36: Section 36: Trapped in a Desperate Situation 36: Section 36: Trapped in a Desperate Situation Everyone sighed in relief as Manager Song fainted, only to have their hearts jump to their throats at the sound of a shrill cry from outside the hall.
Jin Xin stood near the entrance, in time to see a faint glimmer of light in the distance before it disappeared.
At the same time, Qi Xin shouted, “The Butterfly left Manager Song and went outside the hall.”
Shen Yue had been quiet and still as the Butterfly recounted the past, but now, he sprang to action, hurrying outside.
His phone screen displayed a seven-line panel, and he dashed off in the direction of the vanished light, focusing on the changing lines on the screen.
Jin Xin and Hai Mingzhu didn’t need an order; they followed almost without hesitation.
Xun Jiasheng croaked, “Catch up, we must destroy her, or we will all be killed by the ghost one by one.”
To nip the problem in the bud and catch the ghost was his fear.
He privately thought Shen Yue was a skilled exorcist, and only Shen Yue seemed a match for the ghost.
Now was not the time for them to scatter.
Although everyone despised Xun Jiasheng, there was no denying the inciting power of his words, and many of them followed.
“President Jin, how can Advisor Shen track the ghost’s path?” Hai Mingzhu pantingly asked while jogging, always present-minded in asking questions.
“At a time like this, we must believe in the judgements of the leadership,” Jin Xin responded vaguely, focusing on not losing Shen Yue’s figure.
All was silent except for the eerie sound of footsteps echoing back and forth.
After a while, Jin Xin suddenly stopped, noting that Shen Yue had stopped in front and was staring at the colorful lines on his phone screen, deeply immersed in thought.
“What’s going on?” Jin Xin asked quietly.
“Where’s the Butterfly?” Hai Mingzhu concurrently, finding herself in a cul-de-sac with walls on all three sides.
The overhead lamp was old and flickered a green light, casting a bizarre hue on the faces of the three.
Shen Yue remained silent.
The sounds of footsteps caught up, and the others, including Tie Zheng and Xun Jiasheng, arrived to see the three still standing there and simultaneously asked, “Where’s the ghost?
Where has it gone?”
Xun Jiasheng was the most anxious, “Master, did you lose her?”
“Even if the Master loses her, it’s okay – the ghost is not after us anyway,” Jin Xin remembered to rake Xun Jiasheng over the coals.
Xun Jiasheng rasped, “The ghost’s target for revenge is not me.”
Qi Xin scoffed, “If you have unresolved grudges from your past life with her, she won’t let it go until she finds hers.”
“I have no connection with her.
I’m Xun Jiasheng, not Hu Jiasheng!” Xun Jiasheng insisted.
“So why did you act as Hu Jiasheng just now?” Feng Jingye questioned.
“If you guys hadn’t come to help, would the ghost have let me go if I didn’t say that?” Xun Jiasheng retorted angrily.
Everyone had a realization, thinking that this guy does actually have some idea about the supernatural world.
Tie Zheng, seeing Shen Yue lost in thought, asked anxiously, “Advisor Shen, what should we do now?” The old man could distinguish the urgency of the situation, and knew that among everyone present, Shen Yue was the most reliable.
Shen Yue glanced at Tie Wa, seeing him carrying Manager Song.
Tie Zheng explained, “We couldn’t leave him alone there in your haste.
He’s been possessed by a ghost, but after all, he’s still a living person.
We can’t just watch him die here.”
Shen Yue nodded slightly.
“Would it be better to return and wait for the ghost in our lair since we’re not familiar with this place?” Xun Jiasheng suggested.
During this critical moment of life and death, he could not afford to not work his mind.
“The exit is gone!” Zhou Dewei suddenly exclaimed.
Everyone turned back in surprise, and saw a wall where they had come from.
In such a situation, they naturally walked towards the opening, never expecting the exit to become a wall without reason.
“It’s similar to the disappearing elevator,” Tie Zheng replied, his lip twitching as he realized the severity of the situation.
“We’re trapped between four walls by the ghost!” Feng Jingye rasped out, his face filled with terror, “What does the ghost intend to do?”
“Shen Yue, why did you bring us to a dead-end?” Xun Jiasheng reprimanded.
Jin Xin immediately retorted, “We didn’t ask you to come along!”
Before Xun Jiasheng could retort, he rushed back to the entrance and threw his shoulder against the wall.
Everyone heard a dull thud, Xun Jiasheng stepping back, the wall unmoved.
Tie Zheng stepped forward and examined the wall, speculating, “There should be a sliding door here, but it’s locked.”
“It’s the ghost’s doing.” The most frenzied Xun Jiasheng went around the four walls before shouting in despair, “If you hadn’t followed the ghost, we wouldn’t have either.
It’s you Jin Tang people who’ve brought death upon us all.”
Qi Xin scoffed, “Isn’t it you, Hu Jiasheng, who’ve brought death upon us all?”
Xun Jiasheng glared at Qi Xin, “I’ve told you, I’m not the ghost’s husband, why won’t any of you believe me?”
Qi Xin dismissively stated, “I also said we brothers weren’t robbers, but you didn’t seem to believe that.”
Xun Jiasheng was silent, rendered speechless.
“Stop arguing, what’s the point at this stage?” Tie Zheng, being the steadier one at critical moments, said, “Even if we were back there, the ghost has powerful magic, and she might have trapped us there too.
Now is not the time to shift blame, but to think of getting out.
Advisor Shen …
should we find a way to break down the wall?”
Tie Zheng felt that being trapped here was not the solution.
Breaking through the ghost’s barrier was the most important thing.
Before Shen Yue could respond, Hai Mingzhu shrieked, “What’s that?” Amid the cacophony, Hai Mingzhu felt that Jin Xin and Shen Yue remained resolute, giving her the impression they had a plan.
Suddenly, she felt something move against her foot, a coldness suggesting a bug crawling over her skin, causing her to jump and scream.
Water splashed up!
When she landed, Hai Mingzhu realized that water had inundated her foot.
She looked slightly embarrassed, “I thought it was a bug.
Hey, where did the water come from?”
Everyone else noticed the abnormality of the water, and they all exclaimed, “Why’s there water on the ground?”
Except for Hai Mingzhu, everyone else was wearing leather shoes – because Hai Mingzhu was wearing athletic mesh shoes, she was the first to sense the water.
The water flooded in, silently!
“Where is the water coming from?” Feng Jingye asked first.
Everyone else was likewise puzzled, wondering where the water could be coming from with walls on all four sides and no falling water from above.
Shen Yue crouched down and felt the ground, frowning, “The water is seeping up from the ground.”
“How …
how is that possible?” Zhou Dewei exclaimed, “Aren’t we on the thirteenth floor?” If they had been on flat ground, it would have made sense for water to spring from the ground, but they were on the thirteenth floor, how could water possibly seep up from their feet?
“This is not the thirteenth floor, this is the ghost’s realm,” Xun Jiasheng said, his body trembling violently.
“The water is rising!” Shen Yue suddenly announced.
Initially, the water had just covered their soles, which is why Hai Mingzhu had felt it first.
However, while they were talking, the water had covered everyone’s feet.
“I know what the ghost intends to do,” Xun Jiasheng, brimming with desperation, said fearfully, “She died by drowning in a pig cage, she will drown us the same way!”
