Chapter 535: The Young Secretary_1

Chapter 535: Chapter 535: The Young Secretary_1

"This is an immature approach."

Meanwhile, somewhere outside the school.

The "delinquent youth" once again encountered the eccentric man he had met before, a man who resembled a medieval detective, now stood in his path.

Or, more precisely, the man seemed to have returned from the destination the youth had intended to reach.

As soon as the man saw him, he criticized his approach.

Like the last time they met, the man showed no sign of wanting to fight.

"Your approach won’t stop the company. Your teammates, and anyone else involved, will be affected, like your other teammate, who by now should have received a summons from the Interrogation."

On hearing this, the youth’s pupils constricted.

From the notes of the "ruins" he learned about the school’s unseen methods, along with techniques for controlling the subconscious and deceiving the pinhole testers. The thought of those methods from the notes being used on his teammate sent shivers down his spine.

"But I’ve done you a small favor."

Angle glanced at the overcast sky. Since leaving District 17, he had developed a new level of control over "misfortune"; he realized it wasn’t just those who attacked him that could be afflicted by it, he could actively direct it towards someone through certain methods.

Disaster would seek out whoever trod the wrong path.

On the other hand, this seemed to indicate that his integration with this unknown force was growing stronger.

Perhaps, one day, his consciousness too might be consumed by this incomprehensible disaster.

"The Interrogation has been dealt with, for now. But it’s a temporary solution. The company can find a replacement at any time, and this is likely to pique their curiosity."

The youth was confused by Angle.

He thought battle was inevitable, but the other’s words made him temporarily lose his train of thought. "What are you trying to say?"

"I am not your enemy, but our time is running short. If you don’t hasten your steps, you and your teammates will fall back into the hands of the school."

Angle paused before continuing, "The scariest thing in this world isn’t death, but having someone invade the depths of your mind, rewriting your thoughts, turning you into an uncontrolled tool at their disposal."

He gazed down the path behind the youth.

Everything outside the school remained as it was over a hundred years ago.

The small town destroyed by the Third War, ruins scattered everywhere, and twisted monsters that still roamed within.

This place was neither within the United Government’s territory nor did it seem to belong to any "outer" region—at least, the Bureau of Abnormal Case Investigation had no record of such a strange place or these monsters, which were beyond recognition.

The monsters seemed more like projections of consciousness. Though not particularly strong in combat, upon being killed, they would merge into the "killer" as a Consciousness Entity.

Sending out teams of outstanding students for expeditions outside the school to eradicate these monsters appeared to be Purple Wisteria Academy’s unique method of strengthening their consciousness and spiritual power. It also seemed like the secret behind the selected students growing increasingly powerful.

In the past, no one had suggested the method of absorbing other Consciousness Entities to gain strength. To some extent, this method of cultivation was more like leveling up through monster-slaying in games.

Both the town and Purple Wisteria Academy itself were shrouded in countless unknown secrets.

However, the pressing timeframe was not enough for him to uncover all the secrets here. Instinct and the notes from the "ruins" indicated that there was an enemy lurking—so powerful it was beyond his imagination. Like a Shadow, it enveloped everything here.

In fact, someone had challenged this enemy before the youth had.

And before that, she had recorded the process of her search for the enemy in notes scattered outside the campus, seemingly convinced that someone would eventually find them.

That student did indeed get her wish and met face to face with the true form of the enemy.

However, the outcome of the challenge was painfully defeat.

After the defeat, she and her teammates were sent back to the campus, where under the careful accompaniment of their teachers, they underwent months of thought correction treatment.

As for her name and what happened after she received the remedy...

According to the academy, the remedy was extremely effective. The rebellious teenagers’ thoughts had been realigned, and through the process of remedy and education, they had come to deeply realize their mistakes and understood how glorious it was to serve the company.

Then, the company "forgave and forgot" and welcomed them back again.

Just like the outstanding graduates before them, they were employed by the company after graduation and maybe are still contributing to the company’s interests even today.

However, such realities were all too common in this age.

What he truly needed to do now was not to sigh over a student he’d met but to find out the reason for the failure and the enemy that was still shrouded in mist.

"What you’re looking for is up there."

Angle brushed past the young man and headed toward the direction of the small town.

The end of this mountain road was a graveyard.

The monsters in the graveyard had already been cleared out by him.

The young man didn’t ask further but ran towards the graveyard at the mountaintop. They had already found the notes left behind by the unnamed senior in various places outside the campus. It had been a long and wondrous journey, those simple words let them feel as if they were part of the senior’s past adventures and rebellions.

And now, they were only one step away from the truth and the "final battle."

He believed that the notes in the graveyard would surely reveal the enemy’s secrets, and defeating that enemy would free them completely from the company and the academy, allowing them to regain their freedom.

Thinking this, the young man quickened his pace once more.

He was also eager to find the contents recorded by the senior at the end of their journey.

Soon, he found the last reminder from the senior on a tombstone, but the next moment, his joyful expression froze. The piece of paper fluttering in the breeze did not provide any answers but contained irrelevant content:

"Chronicles of Time" (crossed out)

"No, my name is Anjing."

"Anjing, Anjing, Anjing!"

"We will definitely leave this place!"

"We will definitely leave this place!"

"We will definitely leave this place!"

...

The young man numbly took down the note, which was different from any other notes they had found before.

In other notes, the senior always provided important clues coolly, helping them avoid the teacher’s gaze and allowing him to narrowly escape harm time and again.

Every time he saw a note left by the senior, he gained confidence.

Yet, on this last note, the senior had left nothing.

He still had no clue about the real face of the Shadow that loomed over them, but in these repeatedly written words, he felt the senior’s emotions.

Anxiety, unease, and despair.

It seemed related to the senior’s ability—whenever he read words written by the senior, it brought him some additional feelings.

But...

What on earth was their enemy?
