Chapter 159: The Wolf Who Loved Her
Chapter 159: The Wolf Who Loved Her
Thorin was deep in thought about an alternative plan: maybe he should just let everyone know that Riona was half werewolf.
After all, what better way to win the pack over than with a ’relative’ card? He figured it could help her fit in.
But then again, he hesitated. For one, Riona had no idea about her furry lineage. It felt a bit like giving her a surprise birthday gift—only instead of a cake, it was a family secret that could blow up in their faces.
And what if revealing her canine heritage made the pack even more hostile? Werewolves didn’t just embrace each other because they shared DNA.
They had a long history of fighting over territory and snacks—yes, snacks, because you never know when a meat feast might come in handy.
With her half-vampire status, the pack could figure out that she was Remus’s daughter, and things could get messy.
Thorin’s mind raced with scenarios: the Zacharias would hunt her down for sure. No, scratch that—everyone in the pack would be a danger. The last thing he wanted was to turn Riona into the pack’s next target practice.
Remus had run away to save his own skin; Thorin was pretty sure the guy didn’t flee just for the thrill of it. But would the pack understand that? Or would they just see Riona as the daughter of the traitor who dared to abandon his own kind?
If there was one thing he learned from being an Alpha, it was that werewolves had a talent for holding grudges. And this could end up being the grudge of the century.
The legendary traitor had not only abandoned his own kin but had also chosen a vampire as his life partner—the mother of his child.
His mother, Daciana, had eloped with a rogue, and while his father was a werewolf, Daciana spent her life on the run. No werewolf would take them in because of her flaw.
If a former Luna was treated like yesterday’s garbage, how do you think these werewolves would react to Riona, the infamous daughter of the traitor and a certified bloodsucker-lover?
Her reputation was already scraping the bottom of the barrel, especially after Florian’s latest disaster. It was clear that Thorin couldn’t keep them here any longer.
He faced a tough choice: his pack or Riona, and that was like choosing between a rock and a hard place—both painful, and neither looked good.
As Thorin racked his brain for solutions, a lightbulb flickered to life above his head.
What if he became the ultimate Alpha? The strongest of the strong! Free from the Zacharias! He’d be able to protect anyone he wanted, including Riona. The pack would have no choice but to fall in line.
He could figure out a way to keep Florian on a tight leash—maybe hire a witch to whip up some calming herbs or a potion to mellow him out.
"Hey, Riona, how about you be my Luna and bear my children?" he’d say with all the confidence of a wolf in a tuxedo.
This was his chance to prove himself as a worthy Alpha, and maybe, just maybe, save the day. It was a heroic fantasy wrapped in fur, and he was ready to embrace it.
People always said that the first step was the hardest. Well, congratulations, people—if only they knew how right they were!
Thorin’s first step on the path to becoming the ultimate Alpha was to earn the blessing of the Blood Moon child. Simple enough, right? This was the trickiest part, but he only got to go through this.
So here he was, fumbling his way through a confession that felt more like an awkward teenage crush than a noble quest.
"It’s not that," he said. "What if there’s a way for you to stay? What if there’s a way for me to protect you?"
"But your pack members hate me and my brother. We can’t be here anymore," she replied, her voice quivering. He’d never seen her this emotional unless it was about Florian.
Without thinking, he grabbed Riona’s hand. "They’ll have to listen to me. If I say you’re staying, then you’re staying! No ifs, ands, or buts! Besides, you’ve already proved yourself to them."
He took a deep breath. "Trudy told me about the wonderful things you’ve done for the pack. Not to mention the training! Hoof! The training was marvelous!"
"Is there a way?" Riona’s blue eyes widened, sparkling with hope.
"Yes," Thorin replied, then quickly added, "I think."
He launched into an explanation about knowing Riona’s identity as the Blood Moon child. She didn’t seem surprised, probably because she figured that was why even the elders had tried to off her.
"Before I even set foot in the Kingdom of Eira, I was already aware there was a Blood Moon child hiding out in the palace. A girl with royal blood—the real heir to the kingdom," he continued.
Thorin then shared how he uncovered it: a witch had sold it to him for a hefty price. "And trust me, I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one shelling out gold for that information."
As he detailed the main prophecy about the ultimate Alpha, Riona’s bright eyes suddenly dulled. It was like a gray cloud had rolled in.
"So that’s why you came on to me so hard," she said. "I’ve always wondered why you picked me out of all the available options. Huh! Now I know. Lucky me!"
"What?" Thorin grabbed her wrist a little too tightly, but as soon as he realized, he loosened his grip, gently pulling her closer to face him.
"It’s not what you think! Okay, yes, I did approach you with some questionable motives at first. That’s true. But everything that happened after? That’s all real. We’re real."
"Yeah, sure. You don’t have to sugarcoat it for me," Riona replied, her voice flat.
"I’m not sugarcoating anything!" Thorin shot back. "Do you know why you suddenly got a handle on your power when we escaped the palace? In that room where the vampire king trapped you?"
Riona stayed silent, narrowing her eyes but giving nothing away.
Thorin took a deep breath, steadying himself. "For the Blood Moon power to transfer, there has to be love. Real love. That’s why you could control it. Because I gave you mine. My power. My... love."
His breath was shaky now as he met her gaze, his heart pounding. They locked eyes for what felt like forever, and in typical Thorin fashion, he couldn’t hold it in any longer.
"Because I love you," he said, voice low and sincere.
And then, without waiting for a response, Thorin leaned in and pressed his lips to hers, sealing his confession with a kiss.
