Chapter 578 - Chapter 578 【578】On-site diagnosis
Chapter 578: [(578)] On-site diagnosis Chapter 578: [(578)] On-site diagnosis The task of extricating the injured was left to the professionals. Ren Chongda came back to check on how the students had handled the situation.
“What’s the situation?”
Upon hearing the instructor’s voice, Xie Wanying quickly responded, “The woman is conscious. The child is not fully conscious.”
After determining that the injured person had a pulse and was breathing, consciousness was another very important indicator.
The female casualty was about twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, with scratches on her face and blood coming from her nose, but these were not the main issues.
Xie Wanying’s hand pulled open the woman’s clothing, revealing a clear bruise on the left side of her abdomen. A gentle press elicited a cry of pain from the victim.
The spleen was ruptured, and it was not ruled out that other internal organs were also damaged.
Further unfastening the patient’s clothing revealed her chest to observe any abnormalities in her breathing. Without a stethoscope, they could only press an ear to the patient’s chest and listen carefully for heart sounds.
Ren Chongda patted the woman’s face and said, “Stay awake, don’t fall asleep. We’ll get you to a hospital soon.”
“My son Dongzi, my sister, and my younger sister–” the woman used what little strength she had to speak to the people outside.
It was clear that this was a family that had met with a car accident during their trip.
The dead woman was this person’s younger sister. The person still trapped in the driver’s cabin was her older sister. Another male child was her son.
“We know, we are trying to find a way to rescue them,” Ren Chongda could only comfort the victim at this time, lest she found out that one of her relatives was already dead and went into cardiac arrest.
“The chest cavity seems to be alright for now,” Xie Wanying concluded after the examination and told the instructor.
They had the injured woman lie flat; the most important thing for her now was to be hydrated. Both of them then looked towards the child Dongzi.
The boy who was not fully conscious had undoubtedly suffered a head injury.
Xie Wanying had previously used the mini flashlight she carried with her to examine the boy’s pupils and told the instructor, “The right pupil is constricted, 1.5, and has a sluggish reaction to light. The sizes of the pupils are not equal. It’s likely high pressure inside the right side of the skull, quickly turning into an acute brain herniation.”
They needed an ambulance to arrive urgently and take him to the hospital. With the child’s condition like this, if he did not receive surgery within two hours, he might die.
There was no sign of an ambulance arriving. Ren Chongda surveyed the surroundings and suddenly noticed something out of the ordinary, asking the taxi driver, “Where are we?”
They had taken a cab back to the school, and he had never seen this road used when coming from or going to the airport before.
“I mentioned to you when you got in the car, doctor, that the direct route back to the city center is under construction. After getting your approval, we took the detour around the city,” the taxi driver said.
Ren Chongda had been engrossed in conversation with the students when they got in and probably hadn’t paid attention to what the driver said, so he accepted this explanation.
This was a suburban area; ambulances from the city would not arrive so quickly. Unlike fire trucks or police cars, ambulances have a hard time dispatching vehicles from emergency centers to distant suburban areas where there are no large hospitals.
“Doctor, there’s a clinic building over there,” a bystander noticed the urgency on the doctor’s face and pointed to a small two-story building not far on the left side of the highway.
Ren Chongda and Xie Wanying stood up and looked in the direction they were pointing, seeing a red sign hanging there which read “XX Hospital Outpatient Building.” It was likely an outpatient facility opened by some hospital in the suburbs for the convenience of the local residents.
“Take them there,” Ren Chongda decided, waiting for the ambulance might mean the victims would die, they had to perform some emergency measures on the victim, even if it was just administering fluids.
