Chapter 628: Chapter 628: No Crime Scene_1
The bodies did indeed suddenly burst open before them.
Lu Xiang still remembered how, when Mendoza turned into a splatter of blossoming blood mist, a sinister smile clung to his face—perhaps he hadn’t realized the fact that he was already dead until his head rolled to the ground.
It was the same for the Morger family assassins.
She suddenly recalled when she led her people into the kidnapping scene a few months earlier when Chai Ke and Angel Foster’s bodies had fallen in such an abrupt manner.
However, this was in keeping with Song Lan’s usual code of conduct: he rarely made his move, but once he did, he left no room for escape.
"This is the Sea-Land Energy Company; cleaning up the scene won’t be easy."
After a brief moment of bewilderment, Lu Xiang had already started to think about how to deal with the mess before her— in the blink of an eye, a dozen or so people were dead, including the Morger family’s current patriarch’s second son. And with Ferren Morger’s submission of his personal protection clause to the family headquarters, she and Sector Seventeen would probably never be able to extricate themselves from this incident again.
This time, even the experienced Lu Xiang couldn’t figure out how to make the bodies filling the room disappear.
The only good news might be that Mendoza Morger had dismissed all irrelevant parties in advance for this dinner, buying them some time.
"There’s no crime scene."
Just as Lu Xiang hesitated whether or not to call Old Sa to handle the aftermath, Song Lan suddenly stood up, straightening his tie.
The suit was her choice, and by now the white shirt underneath was already dyed red with blood.
But his tone sounded calmer than ever, different from Song Lan’s usual way of speaking. She suddenly remembered the night Dorago Safron died, the way Song Lan had spoken on the phone was like this too.
"Let’s go home."
Song Lan walked over to the door Ferren Morger had locked, simply resting his hand on the handle; the whole security door before him disintegrated into dust at a visibly rapid speed.
Ferren, waiting outside the door, was stunned for a long while before he saw Song Lan’s white shirt stained red with blood and tried to exhibit a panic-stricken appearance.
He had always waited at the door, seemingly eager to hear screams from the banquet hall.
Because Mendoza Morger was ruthless, perhaps even one of the most heartless people in the world. The mayor he had previously summoned also initially displayed a defiant attitude, but after negotiations, he ended up calling Lu Xiang.
Song Lan, approaching Ferren, turned slightly to the side, allowing the other man to see the inside of the private banquet hall more clearly.
"Their bodies burst open suddenly; we suspect the presence of a psychic ability user, maybe you’re next."
When Song Lan patted his shoulder, Ferren had already prepared himself for death, deciding to muddle through by means of dying.
But when he saw the room full of bodies, he knew that the mission given to him by his clan was accomplished.
Whether it was Song Lan or Mendoza Morger who died in the banquet hall, they would emerge as the ultimate winner.
"The Morger family will not let this go."
Ferren decided to follow the actions of the body he was in, glaring venomously at Song Lan.
"I know,"
Song Lan nodded, "but this is Sector Seventeen."
Ferren closed his eyes, wanting to make his death appear more heroic.
But the pressure on his shoulder vanished, and the sounds of footsteps gradually retreated. Time ticked by, second by second; he carefully checked every corner of his body, only to find that every part was intact.
About a few minutes later, the sound of footsteps disappeared altogether.
Ferren finally opened his eyes, turned around, and found that the elevator the two had taken reached the top floor. He hurried to the window, just in time to see the hover car leaving the company rooftop.
Why?
Ferren was full of doubt.
Fortunately, they inherently lacked the complex emotional system of humans, which helped them make the most rational judgment in the face of sudden situations. Now, it had to report everything that happened here back to its clan.
Ferren didn’t know what had happened, but this might be the last thing it could do for its clan.
It dialed the familiar number, and after the phone rang for more than a dozen times, it was finally picked up—a considerably long duration for it at that moment.
"Mendoza Morger is dead,"
"Hello?"
"The Morger Family will not let this go,"
"Hello?"
The voice from the other end of the phone once again plunged Ferren into confusion, as if the person had completely not heard everything it reported.
Then, even the voice disappeared.
Ferren finally sensed something was amiss—when it looked at its own phone, it discovered that the entire screen was dissolving and vanishing at a visibily rapid pace.
Although it immediately threw away the phone, it couldn’t stop the dissolution from spreading.
First its fingers, then swiftly from its forearm to its body.
The body of Ferren Morger could no longer bear the process of annihilation, and worms crawled out of its gaping mouth, falling onto the ground.
But even the floor was not safe.
The ground beneath it began to crumble and disintegrate too, spreading like a plague. Everything it could see was turning into dust under the sweep of this epidemic, including Mendoza Morger and those family assassins, with the bloody room being wiped clean of all traces, everything as if it had never existed.
There was no noise or boom, nor any violent shaking.
Then, the silence completely engulfed it.
Meanwhile, Lu Xiang in the hover car finally understood what Song Lan meant by "no crime scene."
What Song Lan said was meant literally.
From this angle, she could perfectly witness the process of Sea-Land Energy Company’s building being annihilated bit by bit.
The whole process lasted nearly two minutes. When people in the distance noticed something strange, only half of the imposing building remained. Some people pulled out their phones, while others rushed over immediately.
But the running people encountered void. As they arrived at the scene panting, all they found was an empty plot of land.
"This... was the Sea-Land Energy Company, right?"
They confirmed with each other in disbelief, to ensure that what they were seeing wasn’t a hallucination induced by being drunk.
Then, people came to a conclusion.
The Sea-Land Energy Company had disappeared.
Right before their eyes, in an inconceivable manner, it turned to dust, and even the remnants quickly vanished into the night sky.
Without making any sound, leaving any trace, as if it had never existed.
