Chapter 744: Chapter 742: Mechanical Heart_1
"What do you know about Rob Lucci?"
After a brief silence, Trian once again spoke up.
"The Emperor" replied truthfully, "I’ve never heard of this person, at least not before my recent return to The First Region. He is said to be an Executor of Military Intelligence Section Seven’s highest operational division."
However, he didn’t take the matter to heart. He was inherently unsociable and rarely inquired about the internal affairs of other divisions, especially when the identity of the other party involved the top-secret Military Intelligence Section Seven. It was normal not to know.
The years he had operated alone "outside" taught "The Emperor" one thing: the world was far more vast than they could imagine. Beyond the United Government existed many truly tough characters, such as Esinvig, the United Government’s top wanted criminal, Archbishop Helifis, the de facto ruler of the Third Country, and the Barrosa Group’s Gene Warriors.
He witnessed firsthand many forces that were beyond the United Government’s comprehension.
The United Government’s control over the world was gradually weakening, and with the increasing internal strife, the entire Empire was in a state of turmoil.
The "god" worshipped by Trian, as well as the Fishing Boat Club, had probably found their opportunity for this reason.
"It’s normal not to have heard of him because he doesn’t exist in this world."
Trian said, "His first appearance was in The Second Region, infiltrating the Iris Consortium’s castle under the guise of an agent from Military Intelligence Section Seven. I suppose you’ve already heard what happened—the leader of the Gilvez Family fled out of fear of prosecution, and the entire castle suffered total Destruction... According to the information I have, it was all his doing, and before the castle’s destruction, this highest operational division didn’t even exist."
"Are you suggesting that he just suddenly appeared out of nowhere?"
"Just like the ’Concerned Citizen,’ the Void, and Narude, who once disrupted the United Government’s investigation of the ’Sun’ operation in The Third Neutral Country."
This information was provided to him by members of the Fishing Boat Club and the High-level Parliament, and only a very few had access to these secrets.
"The highest operational division of Military Intelligence Section Seven was established less than a week ago. Following the incident in The Second Region, the Chairperson of the Council exercised special authority to bypass the commune and pass the bill for the new department’s establishment, unbeknownst to most council members."
If those unaware of the timeline were to investigate retroactively, they would think the existence of the highest operational division and Rob Lucci made perfect sense, but in reality, this wasn’t the case. "And before the incident in The Second Region, he wasn’t our primary target at all."
An unexpected enemy resulted in a total loss in The First Region’s coup, and the enemies they had originally planned for didn’t even appear in the coup, or rather, under these circumstances, she didn’t dare to show up in person.
"Are you suggesting that Rob Lucci, just like the god you worship, isn’t human?"
"The Emperor" caught the implication in Trian’s words.
Before the god and High-level Parliament’s collapse, an anomaly occurred across the world’s timeline, a topic that the internet, including the alliances outside the United Government, still discussed fervently to this day. If the "Coverage" of abilities was any indication, the scope of the temporal anomaly far exceeded that of the god’s domain over The First Region, with the two sides’ Psychic strength not even on the same level.
Even he, who was once titled The Strongest Psychic by the United Government, found it hard to imagine the scale of Psychic strength required to plunge the world’s timeline into anomaly.
"He is indeed not human, but that’s not the real secret I’m here to tell you today."
Trian looked at "The Emperor," "The voice in your head is our real target planned from the beginning, a weakened ’Old God’ nearly forgotten by time. She must’ve never revealed to you the secrets of the Dark Ages, has she?"
Their defeat was already a certainty, but at least in the end, she hoped "The Emperor" could break free from being a puppet.
But her hopes were bound to be unfulfilled.
Because a red light began to flicker in "The Emperor’s" eyes.
This signified that the other party had taken over his thoughts and consciousness, and whatever happened next was beyond his knowledge.
However, this was also an expected outcome.
Trian had kept her promise. Perhaps her recent speech could plant a seed in the puppet’s mind. As for what effect it would ultimately have, that was beyond her control.
The two gazed at each other, the bottom of the prison silent and desolate.
Those eyes, shrouded in red, looked deep into hers, and then a current swept through Trian’s brain, her lingering consciousness plunging into darkness and silence amid the electrical interference.
...
14:21.
The rich aroma of coffee awakened "The Emperor".
His manner of "waking up" this time was somewhat unusual.
It was not a rousing from slumber, but a sudden awareness of being in an unfamiliar environment after a lapse in consciousness, an anomaly that had occurred several times in the past. According to the Mechanic, it was a side effect of the cybernetic body’s imperfect integration.
Cybernetics and Psychic Abilities were inherently opposing forces. 99% of Psychic Ability Users, even after undergoing non-military grade cybernetic transplants, would exhibit symptoms similar to cyber-psychosis. As for someone like him, who had all his body parts replaced, he was the only one in the entire world.
The Mechanic had said it was due to his unique constitution.
But even a special constitution could not entirely eliminate the side effects of the integration of cybernetics and Psychic Abilities.
"The Emperor" steadied his spirit.
Besides the coffee, there were toasted bread and egg tarts on the table.
It seemed to be a casual and comfortable afternoon tea, which was in line with his long-standing habit.
This was one of the few pleasures in his life. When in the "outside world," he always made time in the afternoon to enjoy some local delicacies at the nearest station or tavern. The Mechanic had thoughtfully preserved his "taste buds" function, and only during afternoon tea could he truly relax.
This was what reminded him that he was human, not a brain controlled by metal and machinery.
Only "The Emperor" could not remember when he had arrived here.
The coffee shop in The First Region was as desolate as ever, with only him and a service AI in the entire hall. The owner seemed to have become a hands-off boss after leaving the coffee shop to the AI.
As if sensing his gaze, the neatly dressed maid AI gave him a slight smile and curtsied gracefully.
"The Emperor" always felt that the AI in front of him seemed different from those he had encountered before.
He reviewed the bill.
It amounted to 8.1 watts.
A faint light flickered in his eyes, and he settled the bill in less than a second.
He had important matters to attend to next.
Trian had been incarcerated in The First Region’s prison, and she had promised that the next time they met, she would reveal some secrets unknown to others.
The current Prison Warden was one of his few friends; he would likely agree readily to his request.
"The Emperor" had decided on his next move, but when he contacted the Prison Warden, he was stunned.
Trian was dead.
It was apparently due to a malfunction in the equipment at the Psychic research institution.
The Prison Warden told him that for such a heinously criminal individual, this was the best possible outcome.
A death without any pain, a quiet passing.
Even the inmates in the neighboring cells had not realized that she had already died.
