Chapter 86: Summoning 101

Sir Orlo explained further, "The Moon’s power is primarily composed of light and fire. In our situation, the fire from the Moon could burn through the barrier."

"You have two options: either beg the elders to summon the power of the Moon, or summon it yourself—which, in my opinion, is a nearly impossible task," he said, a gloomy shadow cast over his face.

No vampire could summon the power of the Moon unless they had prior interaction with an ancestor. The only exception was the Blood Moon child.

Well, that’s me. I’m the exception. How convenient!

The Blood Moon child had the ability to wield the Moon’s power, but since the power was too immense for living beings, they had to learn to control it well. Otherwise, it could jeopardize the world’s safety.

Uh... right. Control...

She couldn’t even manage her own power, let alone the Moon’s. Had she been doomed from the start?

"We don’t know where this era’s Blood Moon child is. We don’t even know if the Blood Moon child is a vampire. The last Blood Moon child was a werewolf. What if the current Blood Moon child is a human?" Sir Orlo mused aloud.

No, Sir Orlo. The Blood Moon child is definitely a vampire. She’s here. With you. No matter how much I don’t want to accept it, it seems that it’s my only chance to get out.

The way out had presented itself to her. The only thing left now was learning how to summon and control the power of the Moon.

Fidgeting, Riona asked, "How does the Blood Moon child summon the power of the Moon?"

"The Blood Moon child knows it by instinct," he said.

Riona bit her lower lip, screaming internally, ’No, she doesn’t!’ It was frustrating that she couldn’t voice her thoughts.

"What if she doesn’t know? What if she’s completely clueless and needs someone to explain it in the simplest terms possible?"

Sir Orlo shook his head, dismissing her concerns. "You don’t understand, Riona. The Blood Moon child just knows. That’s how it works."

No, Sir Orlo! You don’t understand. The Blood Moon child you expect so much from really doesn’t know how it works.

"Alright, let’s assume this magical child knows, but I don’t, and I’m curious. So, how does it work?" Riona insisted.

She had no other way to learn about this except from Sir Orlo. She doubted the books would explain how the Blood Moon child should wield her power. After all, the Blood Moon child could be dangerous if the wrong person inherited the title.

Sir Orlo sighed, suddenly looking tired as he shook his head and massaged his temple. "No one knows. No Blood Moon child ever recorded such a thing," he said.

Riona almost threw a fit of frustration. She took a deep breath to manage the storm of her emotions before saying, "What if—and this is purely theoretical, so don’t give me the ’Blood Moon child knows’ crap—"

She paused, looking straight at him to make sure he understood before proceeding, "—if this Blood Moon child were different from her predecessors and somehow didn’t possess this magical instinct, how would she know how to summon and control the power of the Moon?"

At this moment, Sir Orlo took her question seriously. He thought hard about it, placing his index finger on his chin—a signature gesture of contemplation.

She wondered if touching your chin actually helped the brain work or something.

"I can only think of the ancestors. The Blood Moon child could seek their guidance," he replied.

Crossing his arms, he continued, "Those with the power of the Moon are naturally close to the other realm, making it easier for them to interact with those who dwell on the other side, including our ancestors."

"Hello?" Riona spoke into the empty air. "Ancestor?"

She regretted not asking for his name. Perhaps he would appear if she called him by name. Would another ancestor show up instead?

Clearing her throat, she tried again, "Dear almighty ancestor...?"

The ancestor she had spoken to was frivolous and haughty. She thought that if she sweet-talked him, he might appear.

"Oh, ancestor, I am but a mere vampire seeking your wise guidance. Please enlighten me with your deep wisdom."

Nothing happened. Riona threw herself onto the sofa and exhaled. She scratched her eyebrow, wondering what else she could say to lure him out. Was he in trouble for what he had done to her?

"Are you also on an eternal time-out like me? We’re in the same boat, then," Riona said sarcastically, lifting both arms and letting them fall onto the sofa.

"What an insolent brat!"

Riona jolted upright. Her eyes brightened at the sound of that familiar voice. He came!

"You’re here!" she exclaimed.

She danced around, looking everywhere for the invisible ancestor, smiling gleefully. "Finally! I’ve been trying to reach out to you for hours, you know! Where have you been? Did you not hear me? Were you being scolded by the other ancestors?"

"Alright. I know you’re excited, but stop teasing me. Or else I’ll leave and never answer your call ever again," the ancestor threatened.

"Tch! I didn’t know you’d be this petty."

"Anyway, I have been monitoring you, so yeah, I know everything that has been going on with you. That includes your plan with your furry men."

Riona almost called him a creep when he readily admitted to monitoring her but restrained herself.

"Great! That makes things easier. Since you’ve been eavesdropping on my life, you know I’m trying to break this freaking shield, right? How do I do it?"

She continued, bombarding the ancestor with more questions without giving him a chance to answer.

He had to stop her. "Whoa, whoa. Slow down, young lady. That’s not how you ask for a favor."

"It’s urgent, and I don’t know when you’ll disappear on me again. It takes a lot of effort to summon you," Riona whined. "Besides, you want me to go to Wintertooth with that Alpha, right? Then help me!"

"Alright, alright. But before I help you, there’s something you need to know—"

Riona cut him off impatiently. "Yes, yes, we’ve established that! What is it?"

The ancestor sighed dramatically. "You’re going to need to—"
