Chapter 486 - Chapter 486 【486】Patients identities are variously complicated
Chapter 486: [(486)] Patients’ identities are variously complicated Chapter 486: [(486)] Patients’ identities are variously complicated “I don’t think we should give her sleeping pills. She has a slight pain in her abdomen now. If the pain suddenly becomes severe, sleeping pills won’t be appropriate,” Xie Wanying said.
“Does she have abdominal pain? Is she a tumor patient?”
“Yes, a tumor, colorectal cancer.”
“Is it an intestinal obstruction?”
“No, not yet,” Xie Wanying said.
“Can’t we give her painkillers?” Sun Yubo thought again.
“Teacher Sun.” Xie Wanying nodded to the teacher’s words, “We can’t give her painkillers. If the tumor suddenly bleeds or there is an intestinal obstruction, it’s not right to give the patient painkillers.”
Sun Yubo felt a chill in his heart: what the student said alarmed him. He did not want such a scene to occur tonight.
“Student Xiao Xie. Let me tell you,” Sun Yubo said in a low voice, resting a hand on her shoulder, “Don’t just talk about the bad things tonight. We need to pray that things turn out well, you know? I understand that you like to be realistic, but tonight is special, and we only have three people on duty. If something happens, it won’t be quick to get support from others.”
The teacher’s words made sense. If the patients all had emergencies, the night staff would be overwhelmed.
“Teacher, the patients in the following beds–”
“Let’s talk while walking.” Sun Yubo led her to check on the problem with two drainage tubes, to see if they could figure out something to get through the night.
Li Qi’an followed behind them.
“The female patient in bed 38 is twenty years old and was just admitted at five o’clock today. She was given an injection of metoclopramide upon arrival. It seems she is an acquaintance of our department’s doctor.”
Admitted just before the five o’clock shift change to secure a bed–it was clear they wanted to avoid the bed being taken by emergency patients later on. Because the department has a policy against saving beds for patients, fearing that they can’t accommodate urgent admissions at night.
“Was she brought in for a checkup?” Sun Yubo asked.
“That seems to be the case. She reported having gastroenteritis,” Xie Wanying nodded.
“If you have gastroenteritis, why not go to internal medicine for a gastroscopy or colonoscopy? What are you doing in our surgery department?” Sun Yubo frowned, finding it most frustrating when acquaintances did this sort of bed holding.
“Maybe they will arrange a consultation with internal medicine later on.”
Sun Yubo glanced at this student: you’re pretty smart, guessing how these things are managed.
They headed to bed 36 and incidentally saw the patient in bed 38. When Li Qi’an glanced at her, it was as if he’d discovered a new continent, “I know who she is.”
“Who?” Sun Yubo turned to ask him.
“The campus beauty from Foreign Languages University. Isn’t her name Li Yaxi?”
Upon hearing what the youngster said, Sun Yubo pushed him on the back, “You’re a doctor, and you’re concerned with whether she’s a campus beauty?!”
Li Qi’an adjusted his askew glasses and nearly frowned at Teacher Sun. It wasn’t that he was infatuated with the campus beauty–rather, he just remembered this piece of gossip and wanted to report it, lest the teacher say he had withheld information.
It seems the patients tonight were quite complicated. Sun Yubo sighed again and asked Xie Wanying, “Continue.”
“Teacher Sun, bed 49 is empty. I asked the nurse and the patient in the next bed. They said that patient has an arrangement with the doctor to come back to the hospital tonight, around eleven o’clock. The patient is quite busy with work and needs to deal with business matters before coming,” Xie Wanying reported.
Here was another case of bed holding, and more problematic than bed 38. Bed 38 just had a campus beauty. Bed 49, by the sound of it, was suspected to be some high-ranking company executive. Only such patients would dare to ask to come to the hospital later and have the doctor agree. It’s important to note that the ward is not open at night.
