Chapter 846: Chapter 830: Collective Amnesia Technique
After sending the message about the meeting to Song Lan, Guan Lili felt conflicted.
On the bright side, if anything were to happen, it was good to have Song Lan in the hotel for backup. The bad news was that the Eden Hotel might suffer a devastating strike, rendering her Platinum Membership Card likely null and void.
Before entering the room, Guan Lili clasped her hands together and prayed devoutly.
"Please no demolition, no demolition, no demolition!"
"Director Guan, what are you doing here?"
Someone noticed her odd behavior and came forward to ask, puzzled.
"It’s nothing."
Guan Lili quickly adjusted her emotions. Controlling personal emotions and facial expressions is a fundamental skill; in the face of reporters and cameras, any subtle expression can be taken by those with ulterior motives and blown out of proportion.
The newcomer whispered, "Has the Boss arrived yet?"
"I haven’t seen him, but he should be here."
Every time a high-level meeting was convened, the founder was almost always the first to arrive. Today, aside from the head of security who was bedridden due to injuries, all department leaders were present at the meeting.
Everyone was emotionally complex, and the atmosphere in the meeting room was somewhat awkward.
They had all been prepared for a future without the founder, yet the founder had survived. Guan Lili felt that today’s meeting was very likely to turn into a reckoning. The department leaders who had refused the founder’s request for aid yesterday could very well be the targets of today’s purging.
Fortunately, she was safe.
Compared to those who were inactive, she had invited the executor from Military Intelligence Section Seven CP0, who held off the number one person from the killer organization when the Assassin arrived. No matter the purge, it couldn’t touch her.
Not only that, she could very well be categorized as a loyal official.
Guan Lili walked into the door of the meeting room. This was not her first time attending a meeting at the Eden Hotel. To accommodate some important personnel’s schedules, they would book the entire hotel during large events and hold some strategic meetings in the hotel’s meeting rooms.
She did what all the participants did upon entering—she couldn’t help but stare at the founder’s neck a few extra times.
Even if some hadn’t seen the Assassin’s live broadcast immediately last night, they would have definitely seen the video that had gone viral online by now.
In the video, the founder’s neck had a gash, from which some kind of never-before-seen mechanical creature had emerged.
But at least for now, the founder’s neck was intact and bore no signs of cracking or cutting.
Everyone was curious, but no one dared to ask.
They wondered how the founder escaped from the epicenter of a Miniature Tactical Nuclear Bomb explosion. From the photos provided by the Law Enforcers, it was clear that the villa was flattened, and the surrounding buildings were also affected to varying degrees.
Today the founder looked much better and didn’t have the abnormal demeanor of the past few days.
In a mix of unease, curiosity, and panic, Kolo Film Industry’s high-level meeting began.
To everyone’s surprise, the founder did not single out each person who had refused him, and the meeting’s agenda was so normally it was unbelievable.
The theme was about work arrangements after the Kolo Film Industry building had been destroyed.
The founder had already negotiated with the Eden Hotel: they would provide them with a basic office space until the new office was rebuilt. The Ragus Foundation had already started the company’s reconstruction plans, and for the foundation, Kolo Film Industry was an important front for their cultural propaganda. They would not give up this position because of an "accident."
If everything went as expected, they would move to the new office space within a month.
In the meantime, all filming and programming would proceed as usual, and the founder repeatedly emphasized that these were fundamental to the company’s foundation, as if the order to stop all filming and have all rescuers protect him, issued yesterday, wasn’t his.
The meeting then progressed to a problem that made everyone distraught.
Supporting criminals, condoning their behavior, and using them as stepping stones for the company’s rescuers when necessary.
If this accusation were proven, it would shake the legitimacy of the rescuers.
Their internally agreed upon outcome was to push all the blame onto the founder and Mikaela, then symbolically "punish" some of the rescuers under the greatest suspicion. They would wait until the issue died down before trying to manipulate public opinion to reverse Kolo Film Industry’s reputation, leaving the impression, "At least this new management team isn’t bad."
As the saying goes, respect the dead. Mr. Founder dedicated his life to Kolo Film Industry, and he likely wouldn’t mind bearing some blame posthumously for the company’s sake.
But who would have thought that the Assassins, who had caused so much disturbance, couldn’t even do their job properly, allowing him to survive.
This directly nullified the plan they had internally agreed upon.
The atmosphere in the meeting room was extremely low. Everyone was looking down, and for a moment, they couldn’t think of a new strategy to save the company’s reputation from danger.
Where should the bewildered Kolo Film Industry go from here?
This question weighed heavily on everyone’s minds, and after exchanging looks, they couldn’t help but think one thing.
Would it be better... if the old man were dead?
Of course, they could only think this in their hearts. They could never actually voice such a notion in such a serious meeting.
