Fangless: The Alpha's Vampire Mate
Chapter 195: Wintertooth’s Fiercest

Chapter 195: Wintertooth’s Fiercest

As soon as Barmin departed, the Zachs’s knights exchanged smug, knowing glances.

Ah yes, this was all part of the master plan—intimidate the vampire into submission. Sure, they’d initially hoped she’d just cave, but, well, minor setback!

Their leader Barmin ended up with a brilliant backup strategy—using children as leverage. Such a noble tactic! In the end, they’d achieved their goal, of course, never mind the methods.

Victory is victory.

Ah, alas—the grand moment of annihilation had finally arrived.

The knights couldn’t help but feel it was truly such a pity to wipe out these fellow werewolves. There was, after all, a certain camaraderie between fanged furballs.

With a collective, wistful sigh, they mourned that the Wintertooth pack had drawn the short straw by ending up with an Alpha tainted by the unfortunate Zacharia lineage.

If only these poor werewolves had fallen under the spell of a different Zach, they could be living their best werewolf lives right now! Thriving! Flourishing!

But nope. Time to put them down.

They charged confidently to the front line, ready to take on the enemy. But they’d overlooked something—something big and crucial: Wintertooth’s pack was no ordinary pack.

These werewolves were strong, even if they didn’t have much battle experience. And while they didn’t have a ton of top fighters, the ones they did have were not to be taken lightly.

On top of that, the Zachs’ mighty army was looking a bit... leaner.

Thanks to Riona’s little welcome party, half the troops were already out—she’d annihilated a quarter, and Barmin had whisked off another quarter to cover all bases (translation: he was absolutely terrified she might, uh, annihilate him too).

That plan was last-minute; once Barmin had seen Riona’s true strength, he realized he didn’t stand a chance if she decided to turn on him. So he took extra knights with him—just in case.

So when Zane actually held his ground and blocked the knights from marching further into Wintertooth territory, the Zachs’ cronies were—shockingly—caught off guard.

Meanwhile, there was the Big Hair Hero, who looked ready to explode, huffing like a steam engine and glaring like she thought she could just burn them alive by sheer willpower.

"What the hell are you doing?" Trudy shouted, enraged. "Riona just strolled off with your spineless boss, and you’re still here attacking us? She’s been letting you off easy because your General was too chicken to face her one-on-one!"

The knights, all gasping for air, exchanged looks. They hated to admit that the Wintertooth pack was actually holding its own.

But they couldn’t just stay quiet—standing there in silence would make them look weak, and heaven forbid anyone think they were anything less than total champions... even if they’d just been stopped cold by a pack of amateurs.

"She’s letting us off easy? You lot must be delusional," one knight sneered. "Do you even know who the strongest werewolves in the world are? The Zachs! We’ve been trained by them, and there’s no way some lowly vampire is ’letting us off easy.’ She lost. Obviously."

Not exactly the comeback of the century, but in his mind, better than silence. Still, he couldn’t leave it at that, so he threw in some bonus menace.

"Our plan all along has been to make sure Wintertooth is nothing but a memory. You’re going down with your home and your name. No one will even remember ’Wintertooth.’"

Charna had about zero patience for insults against her pack. She’d once led these wolves, and her loyalty ran deeper than any outsider could understand.

So instead of talking back, she sprang forward, claws first, scratching and punching any face she could find in the crowd of enemy knights.

Seeing her dive into action, the other werewolves charged in too, and the brawl exploded back to life. Only this time, the tide was shifting. Before Riona had shown up, the Zachs’ forces had taken the advantage, but now it was a whole different game.

Wintertooth’s best—Zane, Trudy, Charna, Morgan, even Vesper—joined the fray, not for some vampire’s sake but to protect their home and families.

Even the parents emerged from their huts, their fierce roars filling the air as they threw everything they had into defending the pack.

The pups dashed around, using their speed and size to create chaos, darting past the Zachs’ army with all the energy and attitude only tiny werewolves could muster.

The once-mighty knights were quickly realizing they were up against a full-pack defense... and they were no longer looking like the toughest werewolves in the area.

As the battle dragged on, Zachs’s soldiers started dropping like flies. The sea of matching uniforms grew thinner with every passing second.

They’d all given their best efforts, sure—but turns out, ’the best’ isn’t too impressive when you’re exhausted, outnumbered, and second-guessing every life choice that led you here.

Meanwhile, the Wintertooth defenders just kept going strong—apparently having something worth protecting does wonders for motivation.

The attackers? Not so much. They’d come in with big talk but didn’t exactly have the stick-it-out-when-things-get-bad spirit.

So, soon enough, some knights started slipping off Wintertooth territory entirely, slipping into the shadows and leaving behind an explosion of colorful curses from their comrades.

Prioritizing their own survival? Scandalous!

And scandalous it was, at least to Nina Zacharia, queen of the Zacharia clan and undisputed world champion of ’my way or the painful way.’

In Nina’s book, any werewolf lucky enough to be under her command should be more than willing to throw their life, dignity, and maybe a couple of limbs into the mix if it meant putting her interests first.

As for the deserters? They may have thought they’d saved their own skins, but little did they know that escaping the battlefield only meant a special meeting with Nina—a far worse fate than anything the Wintertooth pack could dream up.

With dwindling resources, the Zachs’s knights were inevitably losing, though a few diehards were still hanging on.

Others? Not so much. Some knights had resorted to the classic ’playing dead’ move, lying sprawled out because honestly, they were too exhausted to keep pretending they wanted to be there.

By now, most of them were seriously questioning their life choices. What had driven them to charge into this mess in the first place?

Some fleeting praise from Nina Zacharia? Was a pat on the back from their icy overlord really worth spilling their guts all over Wintertooth turf? Power? Wealth?

Please. All they’d gained so far was silence from their ever-grateful leader. Once they realized this, the fight drained right out of them. More knights began dramatically ’collapsing’ just to get a breather.

In the end, the Wintertooth pack stood victorious, having defended their home. They rounded up the surviving Zachs’s army and herded them into a single room for easy watching, taking shifts to keep an eye on the tired troops.

While Vesper and Morgan plotted what kind of punishment to serve to the captured knights, the Wintertooth crew had something else to worry about.

Trudy, of course, was the first to say it out loud. No hesitation whatsoever.

She glanced at the others, whose faces reflected mixed emotions, and voiced what everyone was thinking but hadn’t dared to suggest.

"We need to rescue Riona," she announced as if the legendary Blood Moon child could possibly need any rescuing at all.
