Chapter 85: Blue eyes
Chapter 85: Blue eyes
That took longer than I expected. The tip about certain people hiring assassins in the back alleys turned out to be true, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle. I guess the Robbens issue has people scared—so scared they’ve forgotten they should fear me. Honestly, I don’t know why they bother. I suppose even the weakest creatures bite back when cornered.
I need a bath. And Noelle.
As I make my way up to our floor, I’m immediately hit with the unmistakable pull of Noelle’s pheromones. They’re thick in the air, unsettlingly anxious, like a storm waiting to break. His anxiety seeps into me, twisting my gut with a sense of unease.
Doris is waiting outside our door, her posture as rigid as ever. I wave her off for the night, and she leaves without a word. I open the massive doors and step inside, greeted by the weight of Noelle’s scent. It’s heavier here, almost suffocating. Something is wrong.
I close the doors behind me, scanning the room until my eyes land on him. Noelle stands there, arms folded, his robe wrapped tightly around him. His green eyes lock onto me, anger simmering beneath the surface. The moment our eyes meet, I know I’m in trouble.
What did I do?
"My beloved star," I say softly, taking a cautious step toward him. But the moment the words leave my mouth, his eyes flash, and he cuts me off.
"Don’t." His voice is sharp, cold. "Go and take a bath. You reek of blood."
I flinch at the harshness of his words. It’s never bothered him before. Hell, I’ve kissed him with blood on my hands and he didn’t bat an eye.
I could argue, try to talk my way out of it. But something tells me this isn’t the time. I’m not in the mood to push my luck or risk sleeping on the floor tonight.
"Okay," I respond quietly, already heading toward the bath.

I feel a weight lift off my shoulders as I leave the bath, the warm water having washed my body. Wrapped in a fresh robe, I head back into the bedroom, feeling refreshed but also a little nervous. Noelle’s still on the bed, seated at the edge, slowly brushing his hair. He’s in a robe too, the soft fabric slipping down one of his shoulders, revealing the smooth skin underneath. But despite how peaceful he looks, something feels off.
I walk over to him and sit next to him silently, watching the slow, almost hypnotic strokes of his brush. He doesn’t acknowledge me, his green eyes fixed on something only he can see, lost in thought. I can see a storm of emotions churning beneath the surface, and it puts me on edge.
The silence stretches between us, heavy and uncomfortable, and finally, I can’t take it anymore. I have no idea what I did wrong, but I know I need to fix it.
"I don’t know what I did, but I’m sorry," I say softly, keeping my tone gentle.
Noelle’s head snaps toward me, his gaze sharp, but then his expression softens, though he tries to hide it behind a scowl.
"Argh, I hate you so much," he says, glaring at me, his lips forming that cute pout that never fails to make me melt. "You can’t even let me be angry for five minutes!"
I blink at him, confused. Hate me? What? I must look completely lost, because he rolls his eyes, clearly annoyed but not as mad as I feared.
"You look at me with those intense blue eyes," he mutters, sounding both frustrated and fond, "and I lose all my resolve."
A slow grin spreads across my face. There it is—that’s the Noelle I know. But before I can make a move, he slaps his palm over my mouth, stopping me in my tracks.
"I’m still mad at you," he declares, his tone serious even though his eyes are twinkling. I try my best to look offended, but judging by the way his lips twitch, I’m failing miserably.
His green eyes glimmer with mischief, and then, as if struck by a sudden idea, he stands up abruptly. The robe shifts around him, the loose fabric swaying as he moves, and I find myself watching him, totally captivated.
He turns and looks down at me with a playful smile, arms crossed over his chest. "Don’t think you’re off the hook yet, Thorne. You’ve got some making up to do."
I can’t help but chuckle, shaking my head as I look up at him, feeling a warm affection blooming in my chest. "Whatever you say, my beloved star. Just tell me what you need, and it’s yours."
Noelle’s frown deepens, but there’s no real anger behind it. "You’re impossible," he says, trying to sound stern, but I can see the corners of his mouth lifting. He takes a step toward me, the loose tie of his robe slipping a bit
A slow smirk spreads across my face at his words. I can’t help it—knowing I can disarm him that easily is a powerful feeling. But before I can lean in for a kiss, he stops me, placing his palm firmly over my lips.
"I’m still mad at you," he says, his eyes narrowing in mock seriousness. I look at him, trying my best to look aggrieved, but it doesn’t seem to work.
His eyes sparkle suddenly, as if he’s thought of something, and he stands up abruptly, leaving me sitting there in confusion. What is he planning now?
I watch as Noelle suddenly jumps off the bed, his robe fluttering around him as he darts toward the dresser. His movements are quick, purposeful, and a bit too energetic for this time of night. I tilt my head, curiosity piqued as I stay seated on the bed, my eyes tracking his every move.
"What are you up to now?" I ask, amusement lacing my voice, but Noelle doesn’t answer right away. He’s too busy rummaging through the drawers, muttering something under his breath as he searches for... whatever it is he’s looking for.
I lean back, propping myself up on my elbows, a smile tugging at my lips as I watch him. His robe slips down further off his shoulder, exposing more skin, and for a moment, I’m distracted by the sight. But then he finds what he’s been searching for and turns around, holding something behind his back.
Now, I’m really intrigued.
"Alright, what is it?" I ask, raising an eyebrow as I sit up fully.
Noelle gives me a sly grin, his green eyes twinkling with mischief. "You’ll see."
I can’t help but chuckle. Whatever he’s planning, it’s going to be interesting.
