Chapter 319: Chapter 318: Qiao Minde is bleeding
Qiao Minde was a good swimmer but because of the impact, he was knocked unconscious. His head hit the water hard when he wasn’t prepared.
SPLOSH!
Before the darkness enveloped him, he saw a familiar face reaching out to him, a hand outstretched.
"Mom," he whispered. Qiao Minde sunk to the bottom of the river, and his eyes shut.
The next moment, something splashed in the river, moving towards Qiao Minde. The person wrapped an arm around him and dragged him to shore.
"Hey! Hey!" Someone called him and shook his body.
"Wake up!"
"Oh my god! He’s bleeding! Look, blood!"
"We need to take him to the hospital!"
The next moment Qiao Minde woke up, he was in the hospital. The steady beep by his side brought him back to his senses.
Qiao Minde groaned, a splitting headache cut through him. The door opened and a man dressed in white lab coat with a young man walked in.
"Here’s the report. Apart from a slight concussion and a rather deep cut on his arm caused by the rocks under water, he’s fine. He can be discharged but he must pay attention to his health," the doctor handed the report to the young man.
Later at the counter, the young nurse prescribed them some medicine. Her eyes lingered on Qiao Minde before moving to the young man beside him.
"May I know who will pay the hospital bills?" The nurse asked, looking at Qiao Minde and at the young man.
Qiao Minde looked around the hospital.
This hospital was different from the one in Shengjing and the other cities he had been to.
The young man scratched his head. "Uh..." He cast a glance at Qiao Minde.
"I’ll pay for it," he said reluctantly. He forked out his own money and gave it to the nurse.
Qiao Minde strode out of the hospital seemingly in a hurry.
"Hey! Wait up!" The young man thanked the nurse and ran after Qiao Minde.
When Qiao Minde finally walked out of the hospital, his eyes were greeted by a new environment. Chickens and ducks ran passed him, aunties and uncles were selling vegetables, fishermen were in their boats, some women were practicing tribal dancing.
Qiao Minde stopped and took in his surroundings. This wasn’t Shengjing.
The young man caught up with him, hands on his knees. "I finally caught up! Hey, you... Do you have your parents’ number?"
Qiao Minde turned to look at the young man. The young man suddenly became nervous and gulped under his intense dark stare.
"Y-you know, to go home? You have been in the hospital for a day and night. I’m sure your parents must be worried about you," the young man stammered.
"Where is this?" Qiao Minde ignored his question.
"This," the young man spread out his arms. "Welcome to Changzhou!"
The young man had a proud look as he mentioned his home town. His silly black hair reached up to his neck, his skin was fair and smooth, like someone who doesn’t do chores.
"Changzhou?" Qiao Minde remembered that Changzhou was situated somewhere near Shengjing. The water must have carried him all the way here.
"Yep! Hey, I’ve already paid your hospital bills. You don’t have to pay me back even though it’s very expensive. But you need to at least tell me where to send you home, okay? It’s getting dark and I’m sure you don’t want to sleep on the road, right?" The young man talked a lot.
"Is there an airport nearby?" Qiao Minde asked emotionless.
"Oh my dear big brother, where can we find an airport in a little town like this?!" The young man threw his hands up.
Suddenly thunder and lightning strike across the sky. Raindrops began to pour over the place, hitting their heads.
"Oh, it’s raining! I can’t leave you out here. Come with me!"
In the end, the young man had to take Qiao Minde in. He brought him to his house, a traditional Chinese house with a courtyard.
His parents were surprised to see a stranger at their doorsteps.
"Little Fish, who is this?" His mother scanned Qiao Minde from head to toe. This guy was dressed differently from them, in an expensive looking red suit that looked like it costs thousands.
"Um... Someone I saved from the river. Let him stay the night, it seems like he has no house or money," The young man said.
"Okay! Come in!" The parents were very hospitable. They cooked Qiao Minde delicious foods and urged him to eat.
The father made Qiao Minde drink his herbal tea. "This herbal tea helps to dispel the cold. You must drink it!"
Qiao Minde accepted the it and did as the parents said. Even though he was reluctant, he comply with them. They wouldn’t poison him, they don’t know who he was.
At night, there was no space left in their tiny house so Qiao Minde had to share a bed with the young man. Even though they had a large courtyard, it was mainly used for rearing chickens and livestock. Qiao Minde could see that the family of three was poor.
"Who was it who pulled me out of the river?" Qiao Minde asked, his voice was cold and aloof.
"It’s me! Me and my friend, Dong Yu!" He said happily, pushing a stray hair behind his ear.
"We were chatting by the river when I spotted something in it. It turns out to be you! Your arm was bleeding so I randomly bandaged it before sending you to the hospital! I bandaged very good, right?" The young man’s eyes seemed to glisten in the dark.
The moonlight poured in from the window. Qiao Minde sat on one end of the bed while the young man was on the other end. The young man looked at Qiao Minde whose face was shrouded in the dark, with only his lips showing in the light.
Qiao Minde turned to look at him, a sharp and cold piercing gaze. The young man wanted to turn away but he couldn’t help but stare into those dark eyes.
"What’s your name?" Qiao Minde’s voice was low and dangerous.
