Chapter 154: Chapter 154: It must be a man
The masked man let go of her arms, eyes averted, and straightened his back. Qin Zhuzhu blinked a few times, trying to gather her thoughts.
She scrutinized the man again, as if trying to catch any signs that would give his identity away. There was nothing similar other than his height and build. His eyes had become dark, and she didn’t dare to look into that seemingly empty pit.
But if one were to look underneath that mask, the man was actually burning up.
"Uh... that... I’m sorry," Qin Zhuzhu laughed softly.
"It’s okay," his voice was emotionless.
At that moment, Qin Zhuzhu’s stomach rumbled. With mischievous eyes, she looked up at him and rubbed her stomach.
"I’ll buy you some food," the man turned to the door.
"Okay! Can you find my purse? I think it’s outside somewhere."
The man only nodded and walked into the side room connected to the Presidential Suite.
He found her purse after a short search. There was a flash of light inside her purse, coming from an incoming call.
Shentu Jing took a casual glance. The caller ID was someone by the name of Crimson Wolf Lord.
Who is that? The name sounded vaguely familiar. But he can’t seem to remember who it was.
The call didn’t go off, and the screen kept flashing. There was no sound because the ringtone had been muted.
Shentu Jing stared at it for a few seconds before his long, slender fingers pressed the green button.
On the other end of the line, there was the sound of wine glasses clinking, and then a husky male voice came through.
"Hello, Zhuzhu Goddess, a few days later is your birthday. I’ve prepared something amazing for you."
Shentu Jing: "..."
"Hello?"
Shentu Jing hesitated, unsure if the man on the other end would say anything more.
"You’re not Qin Zhuzhu, are you?" The man’s slightly evil-sounding voice spoke again. If it was Qin Zhuzhu, the girl would have scolded and cursed him.
Shentu Jing remained silent. If he spoke, he would blow his cover. But it seemed like this man knew that something was off.
There was the faint sound of someone pouring wine into cups.
"Then who are you? Let me guess," the evil, playful voice chuckled softly in an interested tone.
"It must be a man... A man... Definitely not that ex-husband—too useless. Hmmm... A man who’s with her at this time of night, are you dating? In a relationship? Don’t tell me she really brought back ten thousand men to serve her in her harem?!"
Shentu Jing’s face turned ugly the next second. He thought he was the only one who knew about her crazy words that day. This Little Pearl must have gone around telling every man she met about putting them in her harem!
The man chuckled huskily before speaking in a tone filled with dangerous malice. "Heh, if you’re in a relationship, then has she told you that she has a clandestine affair with someone? Yes, that someone is me."
The man then laughed. It was a chilling laughter as if it’s owner had come from the depths of hell.
What did he mean?
Just as Shentu Jing was about to probe him for more information, the battery symbol flashed red three times, and the next second, the screen turned black. It turned out that the phone had died because of low battery.
"Hellooo, sir, are you there?!" Qin Zhuzhu called out.
Shentu Jing quickly collected himself and strode back to the room, handing the purse back to her.
"Wait a minute," he said and went out again.
He walked to one of the street-side stalls selling food and ordered something for her. While waiting for the hawker to pack the food, Shentu Jing kept thinking about the call just now.
What did he mean by a clandestine affair? That person seemed close to Qin Zhuzhu.
Did Qin Zhuzhu have a boyfriend but just never mentioned it?
At the thought of this possibility, Shentu Jing’s face turned stormy. The hawker passed the plastic bag to Shentu Jing, who took it as if he were strangling someone.
Face white with fear, the hawker started to sweat at the sight of the masked stranger. Fully clothed in black and camouflaged in the shadows—if this wasn’t an assassin from a drama, then what was it? Cosplay? Wasn’t this too real?!
Shentu Jing didn’t say a word, paid, and turned to leave. The hawker breathed a sigh of relief.
On the way back, Shentu Jing pushed the matter down, as he couldn’t tell if that man had said that on purpose or not to deliberately strike a blow at his love rival.
He swiped the card, and the door opened with an electronic beep.
"Is the food here?" the girl’s voice called.
Shentu Jing didn’t reply and walked in, noticing that she was wearing fresh clothes.
He swung the plastic bag in front of the girl’s hungry eyes and set it down on the table.
Qin Zhuzhu, like a child uncovering Christmas presents, opened the food packaging with delight. She sniffed the wonderful aroma of pig trotters, her face full of bliss, and her eyes bright as stars.
"Oh, my heavens! My darling little pig trotters!" She picked up one and started to suck on it, nibbling while praising it.
Pig trotters could make her happy? Next time, he would buy more for her. Shentu Jing watched that cute face eat to her heart’s content.
Suddenly, Qin Zhuzhu stopped eating and looked at the masked man, then back at the delicious food in her hands.
A pig trotter came into his view.
"Want some?" the girl asked.
He shook his head.
"Okay then. You’re missing out," she gave him a smile and proceeded to lick her fingers.
Shentu Jing turned his head away, looking to the other side. The scene of the girl eating happily was going to make him reveal himself.
One standing, one sitting. Qin Zhuzhu looked up and noticed that watch again, on his wrist.
