Chapter 646: Chapter 646: The Third Victim_1
Song Lan firmly believed that there were more good people in the world than bad ones.
After he reported the Scarlet Lord by name, the Female Knight who called herself "Rose" believed and inquired about many details, and would also suddenly stop him halfway to recount the details he had mentioned, or sometimes had him narrate the entire event in reverse.
Song Lan had no fear of random checks, since everything he had just said was the truth.
He detailed every aspect of how the Scarlet Lord had dragged him from his bed in the middle of the night and coerced him at the Knight Group headquarters.
However, what interested him more was the title of the Female Knight.
The floral name inevitably reminded him of another Six Stars rescuer he knew, and when he entertained this thought, he found that Rose bore a resemblance to Jasmine.
If they knew each other or had a closer relationship, it would seem to explain the connection between Jasmine and the Iris Consortium.
After several rounds of checks, Rose finally was persuaded by Song Lan’s words.
"But you can’t provide any evidence."
The Scarlet Lord had specifically chosen the dead of night to haul Song Lan back to headquarters, and there he didn’t leave any clues that could point to him.
This was different from usual accusations.
Poisoning the meals of the lady and young missus was an unforgivable act; they needed ample evidence to convict a lord of a Knight Group.
It was foreseeable that the Scarlet Lord would deny everything, and his family would continue to support him from the shadows.
Even if the Neutral Country chef named Rob Lucci was willing to testify against the other party in the Tribunal, it would ultimately be considered hearsay.
"You can trust Rob Lucci, he never lies!"
Yeying, seeing Rose hesitate, jumped onto Song Lan’s shoulder and vouched for him.
"I believe you," Rose said, looking deeply at Song Lan. "From now on, their family will surely try to get rid of you. I promise to take you to a safe place."
During her conversation with Song Lan, Rose also confirmed another matter.
He genuinely knew nothing about the attack on the Head Maid, and from the current evidence they had, it was very likely that the attacker was someone familiar to her, someone who could make her let her guard down.
This was the darkness before dawn.
The phrase could describe the color of the sky outside the window at that moment, as well as the internal political struggles of the Iris Consortium.
Before Rose could take concrete action, a third attack occurred.
When she heard the name of the attack victim, her pupils constricted sharply, and she immediately told Song Lan to get ready and follow her to the Consortium’s prosthetic hospital.
Franthing Monk.
To everyone’s surprise, the future heir of the Monk Family became the first victim in this political infighting within the Consortium.
However, when she arrived at the hospital, the situation was very strange.
The attacked Young Master Franthing was still conscious, and there were no obvious wounds on his body.
He just kept holding his buttocks, and the moment he saw Song Lan, his eyes almost shot out flames.
"Catch him, it’s him, the one who dared to poison the food!"
All night, Franthing suffered immense pain.
He had gone to the restroom over a dozen times, feeling as if his entire backside were ignited by flames, yet due to the dignity of the aristocrats, he could not disclose his true symptoms to anyone other than the doctor.
Seeing the knights of the Monk Family’s Personal Guard preparing to step forward and seize Song Lan, Rose stepped up to block between the two parties.
At the same time, she scrutinized Song Lan with a stern look in her eyes, expecting him to give a sufficient reason.
"This seems... to actually be my doing."
Honest man Song Lan guiltily raised his hand in front of everyone, admitting his "crime."
"You poisoned the food of the Monk Family’s future heir?"
Rose specifically emphasized Franthing’s status, making Song Lan realize the seriousness of the accusation. If the crime of poisoning an aristocrat were proven, he would face the outcome of being sent to the guillotine and executed publicly.
"It’s not poison. The symptoms are just a normal physiological reaction, commonly known as ’eating too much spice.’
Standing around ten meters apart from Franthing, he cautiously asked, "Did you eat the spice skins in the dish?"
"I don’t understand what you’re talking about!"
"The dark red, shiny seasonings."
"I ate them, what of it?"
Franthing, although holding his backside, spoke with stubborn pride, a sensation entirely different from the delicious dishes he had tasted before. He experienced an unprecedented thrill from these ingredients.
Each time he chewed on those items referred to as spice skins, he felt a mix of pain and exhilaration.
But what he absolutely hadn’t anticipated was that this behavior would end up setting his backside ablaze.
"Actually, those are meant for flavoring, not eating."
"Then why didn’t you tell me that at the time!?"
"You didn’t give me a chance to speak then..."
Their conversation made Rose’s head buzz, and even though she didn’t know what exactly spice skins were, she understood from the exchange that Franthing Monk hadn’t been attacked but had mistakenly consumed a seasoning in the food.
In the backdrop of the major families’ overt and covert struggles for power, a nincompoop like this, who hospitalized himself by eating something wrong, simply didn’t fit in with the atmosphere of the castle.
Rose admitted that calling the future heir of the Monk Family a "nincompoop" was somewhat improper, but at the moment she could think of no other word to describe Franthing’s actions.
Just then, a slender figure wearing a white nano bodysuit emerged from the doors of the prosthetic hospital, smoothing things over between the two sides, "Your symptoms are not serious; you just need to go back and sleep it off."
Franthing Monk seemed wanting to say more, but when he saw Rose standing between them, he snorted coldly and walked toward the outside of the hospital with his Personal Guard.
However, from his unnatural gait and occasional attempts to cover his backside, one could tell he was still in great discomfort.
"Jasmine, I’ll leave this man in your care for now; I have some matters to investigate."
After Franthing left, Rose handed Song Lan over to Jasmine.
It seemed that at this moment, Jasmine was perhaps the only one who could ensure his safety.
She had to admire him; on his first day with the Consortium, he had become a thorn in the side of two families.
But before leaving, she felt it was necessary to warn Song Lan, "You mentioned earlier that the lady and young miss asked you to prepare lunch for them, that thing called spice skin, don’t put so much next time."
If Song Lan were to hospitalize the lady and young miss as well, especially in such... an indecorous fashion, even the Six Stars rescuer might not be able to save him then.
