42: 42nd Episode: Playing the Fool 42: 42nd Episode: Playing the Fool Hai Mingzhu was so excited she didn’t pay attention to her loud voice, which attracted several side glances.

The salesperson in charge of their area saw the two lingering in front of the display case and assumed they were interested buyers.

As the salesperson approached, Hai Mingzhu shouted about seeing a ghost, so the salesperson quickly retreated.

They were willing to negotiate a deal with a well-mannered customer, but they refused to conduct business with a maniac!

Shen Yue’s eyes sparkled with amusement, “You’re really smart to figure out that the ghost girl is a hologram.”

“Wait a second!”

Hai Mingzhu felt the pieces in her mind falling into place, “…

the 13th floor doesn’t have a ghost, Manager Song had a split personality due to stress and believed he was a ‘butterfly’.

I initially didn’t believe your explanation because I always had a question in my mind.

I couldn’t figure out what it was until today.

But it’s not just Manager Song who saw a ghost — others did too.

We can assume Xun Jiasheng was pretending to be possessed by the spirit of Hu Jiasheng to escape.

But…

Tie Zheng and Qi Xin, they clearly saw a ghost.”

She stared at Shen Yue, saying excitedly, “I came to see you today to ask about this; and you knew I would.

Is that why you brought me here?”

Shen Yue merely smiled, offering no answer.

“You’re implying that with modern technology, holography can create ghost-like images in thin air, and the female ghost that Tie Zheng and Qi Xin saw might be a holographic projection by someone.”

Hai Mingzhu caught on quickly, “You had your phone out the whole time on the 13th floor and nobody knew what you were looking at.

Now I know, you must have detected the coherence of the laser’s light, which made you suspect that someone was creating a ghost using a hologram.”

This elicited an appreciative expression from Shen Yue.

Though Hai Mingzhu seemed somewhat confused, she was able to connect all the dots with a single hint and did not persist with her initial assumptions.

Shen Yue realized that her intelligence was not to be underestimated.

“With your suspicion, you pretended to exorcize the ghost…

Wait, I saw you wake up Manager Song for a brief moment.

How did you do that?” Hai Mingzhu asked with a hint of hesitation.

“That’s…

a trade secret I can’t reveal,” Shen Yue responded seriously.

Hai Mingzhu pouted, “Is it really that mysterious?” But she did not press further and continued, “The hologram we see here is stationary.

If we wanted it to float around like the ghost on the 13th floor, someone has to be moving the projector!”

Shen Yue nodded in agreement.

“You knew early on that someone was causing mischief.” Hai Mingzhu’s thoughts flowed like a geyser, “So when you pretended to exorcise the “ghost”, you figured there’d be another sighting.

The prankster knew the layout of the 13th floor well, ensuring nobody could spot him.

If you tracked the signal, you’d track the prankster, and with it find the way out?

You indeed discovered the exit path.

The rope used must have been left behind by the prankster.”

She paused, then confessed, “Advisor Shen, you truly are brilliant.”

“That’s what I intended to say about you, but you’ve beat me to it,” Shen Yue said, smiling.

Hai Mingzhu bit her lip, “You’re truly brilliant, I’m just pretending to be.” She suddenly thought of a question, “Who was playing tricks on the 13th floor?”

Before Shen Yue could answer, Hai Mingzhu posited, “Now we are sure there isn’t a ghost on the 13th floor.” Shen Yue’s eyes subtly hinted at something unusual, but Hai Mingzhu, not noticing, continued, “The person responsible for projecting the ghost with the hologram tunred out to be human.

If they weren’t from the Giant Corporation, then they were most likely among us.

Whoever was missing from the scene at the time is the prime suspect, correct?”

“It seems like everyone was present,” Shen Yue offered with a smile.

“No!”

Hai Mingzhu disagreed outright, “To my knowledge, at least two people were unaccounted for.” Before she could finish, someone interjected, “You seem caught up in a great discussion, but it’s about time we got to work.”

Turning her head, she saw was Jin Xin.

Hai Mingzhu seemed somewhat surprised, “How did you find us?”

“Trade secret,” Jin Xin replied.

Hearing those two words from Jin Xin, it seemed he had been there awhile since Shen Yue used the same words earlier.

“President Jin, don’t you want to know who’s playing ghost?” As if suddenly realizing something, she added, “You must’ve known about the prankster, too, along with Advisor Shen, but you didn’t say anything.”

Jin Xin shook his head, “What did I know?

I have no idea what you’re talking about.

It’s almost time, let’s go.”

He got on the escalator and went downstairs first.

Hai Mingzhu stuck out her tongue at Jin Xin’s retreating figure, then approached Shen Yue in a friendly manner, “Let’s go Advisor Shen.

As employees, we have to obey the boss’s orders.”

The trio left the mall and headed for the Giant Building.

Upon reaching the elevator lobby, Hai Mingzhu murmured, “I hope we don’t get stuck on the 13th floor again.”

Sensing someone approaching, she turned and her expression shifted upon recognizing Qi Xin and his brothers from Qi Family Security.

“Weren’t you guys missing?” Hai Mingzhu unexpectedly initiated a conversation, asking Qi Li and Qi Tai, “How did you get out?

Did anything happen to you?”

Qi Li and Qi Tai exchanged glances but stayed silent.

Qi Xin finally replied on their behalf, “They’re both fine, thank you for asking.

They’re not sure how they got out.

They’re still a bit confused.

A lot of weird stuff happened last night.”

“I found it odd as well.” Hai Mingzhu ignored Shen Yue’s warning look, and hinted at Qi Xin, “You seemed particularly concerned about your brothers’ whereabouts on the 13th floor last night.”

“Of course.” Qi Xin frowned, “Our brotherhood is strong.

When they went missing, I was naturally anxious.

I wouldn’t have thrown such a fit otherwise…” He shook his head, “I didn’t expect Manager Song’s mental state to be so unstable.

It was all due to him, I was actually frightened out of my wits.”

“But when we took the elevator down, your brothers hadn’t reappeared, and you didn’t even ask Gao Jie about them.

It seemed you weren’t too worried about them,” Hai Mingzhu said staring at Qi Xin.

His expression seemed frozen as he finally awkwardly responded, “Really?

I don’t remember.”

“Mr.

Qi, did you know your brothers would be okay, and that’s why you weren’t worried?” Hai Mingzhu asked, not letting it go.

At the sound of a ‘Ding’, the elevator doors opened.

Qi Xin coughed, “The elevator’s here, let’s go.” Inside the elevator, he noticed Hai Mingzhu didn’t seem ready to get in with Shen Yue and Jin Xin, “Aren’t you guys taking the elevator?”

“We’ll take the next one,” Hai Mingzhu responded with a straight face, “We’re afraid of someone playing ghostly pranks on us!”

As the elevator doors slowly closed, through the narrowing gap, they could still see the stern expression on Qi Xin’s face!
