Fangless: The Alpha's Vampire Mate -
Chapter 124: The Fanged Awakening
Chapter 124: The Fanged Awakening
"Ha! Did you really think it was all your doing?" The voice slid back into Florian’s mind, this time colder, more threatening. "That was my power. I let you taste it. How did it feel?"
Florian remained silent, fear choking tight in his chest. He had never craved power, not once in his long life. All he had ever wanted was a quiet life with his sister somewhere no one knew them, far away from any of this madness.
"You can have it all," the voice taunted, dripping with temptation. "Just say the word."
It sounded so sweet, and Florian could feel the pull. Part of him—against all common sense—wanted to give in. He knew how it felt now: the sharpness of fangs, the lightness in his limbs, the intoxicating strength coursing through him.
How was he supposed to pretend he didn’t know what that felt like? Not that it mattered. Once you’re in, there’s no getting out of it.
While Florian wrestled with the sinister voice inside his mind, Charna slipped from the hut. She wasted no time and barged into Thorin’s office without a second thought.
"Thorin! He’s awake!" Charna shouted, completely ignoring any sense of decorum or the concept of knocking.
"What? Who?" Thorin stopped mid-motion. His full attention was now on her.
Charna swallowed hard and launched into her completely reliable version of events. "I was patrolling," she said, which was, of course, a lie.
In reality, Charna had been on her way to fetch Thorin to join the bonfire with the rest of the pack. But as memories of their recent encounters resurfaced in her mind, she hesitated, taking a more roundabout route.
It was too embarrassing to admit her true intentions, so she bent the truth slightly. After all, no harm done, right?
"I passed by the young vampire’s room and heard strange noises. He’s supposed to be in a coma or something, right? I got worried, so I checked in." This part, at least, was true.
She wiped a bead of sweat from her brow, her gaze darting nervously. Never before had she seen a vampire like that—fangs bared, bloodied. It stirred a strange mix of emotions in her, ones she couldn’t quite untangle.
"His mouth was smeared with blood," she went on, her voice quieter now. "It looked like he drained several blood bags at once. They were scattered around him... empty."
"Alright, let’s hear the details while we walk," Thorin said, rising from his seat.
He hurried out of his office, heading swiftly towards Florian’s hut. As his brain caught up with Charna’s frantic updates, he needed to clarify the situation.
"So, Florian’s actually awake?" he asked.
"Yes," Charna panted, trying to match Thorin’s hurried pace. "He was all confused and delirious. He asked me where he was, but I was too flustered to give him a straight answer."
Thorin suddenly stopped and turned to Charna with a look of disbelief. "Hold on. He spoke? You mean he actually said something?"
"Uh, yeah," Charna said, coming to a stop as well.
"Are you positive? Did you really hear him? It wasn’t just someone else’s voice sneaking in?" Thorin pressed, raising his eyebrow.
Charna looked puzzled and shrugged. "Of course it was him. There was no one else there but us. Who else could it have been? Besides, I saw his lips moving. It was definitely him."
Upon arrival, Thorin immediately took Florian’s face in his hands, his eyes scanning for any signs of distress. Florian’s fangs, now retracted, indicated he was no longer hungry or scared.
It appeared that the young vampire still hadn’t figured out how to properly use his fangs.
Thorin pulled Florian into a tight hug and used his thumb to gently wipe away the blood smeared around the boy’s mouth.
With a fatherly grin, he said, "You must have been starving. Any idea how long you’ve been out?"
Florian shook his head.
"Two months," Thorin announced as if revealing the latest gossip. "You’ve been unconscious for that long. And your sister has been glued to your side the whole time."
He guided Florian back to bed, where Thorin noticed the kid had grown a few inches during his beauty sleep. Since he’d been lying in bed so long through a growth spurt, Thorin hadn’t even noticed.
It was a bit mesmerizing but left Thorin scratching his head. He wasn’t exactly an expert on vampire growth spurts, so he couldn’t say if this was standard or if Florian was just going through a particularly bizarre superpower nap.
Either way, it seemed like Florian had decided to come back with a side of extra height.
"I’m really glad you’re back," Thorin said. Above all else, he was simply relieved that Florian had finally regained consciousness.
"You must have a lot of questions," Thorin continued. "Let’s take it slow and go through everything, alright?"
As Thorin launched into a detailed account of the palace drama—stories that Charna was hearing for the first time—she busied herself with tidying up.
She picked up the scattered blood bags from the floor and stacked them neatly in the corner before tossing the empty ones into the trash bin.
Noticing how the conversation was turning serious and how Florian’s eyes kept darting nervously in her direction, Charna decided it was time for her to step back.
She quietly left the room, giving them the space they needed for a more private discussion.
Florian’s shoulders finally relaxed once Charna was out of the room. Thorin seized the moment to clear up a few things.
"She’s the Chief of Wintertooth," Thorin said, trying to sound as reassuring as possible. "She takes care of the pack, and, well, now you’re one of us."
After Thorin finished the full rundown of how they got here, where ’here’ was, and why they were here, Florian finally spoke up. "Where is my sister?"
"Whoa! You actually talked!" Thorin’s eyes widened as if Florian had just performed a magic trick. "I mean, how? How did you even—"
His jaw dropped, and for a moment, the mighty Alpha seemed to forget how to Alpha, looking more like a starstruck fanboy.
Florian shrugged and muttered, "I don’t know."
"What do you mean you don’t know? Aha! So you’re starting with the lies already. Aren’t you enjoying my power a little too much?" the dark voice sneered, intruding into Florian’s mind.
The young vampire shook his head violently, gritting his teeth.
Get out of my head! he mentally screamed, his fists involuntarily tightening as if they could squeeze out the intrusive voice.
The voice mocked him with malicious glee. "You think you can just discard me? I can always take my power back, you know. And then you’ll be left as your pathetic old self."
Stop! Go away! Florian desperately fought against the voice, but it lingered.
"Flo? Are you alright?" Thorin’s voice came through, but it sounded like it was coming from another dimension, overpowered by the dark presence in Florian’s head.
When Thorin reached out to him, Florian bolted upright and shouted, "STOP!"
In an instant, Florian realized that his scream was not just in his head but had actually escaped his lips. Thorin stared at him, completely bewildered.
