Chapter 673: Chapter 673: Troublemaker_1
A moment later, after tidying up the room, Jasmine knocked on Song Lan’s door.
On the plane, she had proudly claimed she would take several people to visit some of the sturdy friends she’d made over the years.
"The person I’m going to introduce you to is a very remarkable individual. He was already a Six Stars candidate when I first joined the rescuer department, and there’s no one among the candidates now with seniority over him," Jasmine said as she walked.
Every visit to The First Region in the past, she made sure to call upon this senior.
"But didn’t you say on the plane that most of the candidates from your batch had basically all been promoted to Six Stars rescuers?"
Song Lan raised the question.
"Except for him. He’s not interested in being promoted to a Six Stars rescuer, and the Review Meeting is also reluctant to advance him," Jasmine said.
At that time, it was when the United Government’s order was most chaotic. The main occupation of a Six Stars rescuer was to rush about dealing with super criminals like those of the δ level, surviving by the edge of the blade was no exaggeration.
If she had to choose the one most valued by the Review Meeting from among the many rescuers, it would undoubtedly be this person.
She asked mysteriously, "Have you heard of divination?"
"We have."
"His ability is related to that. Wait till we get there, and you’ll see."
.................
Meanwhile, at a certain location in The First Region.
An elderly man with graying hair waited quietly at a table, across from him, a middle-aged man with a scruffy beard, nearly fifty, reeked of alcohol yet had bright, lively eyes.
The silence lasted nearly a minute before the middle-aged man suddenly spoke, "Though the path ahead is perilous, this time you will turn calamity into fortune. It seems you’ve made a wise decision."
The old man nodded.
He stood up and, without leaving many words behind, it was the middle-aged man who curiously asked, "However, this doesn’t seem like your style."
"My style?"
The old man’s footsteps faltered.
"I’ve been in The First Region for so many years, yet this is the first time you’ve come to see me."
"I just finished a meeting today. I happened to be passing by, so I thought I’d come and see," the old man said nonchalantly as he walked away without looking back.
The middle-aged man watched the other’s retreating figure until the room quieted down for quite a while, only then did he pull out a bottle of liquor from under the table and take a fierce swig.
Seeing the situation inside, the fearful assistant waiting at the door entered with a gloomy face, her voice trembling with a sobbing tone, "Boss, are you really not going to go downstairs and take a look? That tricky guest is getting impatient; he’s about to start a fight with the security!"
"I’m not going down, not going down, don’t you see I’m drinking here?"
The middle-aged man waved his hand impatiently, "You handle the things downstairs."
"But boss—!"
"Go away, stop bothering me!"
After the despairing assistant left, the impatient expression on the middle-aged man’s face disappeared, replaced by gloom and gravity.
It seemed that the United Government was truly in a dire situation.
Although he was never concerned with politics, the recent news had been actively making its way into his ears, one after another. First, there was an unprecedented defeat in an expedition, followed by the annihilation of the Morger Family’s forces, and just the other day, there was a major problem in The Second Region.
In such tumultuous times, the Review Meeting hoped the candidates would fill the vacancies of Wild Bone and Yinbo as soon as possible. He had received a summon from the Review Meeting, and just as he was about to ignore it as he always did, the Chairperson of the Council himself came for a visit.
Even though the Chairperson only asked him to give a divination for himself, this abnormal behavior also indirectly showed the current state of the Review Meeting. Even in those years when the mortality rate of Six Stars rescuers was high, the Chairperson had never worried about his "future."
So, after learning of this series of bad news, the middle-aged man made an immediate decision...
He resolved to get thoroughly drunk today, to empty his mind, and to push all troublesome matters to the back of his mind – that was his way of dealing with the world.
As long as he got drunk fast enough, anxiety could never catch up with him.
But obviously, the tricky guest downstairs didn’t want to let him drown his sorrows in peace – not long after the assistant went down, there was a commotion strong enough to shake the ground, rendering his half bottle of hastily swallowed booze totally ineffective.
The middle-aged man’s grim gaze swept over the slightly ajar door of his office.
For those who dare to make trouble on his turf, he had to take matters into his own hands.
At this thought, a deadly chill appeared in the middle-aged man’s eyes. He picked up the bottle and walked to the office door, coldly producing a weapon he had prepared long ago.
It was a sign that read "No one inside."
After hanging the sign on the doorknob, the man personally shut and locked the office door before finally deflating back into his recliner, tilting his head back and pouring the rest of the strong liquor into his stomach.
Downstairs.
"Where’s the boss?"
The Security Captain anxiously asked as he saw the assistant come downstairs. The security staff sent to stop the troublemakers had been defeated in an instant, and among the uninvited guests, he recognized several familiar faces.
