Chapter 820: Chapter 818: Crime Psychology

Area Four had never been as bustling as it was today.

The very next morning, news of the national-level rescuer "Black Sand"’s death had spread throughout the entire United Government.

All morning, the people of Area Four were enveloped in fear, aside from the local Law Enforcers, who had almost entirely emerged from their nests, even the Special Case Investigation had joined in the investigation.

The United Government had always highly valued the death of a Five Stars rescuer, not to mention that this time the deceased was the well-known "Black Sand."

The Law Enforcers department and the Special Case Investigation Bureau sealed off the details of the case, and people only knew that "Black Sand"’s body was found in his own villa, which sounded exactly like the accident Mikaela had encountered at home.

The pressure on the Law Enforcers of Area Four increased significantly.

Because of the involvement of the Special Case Investigation, and because they had deemed Mikaela’s case an accident a few days earlier, this directly led the Special Case Investigation to believe that they were negligent. If they had discovered the clues earlier, perhaps they could have prevented this tragedy.

And Captain Li Ke, who had conducted the on-site investigation twice and reached the wrong conclusions, was pointed out by name.

Now, he had no choice but to leave his department and colleagues and go alone to the Special Case Investigation Bureau.

As he left the building, the Law Enforcers gave him looks of sympathy yet helplessness.

A young Captain of the Law Enforcers, still located in the bustling core city of Area Four, his future should have been bright, but this mistake could have very likely ruined his career.

Upon arriving at the building of the Special Case Investigation Bureau, the agents inside did not show him any kindness, or rather, they never showed kindness to anyone, they just coldly informed him that Detective Catherine was already waiting for him in her office.

He had heard of Catherine; he had met her once on a case before.

Li Ke stood in front of the office door for a long time before he finally knocked.

"Come in."

said the person inside indifferently.

He tentatively pushed open the door, only to be met with darkness.

The woman with long blonde hair was sitting backwards in her office chair, her hands propping up the back of the chair, her chin resting on her hands.

The darkness came from the opaque window curtains; despite it being the brightest time of the day, Catherine had turned her office into night.

She did not turn around, her gaze fixedly staring at the movable blackboard in front of her.

On the blackboard were photos taken from the scene, one of which showed "Black Sand" sitting in a hot spring, wearing his signature black and gold exoskeleton armor, his chest penetrated and the blood already dried. When the Law Enforcers and Special Case Investigation personnel arrived, the entire home hot spring had been dyed red.

"Detective Catherine, did you summon me?"

"If you wanted to take a hot spring, would you do it in exoskeleton armor?"

Catherine asked without turning back.

"...No."

Li Ke answered without hesitation, knowing full well that the scene reeked of strangeness; many in the department doubted the hot spring room of the villa was the primary crime scene, but they had no explanation if the assassin wanted to stage an unfortunate death during "Black Sand"’s hot spring session, why the armor was not removed.

No one would wear exoskeleton armor to a hot spring.

"The assassin is trying to send me a message."

Catherine ignored Li Ke’s response; she seemed to be talking to herself, frowning, her eyes intently staring at the photo of "Black Sand". "But what exactly is the assassin trying to convey?"

"If you’re referring to the method of murder, yesterday we found a cleaner’s body in a trash depot on Sunset Boulevard, the technique of the assassin is exactly similar to the one who killed ’Black Sand’."

"I’ve seen your report, no need to repeat things I already know."

Catherine responded for the first time, though her tone was far from friendly.

Li Ke wisely kept silent.

He had come here today already prepared to be accused of negligence, after all, he was the one who had hastily concluded Mikaela’s death as an accidental incident.

Actually, when he saw Catherine locking herself in the office, he couldn’t help but feel curious.

Despite the eerie nature of the crime scene, the villa’s security system had provided them with valuable clues. During their investigation, they discovered traces of someone hacking into the security system. The hacker had breached the system and released electric currents into the hot spring, likely causing "Black Sand" to enter a temporary paralysis, and surveillance also captured three blurry silhouettes entering "Black Sand"’s villa that night.

If one set aside the peculiar details and returned to the clues themselves, the whole affair wasn’t complicated.

A group of freelance Assassins had broken into "Black Sand"’s home, caught him off guard, and killed him, and as for the motive, everything would become clear once those three were apprehended.

After a long silence, Li Ke tentatively asked again, "Our people are currently investigating those three individuals, we now have reliable information, ’Black Sand’ had visited the old city district yesterday before he was murdered and had caused quite a stir. He seemed to be looking for a hacker named Troy. Should we find Troy, it would be tantamount to finding those three individuals."

In his view, this also perfectly aligned with the information they had gathered from the scene.
