Chapter 815: Chapter 813: Evil Spirits Haunting

In Bai Zhu’s words, the creator of the website was still at an amateur level, so it took her less than a minute to hack into the website’s back end and, as per Song Lan’s request, replace the content with cute animal images.

"This website is quite peculiar."

She dialed Song Lan’s number, "Their targets are all influential figures, I had assumed their technical skills would be much more impressive."

At first, the content on the website led her to consider many possibilities.

Competitors of Kolo Film Industry, some secret forces "from the outside world," or perhaps the mechanical creations Song Lan had mentioned before, but from what she could see, they were only facing a group of amateurs from civil society.

"They’re trying to regain control of the website now, but, to be honest, their countermeasures are just too... childish."

Bai Zhu found it hard to believe that such a civilian group could have taken down a big shot like Mikaela.

"Can you track their identities?"

"I can only track the administrator’s; the website is usually managed and maintained by just him, and right now, he’s in a rage in a residential building half a city away from you."

Bai Zhu not only tracked down the IP address but also saw what the administrator looked like through the cameras and positioning devices near the apartment.

A plump little fellow with fair skin.

So angry that he was smashing his keyboard with a clattering.

As a professional, Bai Zhu disapproved of his behavior. Hacking is a technical job; pounding on the keyboard in rage won’t help you break through firewalls and might even damage your computer, leading to the loss of critical files.

And as soon as Song Lan saw the footage, he sensed something was off with the person.

Who would fly into a rage after seeing photos and videos of so many cute animals?

This clearly showed the individual was mentally disturbed and lacked compassion.

Bai Zhu then shared her experience, "If it were me, I’d stop what I was doing, have a cup of coffee, and then stand on the fence of a junkyard to enjoy the distant scenery. The night ’outside’ actually has its own charm."

"You’ve been driven to fury before?"

Song Lan was somewhat surprised.

Since he had known Dr. Bai Zhu, he seldom saw her falter.

It was a pity he hadn’t met Bai Zhu back when he was still addicted to gaming; otherwise, he would definitely have asked the doctor to help him develop an undetectable cheat.

"Of course, I’m human, not a machine."

"For example?"

"Like when Medea tickles me during a cliffhanger moment while I’m watching a series."

Sometimes she would hit the pause button, go out to get some air and calm down, and other times, she would pick up a pen from the table and jab it at Medea’s head.

As a fellow drama enthusiast, Song Lan could understand the frustration of being interrupted during an exciting moment of a show.

But...

The scenario Bai Zhu just mentioned was something you’d expect from high school kids messing around, wasn’t it?

Just how old were they?

Bai Zhu continued, "So, what do you think? Do you need me to provide you with the exact address, or shall I remotely engineer an ’accident’?"

She had closely observed the amateur hacker’s room, which was filled with defective products from who knows where, which further convinced her that he was self-taught, "A little tampering could set his house ablaze, and by tomorrow morning, you would find reports of a fire."

"Bai Zhu, when did you become so vicious?"

"I’ve always been this vicious."

Bai Zhu said indifferently, "Burning out the brains of other hackers is just the most basic method for us. It’s just that ever since we moved here, you guys generally don’t need my help."

"Don’t talk about us like we’re a criminal organization."

"...Aren’t we?"

"Of course not, we are a community tasked with the development and revitalization of District Seventeen. Tell me his address; I have some questions I want to ask them."

.....................

One quarter of an hour later, Song Lan arrived at the location provided by Bai Zhu, an old residential area.

The locality was filled with old houses that oozed a sense of history. The only reason this neighborhood had survived to this day, it was said, was because certain scenes in movies might require such a setting.

The amateur hacker truly lived up to his "amateur" status.

It was only when Song Lan came to visit a quarter of an hour later that he belatedly realized the danger.

He almost smashed his keyboard to pieces.

The fair and chubby man suddenly had a bad feeling, and hurriedly left his computer chair, grabbing a toolkit and rushing towards the door.

He had hardly taken a few steps when he froze in place.

There was a mirror in the living room, which reflected his panicked face and another unwelcome figure.

He hadn’t heard any noise, yet the others had appeared inside his home.

In an instant, the amateur hacker remembered the fate of the janitor.

A hole appeared in his chest, offering a clear view through to the scenery on the other side. The forensic department of the Law Enforcers said the hole went right through his heart, which had vanished without a trace.

Before his murder, the janitor couldn’t contact any of his partners and didn’t leave any information about the identity of his attacker.

After a brief moment of hesitation, the amateur hacker abruptly pulled out the stun gun hidden in his bag and without hesitation, pulled the trigger.

He had long known what kind of consequence his line of work would eventually bring, and he was well-prepared for this day.

Bright flashes burst forth in the room, and yet, what he saw was akin to a classic scene from a horror film.

The figure in the mirror disappeared, faster than the arc of electricity.

The amateur hacker’s heart hammered in his chest, and he spun around, only to see no one there.

Only the living room mirror once again reflected the spot where the uninvited guest stood—right in front of him, within arm’s reach.

He let out a yelp, his legs gave way, and he fell to the floor.

The intense anxiety was almost suffocating, and being unaccustomed to physical exertion, he clutched at his chest tightly; it seemed like the only way he could catch his breath. The last bit of rationality told him that he was not going to make it out of this apartment.

In any horror movie, when a character is entangled by ghosts or monsters, their death isn’t far away.

Moments later, the amateur hacker struggled to look forward, and unsurprisingly, the figure had disappeared again, as if it could only be refracted through a mirror.

This time, the "ghost" was behind him, its hand raised, ready to pluck his heart from his body just like the janitor’s.

The voice came from above his head, "Mr. Hacker, I want to play a game with you."
