Chapter 688: Chapter 687: The Rift in Time_1

It worked...

It worked!

"Dominate" looked up at the sky of this world, its gaze penetrating through the leaves and buds, seeing the projection from the real world. Right now, the plants spreading into another world were acting as the "eyes of God," reflecting all they saw onto the sky of this world.

It witnessed insects exploding simultaneously, the psychic bombs powerful enough to trigger an unprecedented psychic storm, with their numbers sufficient to turn one-third of The First Region into ruins.

By utilizing those plants, it didn’t need to show itself at all, able to transport highly destructive psychic bombs to every corner of the real world at any time. And with those insects, akin to a suicide squad, it would no longer need to use its powers to twist the minds of others.

As long as their powers were combined, they were invincible!

"When time is shaved away, only the outcome remains in this world."

The voice of the Old Tree came again from above the clouds, "But, what has occurred cannot be stopped."

No matter how long the opponent could remain in the crevices of time or whether they could avoid the psychic storm within those crevices, everything within the coverage of the psychic storm would be utterly destroyed. Upon the next leap in time, all that would remain would be ruins turned to dust.

"Dominate" couldn’t help but regard the Old Tree with newfound respect after devising this tactic once it understood the Devil’s abilities. There was no power in this world without a vulnerability.

It was hard to imagine an Old Tree thinking in the way humans do; it was almost like... a real Psychic.

"The psychic storm hasn’t stopped; he has given up."

"Dominate" looked at the psychic storm sweeping across the entire block in the sky, revealing a satisfied smile. It had become more adept in using its powers compared to the last time, and in its understanding, nothing was more destructive than a psychic storm.

In the midst of the storm, nothing could hide, not even a Consciousness Entity.

That was the only means to kill them.

"Zoom in the camera a bit, I want to see the expressions on their faces."

For those in the very center of the storm, this was the scene of the apocalypse’s arrival, and The First Region was precisely where it desired to bring destruction most. However, the last time, due to Military Intelligence Section Seven’s encirclement and blockade, it ultimately failed to realize its wish to level The First Region.

The Old Tree fulfilled its request.

Soon, "Dominate" saw the people inside the buildings. Faced with the sudden apocalypse, they had even forgotten to run away, except for that clown-like Six Stars candidate, who, dragging his battered body, used his abilities as a stepping stone to carve out an aerial path for them and the Chairperson of the Council.

But how could human legs beat the spread of the storm?

In the blink of an eye, the wild and disorderly psychic storm completely engulfed their bodies, followed by buildings and houses. Everything the United Government was proud of crumbled under the storm’s baptism.

In the face of the apocalypse, humans were ultimately too insignificant.

Their struggles and shouts could not change their fate.

Then, "Dominate" saw a car only a block away from the company.

On it, it saw some familiar faces.

Rose, Jasmine.

They were supposed to be gifts to Father God.

That meant δ must be nearby. "Dominate" speculated their desperate hearts with malicious intent. They must deeply regret not offering themselves to Father God when they were at the consortium, so they wouldn’t have faced the end of being torn apart by the psychic storm.

It saw the people in the car give up on running away. Jasmine got out of the car, looking up at the sky torn by psychic energies.

Following that, she was pulled into the storm.

It’s over!

"The Chairperson is dead. Let’s proceed with the plan to the next... Huh?"

"Dominate" paused suddenly because it seemed to see something strange at the center of the storm.

Jasmine, who should have been torn apart by the psychic energies, still stood there unharmed. Even she seemed shocked by what was happening to her, an incredulous look on her face as she touched the traces left by the storm with her outstretched hands.

"Is this her ability?"

"Dominate" muttered to itself. During the previous encounter with δ at the consortium, the opponent had also escaped by using a perplexing ability, and even the research institutions that had nurtured their Psychic Abilities couldn’t provide an accurate definition of Jasmine’s capabilities.

"No, something’s not right."

Its complexion grew grimmer as it gradually realized that Jasmine wasn’t the only one intact within the psychic storm.

The car next to her, the people inside it who were clearly at the epicenter of the psychic storm, remained unaffected. Not only that but the skyscrapers that should have been destroyed still stood tall.

This psychic storm that had enveloped one-third of a city... hadn’t brought any tangible destruction at all!?

