Chapter 105: Chapter 90 - Life in Crisis! (Extra for Alliance Hierarch I am a Little Bookworm)_2
"Quite clever, huh."
Dong Xue mumbled, pulling out a large ingot of gold and handing it over, "You’re here for a reward, right? Take it."
Jiang Shouzhong didn’t reach out to take it, "May I see the lady?"
"No, take your reward and leave. Don’t push your luck!" Dong Xue waved her hand dismissively, urging him to go.
"Dong Xue!"
At that moment, another slender figure approached.
The woman glared at her sister, who turned her cheek away from Jiang Shouzhong and stuck her tongue out at the woman, instantly replacing the previous coldness with a playful and quirky charm, as if she had become someone else.
Qiuye ignored her sister, her elegant eyes glancing at Jiang Shouzhong, a faint blush crossing her cheeks as she remembered the scene of them healing together, then spoke indifferently, "What kind of reward do you want? I can’t offer anything too valuable, I’m just a guard, not as precious as you think."
"May I see the lady, please?"
Jiang Shouzhong said with a smile, realizing that the woman in front of him was Qiuye.
Qiuye slightly furrowed her brows, troubled, but eventually told her sister Dong Xue, "Go ask the lady if she’s willing to see him."
Dong Xue, who was about to say something, closed her mouth when she saw her sister narrow her eyes, and left obediently.
The two were left at the entrance, engulfed in silence.
The woman, dressed in a snug black attire that fit tightly to her body, stood with a straight back, like an unsheathed long sword, its edge chilling cold, which reminded Jiang Shouzhong of the cool and stunning way she had appeared that night.
"Um..." Jiang Shouzhong, trying to make conversation, said, "How’s your injury healing?"
Qiuye pressed her lips together without a word.
The woman’s silence made Jiang Shouzhong feel a bit awkward, so he closed his mouth.
"You haven’t had any strange reactions, have you?"
Qiuye suddenly asked.
Jiang Shouzhong knew she was referring to the poisonous bead he had swallowed and shook his head, "Nothing strange, eating and sleeping as usual."
Jiang Shouzhong intentionally hid some details.
In fact, it was only after being done with Ms Zhang’s funeral that he found out that the toxin from the poison bead had been absorbed by the Yin-charm figurine.
This meant that he was now essentially immune to all poisons.
Qiuye nodded and said no more.
After a while, Dong Xue returned, casting a glance at Jiang Shouzhong and saying to Qiuye, "The lady said to bring him over."
"Let’s go."
At the corner of the corridor, while her sister was not paying attention, she whispered a reminder, "Don’t mention the healing."
Jiang Shouzhong was momentarily stunned but nodded lightly.
Under the guidance of the two women, Jiang Shouzhong arrived at a two-story inner pavilion.
The interior of the pavilion was lavish, adorned with exquisite ceramics, jade, and bronze. The embroidered curtains hung low, and Jiang Shouzhong walked on a carpet of fine wool, feeling as if each step was on clouds.
Most wondrous was a colored glass lantern hanging from the ceiling. Jiang Shouzhong had seen one before in the Dye Residence; it was said to be an overseas item that, when lit at night, glittered as if a river of stars had descended to earth, utterly beautiful.
The one from the Dye Residence, however, was much smaller than this one.
Jiang Shouzhong couldn’t help but feel amazed; whoever married the lady from Silver Moon Tower was indeed marrying a gold and silver mountain.
Expecting to be led upstairs, they instead pushed open an exquisitely arched door, arriving in an incredibly spacious garden with rockeries, flowing water, and rare flowers, resembling a vibrant painting of a Jiangnan garden.
After winding around the serpentine gallery, they finally stopped in a small garden vista.
The lady of the Silver Moon Tower, who Jiang Shouzhong had seen before, was sitting inside an ice-like clear pavilion. Made of aquamarine and colorless glass, the pavilion basked in the cool and soft sunlight that fell upon the woman, making her seem like a charming Goddess in a dreamy garden.
Outside the pavilion stood two valiant black-clad female guards.
They looked as identical to Qiuye as one could be.
"Master Jiang, we meet again. It seems we are quite fated," said the beautiful woman behind Silver Moon Tower, known for her "skirt wealth unmatched in the world," smiling at Jiang Shouzhong as she lazily crossed her exquisite legs, her posture languid and seductive.
The woman was dressed in a pressed silver brocade skirt with a sheer overcoat, the contours of her shoulders and neck faintly visible.
Jiang Shouzhong steadied himself, suppressing the shock and amazement he had felt all the way here, bowed respectfully, "Liushan Division’s Jiang Mo has seen the lady. I apologize for disturbing your rest."
Jiang Shouzhong purposefully didn’t mention saving Qiuye.
After all, he was indeed there for a reward, and there was a mutual understanding in the room.
However, the woman was quite straightforward, "Are you here to ask for a reward?"
Jiang Shouzhong hesitated for a moment before nodding honestly.
The woman named Jiang Yi rested her chin on her hand, her slender jade finger tenderly stroking the thin porcelain of a delicate white cup, saying softly with a smile, "Qiuye is my cherished treasure. You saved her, and such a great kindness cannot be repaid with just a few pieces of gold. But I don’t know how to thank you, alas, what should I do? It’s not like I can have my Qiuye offer herself to you in return."
The woman’s dainty little finger caressed her refined temple, revealing a look of distress.
Qiuye kept her head down, expressionless.
Dong Xue’s lively eyes darted back and forth between her elder sister and Jiang Shouzhong, her expression thoughtful.
The eldest sister, Chun Yu, showed a hint of worry.
The second sister, Xia He, remained as indifferent as ever, as if her flesh and spirit were forged from ice, her eyes cold.
The quadruplets shared the same appearance, yet each displayed a distinctly different personality.
