Chapter 773: Chapter 771: Genius Mechanic_1
Little pet?
This was the first time the "Emperor" had been referred to so contemptuously.
Yet, on the other hand, the Mechanical Army had not launched an attack against them.
Seeing his silence, the mechanical being raised its left hand and pressed a button on its left forehead, a pale blue light immediately enveloped its body, the whole process lasting about ten seconds. When the light faded, it had changed its appearance.
It was a visage as beautiful as that of a front-line rescuer from the Kolo Film Industry, with golden hair tied back in a single ponytail. The flimsy metallic skeleton it wore had also transformed into a body that seemed identical to a human’s, it was clothed in a silver-gray nano combat suit, and its weapon had morphed into the standard-issue rifle of the United Government’s military.
The golden-haired woman said, "Or do we only have unobstructed communication like this?"
"RT6, is that her code name?"
The "Emperor" asked indifferently, recalling the voice in his mind which always claimed to be a genius mechanic and had never mentioned its own name.
"Hmm, didn’t RT6 tell you?"
The golden-haired woman mumbled, then continued, "Although you belong to RT6, I suppose I should inform you anyway that there is a non-interference treaty between different legions, and her name does not carry weight here."
"Don’t misunderstand, we’re just passing through."
Seeing a possibility for a peaceful resolution, the "Emperor" seized the opportunity. Once a full-scale war broke out with this Mechanical Army, it would be difficult to ensure the safety of the Paladin.
But the words of the golden-haired woman also sent a shock through him.
This Mechanical Army which had beaten back the Tidal Church was only one branch of these mechanical creatures?
And the code name RT6 implied that there were at least six such legions of mechanical beings.
The "Emperor" couldn’t think of where they could all be hiding, as the United Government seemed utterly unaware of their existence.
"Passing through?"
The golden-haired woman looked toward the inner sea of the Misty Archipelago, "Further ahead is the inner sea, the stronghold of the Tidal Church. Did RT6 send you there?"
"This is my own initiative."
"In consideration for RT6, I’ll let you pass, but I won’t provide any diving equipment."
The "Emperor" was uncertain if it was his own misconception, but he thought he saw a look of schadenfreude on the face of the robot.
If it were true, these machines were indeed too intelligent.
As far as he was aware, even the most advanced artificial intelligence existing today did not possess an emotional system.
"We will not interfere with your operation."
The golden-haired woman didn’t reply; she turned to walk towards the floating vehicle. She gestured to the mechanical patrol squad, which dispersed and resumed patrolling the coastal region. The alarm at the inner sea’s defenses was also lifted, and the mechanical leech that had been clinging to the Paladin’s arm fell off. It vibrated its wings and flew off towards the distance like the blood-sucking mosquitoes on the islands.
"Are we... safe now?"
The Paladin asked cautiously.
"For the moment, yes."
The "Emperor" looked up at the receding flight vehicle, after boarding it the golden-haired woman shed her human disguise and returned to her original form.
If only he could contact the genius mechanic now, he had so many unanswered questions.
"Avoid dealing with her."
Just as this thought crossed his mind, the familiar voice suddenly echoed in his brain, though the tone sounded somewhat harsh, as if it was still miffed with him.
"RT6?"
"I don’t like that name, genius mechanic, I hope you keep that title for me."
"Alright, but as comrades, you should also share some intelligence with me."
"RT4, that is her code name. You can simply understand her as the supreme commander of the Fourth Legion. Their duty is frontline warfare and external expansion. Precisely because of this, RT4 was endowed with the setting of a war maniac from the moment she was created."
"And you?"
"My setting is not important. What is important is that this time you must follow my command. If you ignore my suggestions like you did previously in The First Region, I will unilaterally cut off our communication."
To the "Emperor", the genius mechanic seemed like a teen girl in the throes of adolescence. She always expressed her emotions directly, which was why he had never thought she could be a robot.
He knew how to "stroke" the genius mechanic the right way.
The "Emperor" immediately said, "As you command."
"That’s more like it."
The genius mechanic hummed lightly, forgiving his actions in The First Region.
Now that the conflict had been resolved, there was no need for her to continue giving the "Emperor" the cold shoulder. The genius mechanic then said, "They are probably trying to salvage the lost treasures of the Sunken Kingdom. You arrived just in time, you can find the treasures before they do."
"Secret Treasure?"
"Prepare to dive; I will assist you in locating it."
The genius mechanic did not seem inclined to explain too much as she hurried him.
Although RT4 had control of the entire frontline legion, in her eyes, the "Emperor" was no less capable than any of the mechanical creatures, especially in a small-scale combat environment where his performance far surpassed the soldiers of the Fourth Legion.
