Chapter 641: Chapter 641: Fantastic Beasts are Here_1

After finalizing the menu and following the Personal Guard into the interior of the castle, the sky had completely darkened.

Song Lan had wanted to take a good look at the residence of the United Government’s largest consortium, but things didn’t go as planned. After leaving the restaurant and getting into the car, his eyes were blindfolded, and by the time he got off and heard the door opening, he had arrived at the consortium’s dedicated kitchen entrance. The behavior of the Personal Guard, rather than leading the way, seemed more like they were escorting a prisoner.

Song Lan didn’t even get to wait too long at the door before a stern Knight "invited" him into the kitchen.

The one responsible for welcoming him in the kitchen was a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl who appeared to be just over twenty. She was dressed in a signature maid uniform and wore a pair of slightly tacky, black-framed glasses on her nose. As Song Lan entered, she looked him up and down with a curious gaze.

Unexpectedly, the Personal Guard Knight didn’t follow him in this time and comfortably handed Song Lan over to the maid.

"You’re the 13th one."

While leading the way, she whispered to Song Lan.

"The 13th what?"

"The 13th chef to be brought here, of course. Hope you’re mentally prepared; all the others who came for the job failed."

"Failed?"

Song Lan followed the maid into the back kitchen and asked nonchalantly, "What happened to them then?"

Upon hearing this, the Head Maid walking in front suddenly stopped.

The smile on her face changed, and she emitted a creepy aura from head to toe.

"The Miss has a pet dog in the back courtyard, hmmm, not quite like the dogs you imagine, much larger. Not only is it quite difficult to clean, but its daily food intake is astonishingly large... The chefs who failed before, they’re probably all gathered in its stomach by now."

What dark culinary world!

No, even the dark culinary world wouldn’t mete out such harsh punishment on failed chefs!

"Pff, you really believed it, huh?"

Seeing Song Lan’s serious expression, the maid covered her mouth and giggled, returning to the lively and cheerful appearance she had initially, "Of course, those who failed were sent back home. We still give them their severance pay... But looking at your reaction just now, you must really believe the Miss would do such a thing, right?"

Faced with the maid’s questioning, Song Lan could only respond with an awkward smile.

In just a few sentences, he was certain of one thing: this maid, who appeared to be about his age, was definitely scheming.

He indeed believed that Isabella was capable of such a thing, so he had already been seriously pondering another matter in his mind—whether Yeying could manage to eat the giant pet dog the maid described.

"Alright, let’s start preparing the ingredients, I’ll be your assistant,"

The maid efficiently picked up a kitchen knife and then reached out her smooth, delicate hand towards the claws of Yeying resting on Song Lan’s shoulder.

"What are you doing, what do you want to do?!"

Yeying, feeling a chill, immediately flapped its wings and squawked at the maid.

"Oh, the ingredients are talking!"

The maid also stopped in surprise, her eyes widened as she stared at the strange bird on Song Lan’s shoulder.

"She is not an ingredient but an important friend and assistant to me."

Song Lan took a step back, increasing the distance between himself and the maid. Given her actions just now, he genuinely believed she might chop Yeying with a knife.

"Yes, I am indeed the most valuable assistant of this master chef!"

Yeying also proudly puffed up its chest and introduced itself with pride.

"Where did you catch her? I’ve never seen a bird that can talk!"

"This was a fateful encounter, one day when I was searching for precious ingredients in the harsh desert, I was attacked by a Death God Crab. I lost my nutritional injections and water bottle while fleeing. I thought I was going to die in the desert, but when I lay on the ground, consciousness dissipating, she appeared before me and led me to a nearby village."

Song Lan fully exercised his gift of gab.

"Eh? Was I really that amazing?"

Yeying muttered to herself in confusion, feeling the inquisitive gaze of the maid. She stared back defiantly, emboldened by Song Lan’s support and fearing nothing. If a fight broke out, she was determined to bite the other hard, "Yes, I am that amazing, you better not mess with me!"

Her fierce threat, however, amused the maid. She slowed down her movements, putting down the knife in front of Yeying and smiled gently, "I’m sorry, I was mistaken just now. But I have never heard of such a magical little animal existing in this world."

The atmosphere of the conversation relaxed.

However, Song Lan was well aware that things were not as simple as they seemed on the surface. A lively and cute girl could not become a maid in charge of Isabella’s diet, and Ms. Kalida’s Personal Guard would not have handed him over to her so trustingly.

These seemingly peaceful conversations were likely all designed by the other party.

The goal was to probe Yeying’s background.

But who was he, Song Lan? He had already thought of countermeasures.

"Later, when I returned home, I searched for a lot of information about her. Before the Third War, there was a bird species called parrots that could mimic human language. I guess she must be a mutated variant of parrots."

In the year 2167, mutated animals were varied and strange. It was possible that one day parrots might mutate into a new species capable of understanding human language.

"I have heard of parrots before."

The maid nodded thoughtfully, "But she seems much more dangerous than the parrots I remember. Her appearance is more akin to eagles and vultures."

"You can rest assured, her temper is very good, she has never hurt anyone on her own initiative."

The maid’s smile remained on her face, but her gaze lingered on Yeying, as if mulling over something.

About thirty seconds later, she chose to compromise, saying, "I believe you, but for safety considerations, she cannot leave this kitchen or approach any family member."

"Hear that? You have to stay quietly in this room and not go wandering about."

Song Lan petted Yeying’s head, and Yeying, human-like, spread out one wing in front of herself and Song Lan, and started "whispering" conspicuously so that the maid could hear, "I think they don’t welcome us here, maybe we should just go back. The head chef was much nicer, never looked down on us!"

"You misunderstand, this is all for safety."

The maid stepped forward and spoke proactively, "If you can provide dishes that satisfy Miss Isabella, the consortium will do everything possible to meet all your requests."

The way Song Lan and Yeying were whispering seemed comical to her, reminiscent of someone just arrived in the big city from the countryside of Neutral Country.

Her guard was lowered and the urge to chat with the human-bird pair about interesting anecdotes from Neutral Country grew.

But her duties held her back from doing so.

At this very moment, Miss Isabella was waiting for them. She genuinely hoped they would make Miss Isabella happy so they could stay here for a long time.

"I have looked over the menu you provided, all the ingredients are ready. If there are any questions, feel free to ask."

"Alright, then I will begin."

"Oh, I haven’t asked for your name yet."

"Lucky, Rob Lucci."

Song Lan said calmly, "That’s my name, what about you?"

"Just like the others, you can call me Head Maid."
