Fangless: The Alpha's Vampire Mate -
Chapter 106: The Fan Club
Chapter 106: The Fan Club
Trudy, a female werewolf with massive curly hair, said nonchalantly, "You should really quit it. It’s not funny."
The rest of the pack, minus Charna, gave her the kind of look usually reserved for traitors and people who steal the last slice of meat. "What’s this? You sticking up for her now?"
She had only spoken two sentences, yet the whole group already saw her as an enemy. That was the downside of communal living: they expected everyone to share the same thoughts.
But Trudy, bless her, had this annoying habit of thinking for herself. She figured trash-talking someone when they weren’t around was about as brave as a squirrel in a thunderstorm.
"So, how exactly are you any better than those two-faced vampires you’re always whining about? You love to say they badmouth you behind your backs, but what are you doing right now? The exact same thing."
Werewolves were outspoken and usually appreciated unfiltered honesty—when it aligned with their views.
Trudy’s honesty didn’t, and it left a bitter taste in the other werewolves’ mouths. "What, are you her bestie or something?"
Werewolves feared nothing, and Trudy was no exception. She had her principles, and she wasn’t about to back down.
"Do I need to be someone’s friend to tell right from wrong? We’re not pups, so why are you acting like one? Don’t you have any shame? If you’ve got something to say, say it to her face, not behind her back!" Trudy snapped.
She stood up, giving them all a death glare. "Don’t go around calling yourselves werewolves if you don’t have the guts to back it up. Honestly, it’s embarrassing to share a species with you."
The others wanted to fire back, but they were too stunned to think of a good comeback. They stood there, staring blankly, as Trudy walked off, her curly hair bouncing with each step.
Even after she disappeared, they still couldn’t make out a single coherent insult.
"She’s lost it," one werewolf muttered, at a loss for anything better to say.
"Let’s teach her a lesson," Vesper, an ill-tempered male werewolf, said, puffing out his chest, trying to regain some shred of dignity.
Charna was closest to Vesper; they’d been childhood friends, and their parents had been friends since forever. She placed a hand firmly on his chest.
"Let it go, Vesper!"
"But, Char—"
One sharp look from her, and his mouth snapped shut. Everyone in the pack knew he was head over paws for her, and let’s be real—there was no way she hadn’t noticed. Vesper wasn’t exactly being subtle.
"Trudy’s one of us. Internal conflicts like this are exactly what the Zachs want. They are watching, just waiting for us to tear ourselves apart so they can finish Thorin off."
Oh, and speaking of Thorin—everyone also knew where Charna’s heart really was. She’d volunteered to oversee the pack while he was away, hoping to earn some favor.
With Thorin being the full package—strong, handsome, and highly eligible—the Luna spot was a hot commodity.
But Charna wasn’t shy about staking her claim, so the other girls took a polite step back and let her have the spotlight.
After all, Charna was practically Wintertooth royalty. Everyone just knew she was destined to be queen—strong, kind, and all the other qualities that make werewolves retract their teeth with envy.
Her diplomacy could smooth Thorin’s rough edges, and together, their pups would be on a whole new level of gorgeous.
"It’s always about Thorin with you, isn’t it?" Vesper pouted. He wasn’t blind to reality, but he didn’t need it shoved in his face, not even by Charna.
Frustrated, Vesper stormed off.
"Thorin’s back now. Aren’t you being a little too paranoid about the Zachs, Char? Thorin’s their family. What’s the worst that could happen?" one werewolf commented casually.
Charna shot her a glare. She’d been the one on the receiving end of those thinly veiled threats. She had seen firsthand how the Zachs tried to control Wintertooth.
Being family only made it worse for Thorin. The Zachs were notorious for obsessing over their reputation—and anyone who shared their blood.
Thorin probably got that particular self-consciousness straight from the family tree.
"The Zachs are no ordinary family. They have their own rules, and everyone is expected to follow them," Charna said quietly, stressing the gravity of her words.
At first, Charna had shared the same dismissive attitude toward the Zacharias’ influence over Thorin and Wintertooth as many others in the pack. If she hadn’t been temporarily leading Wintertooth, she might have remained unaware of their true power.
Turns out, the Zacharias were sending Thorin an endless stream of ’suggestions’—also known as demands—and keeping a sneaky eye on the pack.
Judging by the content of their letters, it was clear that Thorin had no idea just how deeply the Zachs were involved.
It was clear to Charna that the Zachs had discovered Thorin’s departure to form an alliance with the vampires.
What had happened after that remained a mystery, and she hadn’t had the chance to ask Thorin about it. He had been overwhelmed with managing the new residents and finishing up old tasks.
Since this was a personal matter, Charna doubted she could bring it up in front of the other pack members.
Sp, she was determined to find time for them to be alone so she could bring up this topic, ideally without the entire pack eavesdropping. She wanted to ask about his relationship with the vampire.
Why did he bring those vampires here? What had happened that it came to this? Was the engagement real? Did he have feelings for her?
In her head, she played out the scenario where she’d waltz into Thorin’s room with a charming selection of fruit and ale for afternoon snacks.
Thorin would look up from his desk, smiling like a lovesick fool and setting aside his work to welcome her with open arms.
Before she could even say a word, Thorin would dramatically rise, pull her into a heartfelt embrace, and confess, "Please understand, I didn’t plan any of this. It just sort of happened. She’s this tragic damsel, and I had to rescue her. I couldn’t just leave a poor girl alone among those pale, brooding vampires."
Then, in a shocking twist of romance, he’d admit his undying love for Charna, and they’d both acknowledge that they were each other’s soulmates.
Thorin would reveal that he’d been hiding his feelings because he wasn’t quite ready for a lifetime commitment.
"But now, it’s as clear as a full moon—you’re my Luna. I always knew it," he’d declare dramatically, just as he would in real life.
Just as Charna’s daydream was reaching peak melodrama, her fantasy was shattered by a familiar voice.
"Char! Charna!!"
She blinked several times, trying to shake off the lingering fantasy. Was that really Thorin, or was she still lost in her hallucination?
