Qiao Nian almost lost her balance but Qiao Minde was quick to grab hold of her. However, Qiao Nian struggled and tried to push him away but Qiao Minde pulled her closer, rubbing the back of her head, whispering something to her.

He wrapped his arms around her tightly. Qiao Nian gave up trying to push him away and cried into his chest.

Unable to control her tears anymore, she burst out in sobs, staining his red suit.

"Brother! Why did he say those things?! Why?!" Qiao Nian sobbed bitterly, her voice shaky.

Qiao Minde knew the reason yet he couldn’t say it. Instead he patted her back and comforted her silently. But it did no use to stop her tears.

"He said, he is t....tired of me, that he doesn’t want me anymore! He....h....he.... has another girl!" The heartwrenching cries stabbed Qiao Minde’s heart.

Qiao Minde didn’t know how to comfort a girl. He was at lost for words.

"Even if he doesn’t want you, I will want you. Brother will dote on you for the rest of your life, okay?" His voice was sincere yet icy as always.

Pulan and ShenJi heard him loud and clear saying those words for the first time in their lives. They were both equally stunned and exchanged glances.

"Let’s go home," he urged her gently. "I’ll..... I’ll take care of you, okay?"

Qiao Nian nodded, choking on sobs. Qiao Minde led her to the railings, helping her to cross it. He was very cautious and careful.

Not far from them amongst the crowd, Qiao Tong happened to saw this scene. A malicious smile crept onto her face. She turned and looked at a car that was parked not far from her.

Vroom!

The sound of an engine caught Qiao Minde’s attention. From the corner of his eyes, he saw a vehicle approaching towards them at a fast pace.

The next second, the car smashed into the railings in their direction. Qiao Minde quickly lifted and pushed Qiao Nian over the railings in a flash. But he didn’t had time to save himself. On that flash second, the car hit him with a loud sound, sending him falling backwards into the water!!!

The car plunged into the water after him, sending a huge splash.

"Brother!" Qiao Nian landed on the other side of the railings and screamed. Her eyes widened as she helplessly watched him fell into the water.

She screamed and tried to run to the edge but Qiao ShenJi held her back. Everyone was in shock!

"Let go of me! Let go of me! Brother!" She cried hysterically.

But Qiao ShenJi only tightened his grip on her arms and pulled her back.

Everything happened too fast. Pulan didn’t get to reach the railings in time. When she reached near the edge, all she saw was Qiao Minde crashing into the water before he was swallowed up by it.

"No!!!" Qiao Nian wailed and tried to reach for her brother, pushing Qiao ShenJi away. She ran to the edge of the railings. However, Qiao ShenJi regained his footing. He was faster than her so he reached the railings first and held her arms back in his strong grip.

"Ah Nian! Please stop! Don’t worry! We’ll save him," Pulan rubbed her tears away and comforted her younger sister.

Qiao ShenJi released his grip on Qiao Nian, letting the two half sisters face each other.

"Please save him! Please save brother! Please!" Qiao Nian hugged Pulan tightly and sobbed.

"We’ll definitely save him. Don’t cry, Ah Nian," Pulan comforted her and pushed a stray curly hair away from her eyes.

Soon the police and ambulance arrived. Their sirens wailed loudly and people quickly stepped aside to let them through. The police quickly started to run a search and rescue mission.

Pulan looked at the direction in which that car had came from. Thinking about it, it seems impossible for the car to accidentally hit them. The bridge wasn’t sloping, all vehicles were going straight. Unless someone turned the steering wheel to the left where Qiao Nian and Qiao Minde were, then it was possible.

Qiao ShenJi exchanged glances with Pulan. Immediately he understood what she was thinking. This wasn’t an accident. But they couldn’t jump to conclusions yet.

Qiao Tong had fled the scene as fast as she could, wearing a black mask over her face to hide herself. No one saw her as she mingled among the crowd.

Many minutes later, the police were all lined up under the tall bridge, searching for the man who fell and the car. A crane hauled the car up, water spilling out of the windows.

Qiao Nian hurriedly ran over to the policeman. The police shook his head. Qiao Nian felt as if a hammer had knocked her hard in her head.

They didn’t find Qiao Minde. They couldn’t find her brother!

"Please! You need to find him! Please!" Qiao Nian grabbed the police’s sleeve and begged him.

Pulan came and separate her from the police. She nodded to the police, indicating that she got this. The police nodded back and went to talk to his colleagues.

Pulan looked at the long stretch of river. Qiao Minde, where are you? She watched as they send divers to retrieve him. It has been hours since the resucuers were sent out to find him.

On one of the buildings, she saw the huge electronic billboard displaying the latest news. She narrowed her eyes and gritted her teeth.
