Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Emergency Meeting_1
The next day.
The First Region, the headquarters of the United Government.
An emergency meeting was imminent, and a kind of schadenfreude pervaded the enormously large meeting room.
Just one day before the emergency meeting was convened, a shocking piece of news rocked everyone—something extraordinary had happened in the Seventeenth District which is controlled by the Foster Family.
The one who publicly indicted the Foster Family was the local mayor, Lyon Selbot.
From the expression of the current leader of the Foster Family at this moment, it was clear that this sudden news had caught them off guard—public opinion this severe was not something they could easily quash.
If this situation was in normal times, the Foster Family might have had time to think about countermeasures, but right now, during the emergency meeting, they had no choice but to leave the cities where their respective forces were located and come to The First Region, where the United Government headquarters was located, to participate in the meeting.
What was more coincidental was that for quite some time in the future, the route starting from the Seventeenth District would become the focus of the United Government’s attention. The Foster Family had caused such a stir at this crucial point; the Review meeting would likely not let this go unnoticed.
Hog Foster ignored the mocking glances from other councilors, sitting in his seat with his ID card, waiting for the meeting to begin.
At 8:00 AM, the emergency meeting began on time.
The large meeting room became silent instantly, leaving only the sound of a person’s footsteps in the room.
Slowly onto the meeting’s main stage, under everyone’s gaze, walked an old bald man, dressed in a retro white robe, with a white goatee, looking like an ancient judge.
"Before the meeting officially begins, there is something that I think all of you may have heard—Yesterday, the mayor of the Seventeenth District Lyon-Selbot made some remarks detrimental to the Foster Family to the media."
For a moment, everyone’s gaze fell on Hog Foster.
Those who were qualified to enter this room, the businesses they control were not exactly clean, but everyone present knew an unspoken rule—don’t get caught.
And definitely do not cause such a sensational wave of public opinion after being caught.
The Foster Family must have been living comfortably for too long; they had neglected the management of the border city they controlled, and this led to this embarrassing incident.
However, no one sympathized with Hog Foster.
They wished wholeheartedly that the Foster Family would collapse completely due to this incident. That way, there would be one less competitor to share the cake with them.
"Chairperson of the Council, we’re already dealing with the aftermath."
The inevitable questioning could not be avoided.
As soon as the aftermath was mentioned, Hog Foster’s expression darkened. An order was given to Dorago Safron as soon as he realized the news was unfavorable.
Eradicate Lyon Selbot at all costs.
Despite this decision intensifying public outcry against them, as long as the key person is eliminated and the evidence points to them are destroyed, time will eventually forget everything.
Yet after anxiously waiting for half the morning, all he got was a reply.
The seemingly friendly expression made him so angry he could spit fire.
He was fooled.
Hog Foster belatedly realized that the situation in the Seventeenth District had entirely slipped out of their control.
Lyon Selbot was not the crux of the problem. What he hadn’t expected was that their contacts planted in the Seventeenth District had also been eliminated.
Lyon clearly didn’t have the capacity to do that. The reason they were in such a passive situation was the widely discussed "helpful citizen". He wasn’t even sure if it was an individual or an organization.
To recover from this setback, he had no choice but to send his confidants to the Seventeenth District to handle the aftermath.
"The aftermath has already been handled appropriately by the Review Meeting. After all, this is a heavy blow to the reputation of the United Government."
Chairperson of the Council scrutinized Hog with a stern glance. "But, it comes at a cost."
Hog, he had guessed what Chairperson of the Council would say next.
In a voice that brooked no refusal, "The gold rush has been over for more than a decade. Now, it’s time for you to hand over the Seventeenth District to the locals."
At these words, Hog instinctively wanted to argue, but he swallowed any words he might say.
The Chairperson of the Council chose to address this matter in such a setting, in front of all the councilors. This meant it was the final decision of the Review Meeting, there was no room for discussion.
As for giving the Seventeenth District back to the locals?
That was nothing more than grandstanding. As the border between the United Government and the "outside", all border cities were snug cakes in the eyes of big families. It was rumored that the Review Meeting had already figured out which family would take over the Seventeenth District.
However, if the matter stops here, for the Foster Family, it could be considered an acceptable outcome.
"I have no objections."
Finally, Hog Foster swallowed his resentment.
"Well, let’s begin today’s agenda."
After the Chairperson finished speaking, a huge holographic image appeared behind him.
The holographic image showed only one person.
Or more accurately, it showed a bounty.
The woman on the reward poster was so beautiful that many councilors instinctively averted their eyes after seeing the holographic projection.
"Bounty: Rebel, Witch of the Snow, Aishi."
"Two million seven hundred and sixty thousand watts."
"Dead or alive"
When the councilors saw the woman’s name, they gasped.
Apart from the steep bounty and the title of Witch of the Snow, what really terrified them was the person represented by this name.
Tyrant, Esinvig.
One of the seven leaders of the "outside" nations not recognized by the United Government, he controls more than ten small towns on the "outside", and his actions have gone beyond the measurement of ordinary criminals.
Once at odds with him, it wouldn’t just be a bandit eradication anymore, but a real war.
Chairperson of the Council remained calm, "The repeat offender, Aishi, has been captured by our secretly dispatched rescuer action team. She will be escorted to the Seventeenth District in a few days, then delivered to the Sixth District for trial along the above-mentioned route. Then, the justice of the United Government will be proclaimed."
At this point, the councilors finally understood the weight of the emergency meeting.
The councilors invited them to the headquarters not to deliver good news, but to notify them to prepare for war. At any point during the convoy transporting Aishi, the Rebels might start a war with a local family to rescue her.
No one rejoiced that justice was about to be served.
This Vanguard brought back a monumental problem from the "outside", and the consequences of angering the Tyrant Esinvig would inevitably be borne by one of the unlucky people among them in place of the Review meeting.
Is this what humans do?
For a moment, the leaders of several families who appeared on the transport route had this thought in their minds.