"The boss has gotten drunk again."
Sorrow filled the assistant’s tone. She resignedly walked out from the back, facing the troublemakers who had thrown the store into chaos, "Please stop, the boss isn’t in the shop today!"
"Nonsense, where could he hide?"
"... It was the Review Meeting, the Review Meeting called the boss away!"
The assistant slapped her forehead and casually fabricated a lie.
"We were sent here from the Review Meeting."
"Huh? Ahahaha, what a coincidence."
"I know your boss is upstairs, hurry up and call him down, we’ll leave as soon as we’ve asked our questions."
The youth who was causing trouble let go, and the security guard he had been holding up slipped to the ground.
Even though the security guard looked disheveled, and the customers in the store had ducked into corners holding their heads, there were actually no casualties. The assistant observed that at least half of these security personnel lying on the ground were faking it.
These people, getting paid and completely unreliable when it matters!
Seeing that the troublemaker was impervious to reason, the assistant took a deep breath, tried her best to look fierce, and said menacingly, "Please leave, or even I don’t know what’s going to happen if you keep causing trouble in the store!"
Her small stature, combined with her immature tone, made this threat sound not at all intimidating but rather adorable.
"Well, come on over then."
Instead of taking even half a step back, the young man crossed his arms and looked down at the assistant with a condescending attitude.
"Yah—! This is outrageous!"
The assistant yelled angrily, and her sleeves suddenly lengthened, sweeping towards the youth like two ribbons. The disheveled security personnel seemed energized by this, cheering for the assistant in their hearts.
Unfortunately, the exhilarating scene did not last long. When the two ribbons approached the youth, they hit an invisible wall, reversed direction, and folded back toward the assistant at even greater speed.
Facing this sudden turn of events, she skillfully closed her eyes, hugged her head, and curled into a ball under everyone’s gaze.
This is it?
Even the troublemaking youth was stunned in place.
He had expected a powerful finishing move after the stern warning, but the attack was not much stronger than the effort of the store’s security guards.
No matter what, this young woman was someone close to the boss; she shouldn’t be this weak.
But then he heard an unusual noise.
It sounded like electrical arcs zipping past his ears, and when he glanced toward the source of the noise out of the corner of his eye, a figure accompanied by electrical arcs had already reached his side.
This time, the invisible wall could no longer deflect the attacks.
His chin, abdomen, and chest were hit at the same time, causing him to be momentarily dazed. When he came to, he found himself lying flat on the cold floor, with a woman in light armor looking at him sternly, her knight’s sword nearly grazing his cheek as it embedded into the floor.
This sudden turn of events plunged the store into dead silence.
Even the other troublemakers who had come to the store with him were rooted to the spot.
The assistant’s two long ribbons floated in midair for quite a while before landing gently on the back of her head.
"Ouch!"
Her exclamation brought people back to their senses.
The scene just moments ago happened so quickly that most people did not catch how the woman had appeared.
"Ho, hoho, I already warned you, if you continue to misbehave in the store, you would encounter..."
The woman glanced at her with a nonchalant look.
The assistant immediately became like a frog being stared at by a snake, quickly correcting herself, "I’m sorry!"
After the sincere apology, she bowed deeply to the other party, then once again closed her eyes, hugged her head, and curled back into a ball. The ribbons wrapped her in layers, as if forming a barrier between her and the world.
"Sister, you scared the child!"
Jasmine’s voice came belatedly.
She and Lu Xiang had rushed over as fast as they could, but Sister’s speed was just too fast; in the blink of an eye, she had crossed the distance of two streets.
As for Song Lan...
He was still a block away, waiting for the traffic light.
"This store was dealing with a robbery."
Rose said coldly.
The very moment her sleeve-turned-ribbons were deflected, she had realized the robber must be a Psychic.
What she had not expected was that someone would attempt a robbery at such an inopportune time, in a store belonging to a Six Stars candidate.
"You’re mistaken, he’s probably not a robber."
Jasmine approached the youth lying on the ground, unwilling to move, "Well, are you scared silly now?"
"You know each other?"
"Oh, let me introduce him to you, I call him Yaku, I freeloaded a meal at his place three times before, and he’s also a Six Stars candidate."
After saying this, she turned to the youth on the floor with an innocently bright smile, "Yaku, this is my sister. You must remember her, right? I told you before that if she found out you tried to flirt with me the first time we met, you would be dead."
The next moment, the store was utterly silent.
The youth could feel the blade touching his cheek seemed to have moved slightly closer to his neck.
"Sister Jasmine..."
He said hesitantly, avoiding Rose’s gaze, "I think, let’s let bygones be bygones."
