Chapter 739: Chapter 737: Travel_1

"Dominate" heard the rumbling by their ears, the sound of lightning and thunder.

The arrival of the psychic storm finally brought a sliver of noise to this motionless world where time had ceased to flow, and its consciousness seemed to be swept into the storm, vanishing amidst the chaotic currents of time.

It remembered every word the Whispers had said to it, including the world after the Consciousness Entity dispersed.

Powerful Psychics, after death, their minds and consciousness would continue as Consciousness Entities, and if the Consciousness Entities also dissipated, then nothing would be left, their ultimate imprint would also be erased from this world.

"Dominate," this was still the name given to it by the United Government.

Because of a psychic storm that destroyed an entire block of the city, and a feat that saw it die alongside several Six Stars rescuers, its own name resounded through every corner of the United Government, such an ending could indeed be considered complete.

Who knows how much time had passed, but the noise of the storm subsided.

Perhaps it was an illusion, but amidst those noisy sounds, it seemed to hear someone’s voice.

That voice pierced through the psychic storm and the turbulent flow of time, appearing in its mind, and when the Whisper resounded, everything seemed to return to the past.

"Dominate" remembered that it had indeed heard Whispers from the Devil before, only at that time it had not called them "Devil," and among the many Whispers, it always stood out.

And this time, that voice was still not as calm as at first.

It wasn’t filled with rage or curses but simply posed a question to it.

"If you were to travel, where would you want to go?"

"Dominate" couldn’t help but sneer.

The Devil couldn’t deceive it because when the Consciousness Entity dispersed, what awaited them was only Nothingness, a place where even consciousness and life couldn’t reach.

This question, the Father Gods had already brought her the answer long ago.

"Hey kid, hey, I’m talking to you, are you listening?"

The Whisper in the mind suddenly got replaced by another voice, and "Dominate" abruptly opened her eyes; she almost reflexively took a deep breath, and then, for the first time in a long while, she felt the smell of air.

A Consciousness Entity has no need to breathe nor to establish too much contact with the outside world.

Immediately, she felt a cold sensation in her hand, all of which were incredibly foreign to "Dominate"; she found herself lying on a table, with snowflakes drifting outside the station, being yelled at by a burly man with a gun at his waist, surrounded by his companions.

"Hey, I was wondering why this kid looks so foolish; it’s no wonder her old man sold her to us for a few drinks’ worth of money."

Seeing her bewildered look, the man asked the others.

"You know nothing, she’s our cash cow."

The tavern at the station was filled with vulgarities, and the caravan leader took a swig of strong liquor to ward off the chill. He clicked his tongue and said, "I’ve already made contact with a buyer. The guy’s name is Chai Ke, said to have some connections with the Foster Family, he promised us this figure!"

As he spoke, he gestured a "5" with his hand to the crowd.

"Dominate" would never forget this scene.

They were on their way from the "outside world" to the United Government; she seemed to have dozed off on the table then as well, the first time she heard the voice of the Whisper.

However, now, the Whisper did not appear, she could only hear the clamorous shouting of the merchants, and all the memories that followed, including the scene of confronting the Devil in The First Region seemed like an incredibly real dream she had while lying on the table.

This time was already too far gone.

It was still the early days of the gold rush when countless merchants of the United Government came to the "outside world" like a swarm.

"Is it true or false?"

The burly man reached out to lift her from the chair.

"Don’t touch me."

"...Yes!"

"Dominate" just glanced at the man, and suddenly he felt guilty. His whole being deflated, and he knelt before "Dominate" in a posture that was extremely incongruous with his own image.

The decline in the intensity of the Spiritual Energy was not significant, at least not to the extent of regressing to the level of a child.

This also proved that everything she had just experienced had indeed happened, except, in the end, the Devil had asked her a question.

If you could travel, where would you want to go?

At this moment, "Dominate" suddenly had a clearer understanding of the question. The "place" the other party was referring to was not merely a specific location; it seemed a certain point in time should also be affixed in front of it.

Although she was prepared for what might come and had no intention of heeding any of the Devil’s seductive words, when she heard the question, a fleeting thought still involuntarily arose from the depths of her heart.

"What did I say? She’s our cash cow."

The caravan leader laughed heartily and said to "Dominate", "Young lady, you are a Psychic, we have no ill intentions towards you. Rather than living a lifetime in such a remote and backward place, why not use your abilities to see the world outside?"

"Dominate" remembered that she had then gone with the caravan to the United Government.

On one hand, it was because her abilities at the time were not strong enough to oppose a group of armed adults; on the other hand, the Whisper had told her that going to the United Government was her destiny.

But this time, there was no Whisper to tell her what fate was awaiting her in the future.

........................

Elsewhere, Song Lan stepped out of the room which had now emptied.

The entire corridor was shrouded in overgrown plants, and above their heads, the overwatching presence of a Holy Temple nestled amongst the clouds enveloped the city.

Just moments ago, he had resolved a historic leftover issue.

For him, these things were far more troublesome than the great war between humans and plants.

"It’s dead?"

The voice of δ suddenly echoed from the walls.

Compelled by some unseen force, it had followed and had witnessed the entire process of "Dominate" battling with the Devil. The storm of Spiritual Energy, which used herself as fuel, was so easily extinguished in its cradle.

From the beginning, it was a battle with a foregone conclusion.

Although its stance differed from "Dominate" now, having chosen to submit to the Devil, they were after all the same kind – people who had been guided by the Whisper.

"No," Song Lan said. "It just went to a better place."

"So it’s dead."

δ naturally took that answer as a euphemism for "death". It too knew that once a Consciousness Entity disintegrates, it would be utterly annihilated, and everything about "Dominate" would cease to exist in this world.

"This time I’m telling the truth."

Song Lan felt that δ, despite its child-like appearance and tone, seriously lacked imagination, "Haven’t you ever imagined that in places you can’t see, there might be other worlds existing?"
