Chapter 579: Chapter 579: The Villain Dies from Talking Too Much_1
Although it seemed unforgivable for the Chief Judge of the Church to entertain such thoughts, Aige finally breathed a sigh of relief when Barrosa Group’s reinforcements arrived.
He did not directly answer the other party’s question, but said, "She is one of Helifis’s favorites."
"You dare to call the Archbishop by her name, you traitor!"
A crimson glint flashed through Yeying’s eyes, and her right arm, which had transformed into a bone scythe, swung straight toward Aige’s head.
Despite the teachings of the Lunar Eclipse Sect, which state that executing a Chief Judge must be personally ordered by the Archbishop, the nature of the matter had completely changed after Barrosa Group became involved in the Church’s internal strife. As for Aige, his status as a heretic had already been confirmed.
However, this time Yeying did not see Aige’s head being severed, nor did the warm blood she imagined splash onto her face. Instead, she smelled something scorched and felt an emptiness where her right arm used to be.
The bone scythe of an arm spun several times in the air before it plunged, straight as a blade, into the distant soil.
In the blink of an eye, Aige’s expression shifted from disarray to wild joy.
By the time he came back to his senses, that figure, massive as an iron giant, had already appeared before him. Her speed was so incredible that it was as if her own timeline had been sped up countless times. Even the Church’s prized "Angel of Death" had been unable to react to her recent actions.
It was only when Yeying’s right arm, severed by the heat of an energy blade, landed in the distant soil did that prolonged "instant" seem to finally end.
Immediately after, Aige saw Yeying, like a wild beast enraged, thrusting newly grown bone spikes toward the iron giant’s chest.
It was also at this moment that time distorted once more.
The mountain-like iron body knelt upon Yeying’s back, her legs and her recently regenerated arms were pinned to the ground with black shackles.
In such a state, Yeying could only desperately crane her neck, staring at Aige with eyes filled with fury.
Aige’s mood had completely settled down.
This last desperate move had earned him sufficient rewards.
The sacrifice of the Tribunal Guard Team was of value; they had given their lives to win him the time to contact the Barrosa Group.
For in their last encounter, he learned that the Barrosa Group seemed quite interested in the Church’s "Angel of Death." After all, tracing back in history, their existence was a product of the "honeymoon period" between the Lunar Eclipse Sect and the Barrosa Group. Perhaps even Yeying herself did not know that half of her body originated from Barrosa Group’s genetic technology.
And in these several gambles, he had emerged as the ultimate winner.
"Lately, I’ve found my luck to be incredibly good... Don’t look at me with that expression; I didn’t mean to send those people to the execution platform on purpose."
Aige’s tone returned to its usual cadence. Now, looking down at Yeying, who was immobile, he recalled the scene when he had witnessed the thirteen "heretics" being consumed by fire on the execution platform, "Blame can only be placed on their excessive curiosity; they discovered my dealings with the Barrosa Group and even conspired to expose me in front of the believers."
At this, he feigned sorrow and shook his head, "Therefore, their deaths were inevitable."
"You traitor!"
Yeying struggled vehemently. Even though Aige was just a few steps away from her, other than her curses, she was unable to express her rage in any other way.
"Traitor?"
Aige sneered, "If we are to speak of a real traitor, it would be none other than the Archbishop you revere—Helifis herself! Have you fools never questioned why even after I sent those thirteen people to the execution platform; even after I betrayed and fled the Church, she has never appeared to give you the order to eliminate me..."
The accusations against Helifis came to an abrupt halt.
Father Aige’s eyes widened as he distinctly saw Yeying, for some unknown reason, suddenly break free from the grasp of the steel titan. She seemingly relied on brute strength to yank those pitch-black shackles out of the ground, and her mouth full of sharp teeth ferociously gnawed at his neck, turning all the words he wanted to utter into a hissing sound.
And for Yeying, she didn’t know if she had just experienced an illusion.
But there was a moment when the enemy, heavy as a mountain on her back, eased their strength, giving her the chance to seize the opportunity.
The taste of blood in her mouth soon stopped her from thinking, leaving her with only one thing in her mind—bite through the neck of this traitor!
And that’s exactly what she did.
The taste of blood stimulated her nerves, causing her to momentarily forget the extremely dangerous enemy behind her.
Father Aige’s gradually blurring vision took in everything.
He saw the woman who called herself the commander of the Barrosa Group take out a syringe and inject the green liquid into the back of Yeying’s neck.
The biting stopped quickly, and when Yeying was moved off him, Father Aige, drained of strength, slumped to the ground, leaning against the armed hover vehicle.
Blood flowed down from his wound, quickly pooling at his feet.
He felt bone-chilling coldness, and beyond that, full of doubt.
"You should have tried to escape immediately," said the commander as she stood in front of him. The sound reaching Father Aige’s ears was still that mechanically synthesized female voice, and the face hidden beneath the exoskeleton helmet made it impossible for him to discern her expression; he suddenly realized that everything about her was enshrouded in mystery.
The commander continued to speak, the distinctive chill of the mechanical voice making her seem heartless, "Your windpipe has been bitten through, blood loss and suffocation will kill you completely in 1 minute and 27 seconds, I can give you a hand."
Father Aige hazily saw the commander’s right leg lifted high.
This made him realize the true meaning of "helping himself"—she wasn’t planning to stop the bleeding or reconnect his severed windpipe, but instead to help him end his suffering.
At that moment, Father Aige instinctively wanted to say something.
He had lots of money.
During these days, he had used the power of the Chief Judge to amass a great deal of wealth, enough for him to squander for several lifetimes.
He had purchased a property in the Seventh Neutral Country.
It was a warm seaside city, very suitable for retirement.
Father Aige had much more he wanted to say, but no matter how hard he tried, all he could produce was a feeble hiss.
Then, a shadow cast over his vision.
The commander’s suspended right foot stomped down hard.
Only after everything became quiet did she open her communication device and report to the fleet above the clouds.
"The retrieval of the original genetic samples has been completed... Yes, when I arrived, Father Aige had already shown no signs of life."
