Chapter 565: The Death Horn_1

Chapter 565: Chapter 565: The Death Horn_1

The sudden arrival of Barrosa Group soldiers plunged the town into panic. After assembling their troops, this squad of over twenty men immediately sprung into action in the small town. They began conducting forced searches, house by house. For those residents who were unwilling to cooperate, the soldiers would kick down their doors and haul the struggling townsfolk onto the streets like carrying chickens.

This was the third time in a week that the Barrosa Group had initiated searches in the outskirts of Neutral Country’s third region.

Those suspected of hiding Lunar Eclipse Sect Believers or harboring them in the town would be gathered by the Barrosa Group soldiers and executed in the square.

"Quick, hide in the cellar!"

The couple urgently opened a secret passage, located beneath a floorboard in the bedroom, leading to a narrow and deep space whose end was unknown and from which came the smell of damp and mold.

The Barrosa Group soldiers would certainly recognize Yeying.

The "Angels of Death" from the Church were their key focus, as well as the primary targets of their decapitation strike. Since the commencement of the End Ritual, over six leaders or significant figures from various schools had been assassinated by the Barrosa Group.

From the couple’s narrative, Song Lan and Lu Xiang learned that the Barrosa Group’s Cavalry was not after them.

The Barrosa Group’s strategy was to choke off the peripheral routes of the Neutral Country’s third region, trapping Lunar Eclipse Sect Believers and the monsters emerging from the "mine" within the city, allowing them to deplete the sect’s living forces to the greatest extent through mutual slaughter.

Although the Lunar Eclipse Sect Believers in the central city had built a defensive line against the monsters of the "mine," the location of the "mine" itself severed the routes that connected the peripheral cities to the central city. With no other choice, Believers and citizens could only flee outwards, unaware that what awaited them once they desperately escaped their homes was the barrel of the Barrosa Group’s Cavalry guns.

In the midst of conversation, the Cavalry had already rounded up the Believers and townspeople they had captured to the square.

Campbell was a place severely "poisoned" by the Lunar Eclipse Sect and the main area targeted by their searches, reaping substantial rewards each time.

They deliberately did not reduce the entire town to ashes, preferring to attract the Lunar Eclipse Sect Believers who had miraculously escaped from the monsters toward this place.

Apart from strategic intentions, there was also a grudge between the two parties.

After the end of the Merchant Church War, the Lunar Eclipse Sect had treated the remnants of the Merchant Association in the same way.

Song Lan, who had just read about the history of the Neutral Country’s third region on the airship, had much to reflect on. This was why he hated war.

Alas, when will the cycle of vengeance end!

They were just innocent Adventurers who happened to pass through this town, deciding to visit the "mine" for a tour!

But it was foreseeable that the Barrosa Group would certainly not acknowledge their status as Adventurers, and moreover, he vaguely remembered that after the destruction of a Barrosa Group division, a bounty of 15 million watts was placed on Lu Xiang by a killer organization in the "outside world."

Faced with the couple’s incessant urging, Yeying, who had hastily cleared the table of its food, suddenly banged the table and stood up.

Just now, she had had an epiphany and understood the purpose of that secret tunnel.

"Don’t be afraid, they won’t be able to hurt you anymore."

Then she looked at Lu Xiang and Song Lan, "I will definitely take you to the ’mine’."

The explosive readiness to make two flags in ten seconds caught Song Lan off guard, and just as he wanted to make Yeying understand that it was a taboo to make flags before battle, the young girl walked straight out the door.

Without any tactics or weapons, she exposed herself to the guns of the Barrosa Group’s Cavalry with just her bare flesh.

The Cavalry immediately noticed this unarmed young girl.

However, as soon as they got a clear view of Yeying’s face, the group of Cavalry, who had previously been swaggering in front of the townspeople, suddenly became as if facing a formidable enemy.

Dense ammunition poured down on the Yeying, and the commander of this operation took a few steps back and pulled out the signal flare without hesitation.

Before that red beam was ignited, splattering blood soaked his exoskeleton armor’s helmet.

The arm holding the signal flare was no longer under his control, having been hurled more than ten meters by the force of inertia.

The Cavalrymen were left stunned in place, seemingly unable to comprehend how the Yeying had dashed into the crowd faster than a bullet, only Song Lan had seen clearly everything that unfolded in less than a second.

The Yeying was propelled forward by something akin to an air bomb, as at the moment she activated it, a spore-like object had grown from her lower back. The blast from the spore exploding propelled the Yeying almost instantaneously across the dozens of meters and into the midst of the Cavalrymen.

Following that, she sliced off the Cavalry commander’s arm along with the metal of the exoskeleton armor, extending her index finger’s nail by half a meter as easily as if she were peeling an apple.

The Yeying didn’t deliberately dodge the bullets—those kinetic energy weapon bullets capable of piercing bullet-proof coatings were deflected elsewhere by the biomatter shell covering her body.

This steel giant, nearly three meters tall, was knocked to the ground by a girl only tall enough to reach his waist. The Yeying sat astride him, positioning herself on the exoskeleton armor’s chest.

The commander felt the approach of death, wildly swinging a chainsaw that had started up on his left arm towards the Yeying.

The chainsaw finally inflicted some damage on the Yeying, and then his chest, reinforced for protection by exoskeleton armor, was slit open. For the sake of his mental health, Song Lan decided not to identify what exactly was ripped out from underneath the exoskeleton armor.

The remaining Cavalrymen, noticing the effect of the chainsaw, discarded their kinetic energy weapons and rushed towards the Yeying with roars.

But this time, the spinning chainsaw could no longer cut through the Yeying’s skin.

Another kind of shell, one that Song Lan had never seen before, had grown on the surface of her skin.

"Her body is mutating!"

Lu Xiang blurted out in astonishment.

In just one encounter, the Yeying’s body had adapted its structure to be most suited to the environment based on feedback from the injured regions—this was a capability to reconfigure genetics that only Devourers possessed!

The Cavalry’s roars became their death knells, as the skirmish ended much more swiftly than anyone had anticipated.

In the final moments of their lives, they understood the command of the Barrosa Group leader.

"Angel of Death" was considered the most dangerous target within the Lunar Eclipse Sect, and to exterminate them, an entire mechanized troop needed to be deployed.

When the people in the square came to their senses, what met their eyes was the sight of severed limbs and torn exoskeleton armor parts scattered everywhere.

Yeying was entirely drenched in blood-red, and even the townspeople and Believers who had been saved by her gave her fearful glances. They shivered in place, not daring to make the slightest noise.

Yeying paid no attention to the people around her, for just a moment ago, she had learned the reason why that couple had opened the secret passage for them.

In full view of everyone, she picked up the Cavalry remnants from the ground, effortlessly carrying those steel bodies much larger than hers into the couple’s home and hiding them in the secret passage.

"All hidden!"

After completing this enormous task, Yeying wiped the blood from her face, her lips parting in a smile as innocent and carefree as that of a young girl.

"This way they won’t discover what happened here for a while."
