Chapter 727: Chapter 725: Ghost Call_1

This was the second day that Yaku had undertaken his cultivation practice in the way of nourishing life.

He had noticed the anomaly in time, which ironically made his practice twice as effective.

He didn’t know how much stronger he had become, but since he had started his new regimen, every morning when he woke up, he felt his body was filled with infinite strength.

What delighted Yaku even more was that he was not alone on this path; ever since Sister Jasmine experienced the mysteries of the nourishing life practice, she had joined him, and while everyone else was discussing the abnormal flow of time, they were single-mindedly embarking on their practice, continuing until nightfall.

"Sister Jasmine, how do you feel?"

"I feel very good, but Sister must be ready to explode with anger at me right now."

Jasmine was well aware of her behavior, having already, inadvertently, spent an entire day dozing off in her computer chair yesterday.

She had missed another opportunity to meet with the "Emperor."

The Chairperson of the Council hoped she could use her relationship to establish contact with the "Emperor" and reveal the acts of the High-level Parliament to him, but δ was very much against her doing so, and a fierce argument had erupted between them the night before. After the meeting between the "Emperor" and the High-level Parliament, δ thought it would be tantamount to walking into a trap.

Jasmine had learned some secrets unknown to others from δ.

For example, more than half of the prisoners in the "prison" were sent there by the "Emperor"; he had escorted batches of criminals and was the only human they feared.

However, δ did not know the source of the "Emperor"’s obsession, only that he seemed to have never given up on studying them, apparently to find a way to completely eradicate them. The wounds on the "Emperor"’s body were all thanks to them.

But those fatal injuries did not kill the "Emperor"; instead, they made him stronger.

The more human parts of them were becoming fewer and fewer, with the missing parts of their bodies being replaced by prostheses until they gradually took on an appearance similar to that of robots.

Not just outwardly, all the internal organs of the "Emperor" had also been replaced.

δ was certain that once the other side found out about the relationship between Jasmine and itself, their camaraderie would cease to exist.

The plan of the Chairperson of the Council and the words of δ produced a severe conflict, and Jasmine didn’t know what to do for a while, so she took a middle-ground approach—pulling up a chair and basking in the sun all day. When she bathed in the sunlight, all the troubles indeed drifted away from her once again.

The "Emperor" was once a Psychic.

In theory, conceptual armament was the only compatible means for prosthesis and Spiritual Energy. In all other cases, Ability Users who tried to transplant combat prostheses into their bodies ended up as Cyber lunatics without exception. Only the "Emperor" was an exception. δ believed that there must be some secrets hidden in him that allowed him to pursue prosthesis modifications as extensively as "Wild Bone" while keeping such powerful Psychic Abilities.

Jasmine turned on her cell phone, which, unsurprisingly, showed more than a dozen missed calls.

Most were from her sister, but among the plethora of missed calls was one familiar name.

"Emperor."

He had called her this morning at ten, but at the time, she was in the midst of her practice and missed his call.

The "Emperor" had left a message; he never beat around the bush, hoping that Jasmine would explain the relationship between her and δ in person.

The second message came an hour later.

The "Emperor" told her hiding was futile, that he would eventually find her.

δ’s premonition had come true. Late at night, Jasmine felt a chill in her heart, being on the "Emperor"’s mind was not a fun matter, and she felt like one of those characters in ghost stories who had become the target of evil spirits.

Given the "Emperor"’s ability to appear and disappear unpredictably, perhaps he would suddenly show up at Galaxy Transport Company, walking in through the front door.

This thought sent shivers down Jasmine’s spine as she looked towards Yaku and asked, "What did the company say? Surely you weren’t foolish enough to tell them you were at Galaxy Transport Company, right?"

"Of course not! I’m not an idiot. The people from Military Intelligence Section Seven checked for me; they’ve disabled the tracking devices in my body," Yaku said.

After learning that there was a mole in the company, he never mentioned his location to the company again.

"But they did indeed hope for me to return to the company last night, they said the company had arranged a medical team specially for me, and even processed a platinum package worth 450,000 watts for me."

"What did you say?"

"I ignored them."

"That’s good."

Jasmine breathed a sigh of relief.

"Is the ’Emperor’ really that terrifying that even you, Sister Jasmine, are afraid of him?"

Yaku had just glanced at Jasmine’s phone screen and noticed the change in her expression; he had never seen her like this before.

"Persistent people are always frightening."

The "Emperor" was determined to eradicate δ and its kind; anyone who came into contact with them would become his enemy, and he was as cold as winter towards his enemies. "I don’t know if it’s due to the influence of the prostheses, but his way of doing things has become increasingly similar to ’Wild Bone’."

Even if the other party was an innocent civilian being controlled or influenced, the "Emperor" wouldn’t hesitate to mercilessly strike them down.

As the chief physician, Jasmine had witnessed the process of the "Emperor" transforming from a human into a killing machine; the more his human parts were missing, the more pronounced this sign became.

She recalled a prosthesis scholarly magazine she had read before, which proposed a theory that when people chose to use prostheses, their way of thinking began to change from that very moment; even without becoming cybernetically insane, they would no longer be able to think like a true human being.

However, the author of this theory was ultimately arrested and imprisoned on charges of "spreading improper remarks" and "bewitching people with heresy," and afterward, there was no more news of him.

Jasmine’s depiction was vivid and expressive.

Among the many Six Stars rescuers, "Wild Bone" was definitely the most infamous one, but not because of heroic deeds; rather, it was because wherever he went, nothing remained alive, and he had even gone so far as to destroy a city to kill members of the Rebel Army.

Even his peers couldn’t help but feel privately that "Wild Bone" had reached a state of insanity.

"Then... Sister Jasmine, do you think if he comes after us, the two of us together stand a chance against him?"

Individual power has limits, so the wise elders created the scientifically effective tactic of group combat.

"No."

Jasmine’s answer was blunt, "The two of us together, it’s no different from just me alone."

A person who gets taken out in an instant is unlikely to be counted as an effective fighting force.

"Sister Jasmine, don’t judge the current me with your past perspective; I have been completely transformed."

"I’m serious, I’m not joking with you."

Jasmine’s expression was solemn, with no intention of mocking Yaku. "If you really encounter him, do not engage, that’s the only way you might survive."

The vibration of the cellphone interrupted their conversation.

A familiar name appeared on the screen.

A full day had passed since the last text message.

But the "Emperor" hadn’t given up just because of her cold violence from not responding to his messages. The content of the text was concise, yet it sent chills down Jasmine’s spine:

"I’m right downstairs at the company now, come down."
