Chapter 991: Chapter 896: Detective Code of Honor_2
Upon entering, the gambling manager said with a gloomy tone.
Behind the safety door was a cold corridor.
"But today, you’re in luck, kid."
"Why?"
The young man looked at him sideways, his gaze making the manager suddenly feel a chill, "200,000 watts isn’t a small sum. Offering a bounty of 10,000 watts is more than enough to take down a stranger who’s unfamiliar with the area. Oasis has plenty of people willing to risk their lives for that money."
"10,000 watts can’t buy the Rebel Army."
The manager bolstered his spirit, "You must be feeling pretty desperate right now. You barely escaped from the Skull Gang’s territory, thinking you had found a savior, only to be delivered here by the Rebel Army."
"You haven’t answered my question."
"Because the High Priest...why should I answer your question?"
The manager suddenly raised his voice. Since they had met, the young man had been very unusual. According to the information investigated by the Brotherhood, the young man didn’t count for much in the seventeenth district. The only thing they valued was his experience as a volunteer in the Law Enforcers.
Lu Xiang was famously protective, and according to their plan, the disappearance of a youngster from the seventeenth district was enough to bring the first-to-the-front Lu Xiang to Oasis personally.
And once he was on their turf, the identity of a Law Enforcer meant nothing.
Despite some twists and turns, the situation had ultimately returned to their control.
"Better think of happy things. Actually, you should never have run away. If you hadn’t resisted and came here obediently with the Skull Gang’s people, we would have treated you, the visitor from afar, very well."
As he spoke, they already reached the room at the end of the corridor. The manager smiled, "Go on in. The person you want to see is in there."
As the door unlocked, the figure of a graceful woman entered his view.
The woman in the room was dressed in designer clothes, with expensive-looking earrings on her ears, wavy hair falling onto her shoulders. Hearing the noise at the door, she turned around in surprise, her glossy lips squeezing out a tentative smile.
"You’ve come."
?
A question mark popped up above the young man’s head.
The manager shoved him from behind and then locked the door.
This scene was somewhat different from what he had expected, or rather, no normal person would think that in the back room of a Brotherhood gambling parlor, there would be a girl waiting to marry him upon their first meeting.
The girl assumed the role of a go-between, claiming that as long as he followed the arrangements of the Brotherhood, they could marry soon. Although he couldn’t return to the seventeenth district, the Brotherhood would set up a team for him in Lira. The profits in the scam industry were unimaginably high, and just a few years of work would allow them to live the high life in Oasis.
And as the girl rambled on, the young man finally understood what had happened to "himself."
He had been deceived from the seventeenth district to come here.
The girl was someone he met on a dating website. To lure him from the seventeenth district, the Brotherhood had put in a lot of effort to find a girl who matched his ideal in both looks and character based on the standards he set on the site. Then they had the Brotherhood package her as the daughter of a high-ranking corporate executive, incrementally breaching the young man’s psychological defenses.
Ha, another naïve youngster with no experience of the world.
The young man scoffed internally.
He never imagined "he" would be foolish enough to believe that a girl he had never met would bring him to Oasis to inherit a fortune.
"Just agree with them, you have nothing to lose."
The girl still urged vehemently, "Save me, if you refuse, they will send me to that kind of place!"
"Aren’t you from Oasis?"
"I, I’m from Free City (the capital of Neutral Country No. 12), here in Oasis on vacation."
The girl’s voice softened.
In her time in Oasis, everything she witnessed had overturned her perception. Only here did she realize that this place was not as wonderful as advertised online. The only reason she hadn’t been violated yet was simply because she was "lucky enough" to fit a seventeenth district person’s love standard.
"I don’t want to be sent to that kind of place..."
She looked at the young man with pleading eyes.
The manager had warned her. If she couldn’t persuade the young man, she would become worthless to the Brotherhood.
"Sorry, I can’t marry you."
"Why, why?"
"Because I’m not interested in women."
The casino manager who had just walked in happened to overhear this remark and was so shocked that he forgot everything he had intended to say.
The girl was brought in by him, and he personally controlled all of their chat records, so he knew exactly that by the time they arrived at Oasis, their relationship had progressed to the point of discussing marriage. The Brotherhood had also shown enough sincerity, as long as this young man could lure Lu Xiang to Oasis, not only could he take away the girl he had long been fond of, but he would also receive a large sum of money.
But just then, the young man revealed a secret that took everyone by surprise.
It took the manager a good fifteen seconds to process this astonishing fact before he asked, "So, you like men? What type do you like, any specific requirements? I can also try to arrange that for you."
Luring Lu Xiang to Oasis was the primary mission assigned to him by the Brotherhood, and under this premise, he was willing to respect everyone’s preferences.
"I don’t like men either."
"Then what do you like?"
"Playing poker."
"I can play poker with you, every day if you want!"
Upon hearing this, the girl quickly said.
The discussion about poker, however, did not proceed smoothly; flustered staff rushed over to them, saying, "Manager, someone is causing a disturbance outside!"
Causing a disturbance?
The manager was shocked once again; he felt that there were just too many weird things happening today.
This place was the Brotherhood’s territory. In all the years he had been a manager, aside from drunkards acting out, no one dared to cause trouble on their turf.
If it were just a drunken lunatic, the security would have handled it easily, so there was no need to come to him.
"You two stay here, don’t go anywhere, and I expect a satisfactory answer from you when I get back."
After leaving a stern warning, the manager locked the door and followed the flustered staff member toward the exit.
"Manager, it’s him!"
A young staff member pointed from afar towards the neatly queued line at the chip exchange. A middle-aged man was smacking the end of the queue, whispering to a young man beside him.
The act of causing a disturbance didn’t seem to have caused much turmoil, as the activities inside the casino continued as normal, except for a security guard lying unconscious at the entrance.
"Are you sure it’s him?"
The manager asked again; he had never seen anyone who, after taking down a casino’s security guard, would stand in line at the chip exchange like nothing happened.
"It’s him!"
The manager approached calmly and noticed that the middle-aged man seemed to be in a quarrel with his companion.
"I told you not to rush, don’t mind me, just let me think for a minute."
"Haven’t you watched a lot of movies? Just mimic the scenes from them."
"The movies I watch all have righteous protagonists, none of them start trouble!"
The middle-aged man argued confidently.
On their way to the casino, Song Lan and "Nothingness" had made a detailed plan: once they arrived at the casino, "Nothingness" would be responsible for smashing the place to create chaos, while Song Lan was to take advantage to slip into the back hall and rescue the young man.
But upon arriving at the casino, they encountered a serious problem.
They had no experience in causing disturbances, so after knocking down a security officer, "Nothingness" found himself at a loss.
"Let’s split up, stop following me!"
"Nothingness" was getting somewhat annoyed by the nagging and suggested they separate.
With fewer and fewer people in front of the line, a sexy casino girl waited for him at the exchange, all smiles, and asked, "How many chips would you like to exchange, sir?"
"I’m not here to exchange chips, I just want to inquire about something."
"Please go ahead, sir."
"I’m planning to smash this casino, but I don’t want to accidentally hurt innocent bystanders, where do you suggest I start?"