...
When the three of them arrived at the inner sea coast, the Paladin was still somewhat dazed.
He could not remember how many times he had stood there before, but he never mustered the courage to fulfill his knightly duty to follow the princess to the death. And in a blink, more than 70 years had passed.
Throughout this almost lifetime span, many memories had been erased by time.
After more than seventy years, he finally faced this sea once again, taking out the Octave Box entrusted to him by the princess.
The melodious tune echoed along the seashore, each note seemingly carried away by the sea breeze into the ocean’s depths.
The Paladin was somewhat enraptured as he listened, and only when the music ended did he reluctantly close the Octave Box. Deep down, he also agreed with the "Emperor’s" viewpoint—they truly needed a submersible vehicle armed to the teeth if they wished to reach the Tidal Church, not an inconspicuous Octave Box.
The Mechanical Army had deployed a submersible beyond their understanding, but the constant surfacing of parts and vehicles made it clear that their exploration efforts were not going smoothly.
As such, RT4 had no intention of wasting time on the three of them.
"Why not... ask your robot friend if it can sell us a submersible?"
The Octave Box was pocketed, and the Paladin decided to face reality.
However, before the "Emperor" could speak, a faint whistling from the sea caught their attention.
Looking towards the source, they saw several heads emerging from the water, observing the trio on shore with curious eyes.
Their ethereal cries matched the Octave Box exactly.
The "Emperor’s" operating system immediately provided information on these marine creatures.
Orcas.
Perhaps the most intelligent and spiritual beings in the ocean.
But ever since the third war, they had rarely appeared before humans.
At that moment, the orcas playfully swam through the ocean, occasionally spurting out a mist of water.
"They are inviting us."
As if possessed, the Paladin had this fantastical thought, "Just ride on their backs, and we could pass through the hazardous area to reach the Sunken Kingdom!"
This time, even Diago cast a doubtful look at him.
Riding on the backs of orcas to dive underwater was a scene out of a fantasy film. He had heard the adults at the harbor say the pressure at the ocean floor could easily crush a person’s body.
Moreover, humans cannot breathe underwater like marine creatures.
"Are you sure?"
the "Emperor" asked.
The Paladin quickly replied, "I’m sure, they were summoned by the Octave Box."
This answer prompted the "Emperor" to consider the feasibility of the plan. He knew that if they followed the Paladin’s suggestion, the three of them would never make it to Atlantis. They would only become two pancaked corpses and a cannister of compressed food in the ocean depths. However, they might be able to combine magic and science to a small extent.
"I’ll find a way to obtain a small submersible device, then tie a rope around them and let them guide us."
He had made far too many risky moves recently; one more wouldn’t make a difference.
Perhaps Lady Luck had favored them, or maybe fate was on their side.
.........
Meanwhile, in the Sunken City.
A portly man in lavish attire stood within the grandeur of a palace. He peered through the window, scrutinizing the "sky," occasionally seeing giant shadows sweep overhead.
The "sky" was always the same view. In this kingdom, there was no distinction between night and day.
He frowned deeply, as if something had penetrated the deep sea, reaching into the palace.
It was a melody, familiar yet strange.
Despite not having heard it for a very long time, every note seemed etched into his memory.
This sensation irritated him.
Soon, someone entered the palace.
The newcomer shared common traits with the portly man.
Pale blue skin, gills on the neck resembling those of a fish, pointed ears, and thin membranes between their fingers that looked like the webbing of aquatic animals.
"Reporting to Your Majesty, the banquet is prepared, and the high-level councilors have started to arrive."
"I am aware."
The portly man began to speak, revealing shark-like sharp teeth, then he composed himself, suppressing his inner unease.
Things of the past should be let go with the wind; he had a new era to witness.
Now, guests from The First Region had brought important news.
Only the living are the ultimate victors; history had proven this countless times.
"By the way, Your Majesty, there’s something else you might wish to know..."
"Speak."
"There are Believers who say they encountered a man on the island claiming to be Paladin."
In an instant, the man’s expression changed to one of shock and dread. He almost blurted out, "The Paladin... is he still alive?"
But how could this be?
He had personally witnessed Paladin’s fleet shredded to pieces by the emissaries of the Tidal Master, swallowed by a sea monster resembling a giant serpent.
No, the Paladin couldn’t be alive. It simply wasn’t possible.
This must be a conspiracy of the rebels!
"Find the one spreading rumors."
The portly man’s icy gaze scanned the other, and he said, "Execute him."