Was it dreaming?

Was it a hallucination before my very eyes?

The bodyguard, right in the epicenter of the explosion, witnessed every detail before his consciousness plunged into darkness.

The insects that had crawled all over his body detonated at the same time, but in that instant of explosion, his body seemed to undergo some kind of incredible transformation.

He saw the insects, as if losing their foothold, fall from his body at the same time.

As they fell, they passed straight through his arms and body, as if he no longer existed in this world.

This formidable psychic storm lasted a full ten minutes.

When the fissure in the sky disappeared and everything returned to normal, Yaku and the others had already escaped to the rooftop of the building opposite the company.

"What... exactly happened?"

After stopping, he looked down at his hands. When the spreading storm caught up with him, he thought he was done for, but he didn’t feel the pain he had anticipated. The shockwave from the psychic energy passed right through their bodies, and the feeling was like wearing 3D glasses in a movie theater, witnessing a pretty cool special effect.

"No need to be nervous, you’re safe now."

A familiar figure appeared out of thin air beside them, "This is a rift in time."

As he spoke, a vulture flew towards them, and upon releasing its grip, the unconscious bodyguard fell to the ground.

The psychic storm in the real world wasn’t enough to penetrate the rift in time.

"Rob Lucci."

The Chairperson of the Council looked at Song Lan. He had never imagined he would meet the other person this way. When he heard about the misfortune of the Iris Consortium, he immediately had a plan in mind. Using his power, he bypassed the Review Meeting and approved this department, which didn’t officially exist within Military Intelligence Section Seven.

Because he knew that no one in this world simply appeared out of thin air.

After linking a series of events that had occurred in The First Region and considering the subtle relationship with the Ragus Foundation, he had his answer.

It was astonishing that the man, once deemed by the Conservative Faction led by the Foster Family as the number one enemy of the United Government, turned out to be their rescuer from the aftermath of the explosion.

"The encounters between people are truly incredible."

"It’s a coincidence; I think so too," Song Lan said.

He needed to thank his encounter with Jasmine. The moment he touched Rose while activating his abilities at the Iris Consortium, he suddenly had a new understanding of his own powers.

The process was not about him changing, but about him temporarily leaving the real world and entering a rift in time. The reason why the researchers at the psychic institution couldn’t understand Jasmine’s abilities was that the concept of "rift" was not in their minds.

Jasmine’s real ability was to temporarily transport anything she touched to this place.

So, all he needed to do before the psychic storm formed was to transfer the entire First Region into the "rift." No matter what plot "Dominate" had prepared, it couldn’t truly reach them.

"Hold on a second."

Yaku gestured for a pause, trying to grasp the concept Song Lan had mentioned, "Are you saying you transported us to another space, and that’s how we dodged the explosion just now?"

"You could say that," Song Lan replied.

"I want to confirm something, you’re referring to these city blocks?"

Yaku looked around. The impressive storm hadn’t even left a scratch on the buildings.

He speculated that the "coverage" of the other’s abilities must be rated "extremely high."

The stark contrast left him speechless—for while he had risked everything, cleverly using his abilities to pave an aerial pathway for the Chairperson of the Council, Song Lan had already hidden several blocks within the rift of time. By comparison, he felt like his efforts were quite insignificant.

Song Lan noticed the change in Yaku’s expression and decided not to continue the topic of abilities.

"Let’s go back first," he suggested.

He had a premonition that this assassination was just the beginning. Since the Secretary-General dared to take substantial action and even used his backend access to incapacitate the Chairperson’s personal bodyguard, it showed that they had come with the intent to stage a coup.

When they got back into the car, the news broadcast by the car’s system indicated their current predicament.

Mournful music filled the car, followed by the sad voice of the Secretary-General.

Less than five minutes after the explosion occurred, the Secretariat convened an emergency press conference and eagerly broadcast the news of the Chairperson’s death to the media.

He condemned the attackers and remembered the contributions made by the Chairperson to the United Government.

By the end of the press conference, he revealed his fangs, claiming that the Council had entered an emergency state. They would convene a meeting that afternoon to set up a temporary High-level Parliament that would assume full authority of the United Government’s decisions until the election of the next Chairperson was complete.
