Chapter 812: Chapter 810: Reinforcements
The cleaner, due to his advancing age and decreasing strength, was no longer able to fulfill the role of an assassin and thus courageously retired, deciding to change his profession.
Song Lan heard that he had found a new job in the morgue of District Four, a stable one at that, and he was genuinely happy for the old man.
After hearing his description, Sean Grant was stunned for a long while before he said, "You mean Miss Grella’s judgment was not wrong, and the person who wanted to harm her was the cleaner?"
Unexpected circumstances arose.
After all, even a famous detective in reasoning often assumes the culprit is still alive as a premise, but who could have anticipated that the real culprit would be dealt with before being found?
"Is this a conclusion you’ve drawn based on the results you currently hold, or...?"
"He admitted it himself."
Song Lan felt that there was no deduction that could compare to a criminal confidently confessing all their crimes, "23 cases of falls from heights, all orchestrated by him."
"But, why?"
"To match the content of the script, making the victims die just like the roles they played in it."
"...Mikaela."
Sean Grant suddenly realized; no wonder Guan Lili had secretly asked him to find Song Lan—to think the case was indeed much more complex than he had imagined, "So, the cleaner had an accomplice, he wasn’t alone?"
"His partner killed Powell and framed Zhuang Chi for it."
As he spoke, Sean Grant’s phone suddenly rang; it was his agent calling.
Seeing the caller ID, he knew what would happen once he pressed the answer button, so he kept the phone as far away as possible and plugged one ear before answering the call that seemed as urgent as a death knell.
The next moment, the agent’s bellowing echoed in the villa’s living room for a long time.
Song Lan was startled by the furious agent and for a moment couldn’t tell who the real "Angry Mentor" was—the agent’s tirade lasted nearly five minutes, during which he lashed out at Sean Grant for being involved in a scandal, now being labeled in the media as a "scumbag" and a "playboy."
"Master of Rescuers" was about to start filming, and these rumors could likely affect the show’s broadcast this season; he wanted Sean Grant and Miss Grella to hold a press conference tomorrow and clear things up with the media.
Sean Grant remained silent, waiting for the agent’s rage to subside. When a brief silence settled on the other end of the line, he then asked, "How’s the thing I asked you to handle?"
"It was troublesome, but I took care of it. I’m sending her to your villa right now, but let me make it clear upfront, don’t let me find you throwing some sleazy party in the villa when I get there."
As for Zhuang Chi’s identity, the agent didn’t ask too much.
Leaving him with a warning, the agent hung up the phone.
Song Lan and Sean Grant looked at each other, the phone call had a profound impact on him; he always felt that Sean Grant’s identity and his agent seemed to be reversed, the one who thundered on the phone seemed to be the national-level rescuer of the United Government.
Sean Grant smiled nonchalantly, a stark contrast to the "Angry Mentor" who often berated contestants on the show, "Bad temper, but very efficient at handling things, allowing me to trust him with managing complex issues."
But it was the agent’s volatile temper that contributed to his not-so-good reputation in the industry.
"Such people are becoming rarer in District Four, now it’s filled with a bunch of good-for-nothings who only speak pretty words but can’t get things done."
Sean Grant also took the opportunity to criticize the culture of District Four.
But Song Lan suddenly had an odd suspicion. Maybe the so-called "Angry Mentor" was actually the result of his imitation of his own agent on the reality show, which accidentally earned him a large following of fans.
As for another issue that he was somewhat concerned about, Song Lan felt a bit embarrassed to mention it.
His agent warned Sean Grant not to hold certain unsavory parties at the villa, the specifics of which were extremely disturbing to Song Lan. Could it be that this national hero of a rescuer was actually an old hand at such things, to the point where even his own agent couldn’t stand it?
Considering the status of a national rescuer and the overall environment of District Four, this speculation might indeed be true.
This was not good at all.
As they say, people talk. Lu Xiang would soon be coming to District Four, and if this news reached her and got twisted into him attending those indecent parties, he would be in deep trouble.
Song Lan felt his concerns were justified.
Lately, negative rumors about him had been rampant.
After much thought, Song Lan still felt uneasy and asked, "The party your agent mentioned just now..."
"You want to join?"
"No, I solemnly declare that I have no interest in such parties, I have never participated in discussions about them, and I don’t understand the meaning behind these parties..."
"I know, I know, what I meant to say is, you can’t join that kind of judgment at my place, but if you’re interested, I could introduce you to some people, most of them live in the villa area... Not interested? Okay then, I’m not that interested either."
Facing Song Lan’s increasingly sharp gaze, Sean Grant waved his hand to show he was just joking. After hearing about the janitor’s fate, he certainly didn’t want to suddenly change careers due to health reasons and go looking for a secure job at the morgue.
Besides, he had no heart to consider anything else.
He redirected the conversation back to the matter at hand, "Mr. Song Lan, if I’m not mistaken, you believe there’s a group of serial killers who use screenplay plots to commit murder, and they are currently hiding somewhere in District Four?"
"Mikaela’s death is very likely related to them."
Sean Grant’s question suddenly made Song Lan see the light.
All three of them were cursed individuals. Rashly approaching the founder of Kolo Film Industry might result in not only being unable to help, but also causing the old man’s accidental death.
The death of Mikaela made Song Lan acutely aware of his own limitations.
He could indeed fend off lurking assassins, but if the founder of Kolo Film Industry died of old age or natural causes, even he would be helpless.
The sudden appearance of Sean Grant became an excellent candidate. "The founder of Kolo Film Industry is likely their next target, and the time is tomorrow night. If you want to learn more about this organization, that may be an opportunity to get close to them, just..."
"Just what?"
"First, we need to make sure you don’t have the Jinx Star constitution."
"Jinx Star constitution, what’s that?"
"For example, have you ever gone downstairs to buy a pack of cigarettes and ended up encountering more than nine criminals?"
