Chapter 520: Chapter 520: Dumb Bird_1

"Come on, open up, ah—"

Guided by Lu Xiang, Song Lan resignedly opened his mouth.

This was the med bay of the Law Enforcers, equipped with basic measuring devices. At that moment, Lu Xiang, clad in a white lab coat and donning medical latex gloves, inserted a mini flashlight into Song Lan’s mouth, gently manipulated his tongue with her other hand, and after confirming there were no abnormalities, she turned off the flashlight and pulled a lollipop from her lab coat pocket to pop into Song Lan’s mouth.

The candy had originally been stored in a drawer in her office for her personal enjoyment; she had not expected to use it here.

"The examination results are out, and all your indicators are very healthy."

After carefully reviewing the detailed examination results for Song Lan, Lu Xiang finally let her heart settle down.

Song Lan was healthy now.

The reason she had immediately flown back to the Law Enforcers’ headquarters and then dragged Song Lan into the med bay was due to basic common knowledge about Psychic Abilities.

Anyone who knows about Psychic Abilities would understand that the larger the Coverage, the greater the consumption.

Lu Xiang had always felt that the rating for "Coverage" noted in the handbook for Psychics wasn’t entirely positive. Those rated as "High" or "Very High" would, more or less, be forced to use their abilities beyond their limits in various situations.

The harm of overusing one’s Psychic Energy was extremely clear: at best, one would feel mentally disoriented; at worst, one could vomit blood and fall into a coma. She had read a case where a Psychic, after using their abilities beyond their limit and forcibly expanding their Coverage to encompass the entire city, suffered a mental breakdown and spent the rest of their life in a vegetative state.

However, according to Song Lan’s description of his ability, the scope of the time reversal this time had exceeded the current framework of Psychic research. It wasn’t just Sector 17 that had experienced the temporal rollback; it was the entire world.

Lu Xiang found it hard to imagine the burden such use of abilities would bring upon Song Lan, but he claimed he did not experience any adverse reactions, summarizing it with the phrase, "Eating is a delight, the body’s in great might."

Now, the test results seemed to confirm this saying and also made Lu Xiang see Song Lan’s abilities as something transcending the existing framework for Psychics.

After much contemplation, she still placed her hand on Song Lan’s forehead to check for reassurance.

The temperature was normal, no signs of fever.

"How do you feel now?"

"I feel a bit regretful."

"Regretful?"

"It would be better if you were wearing a skirt under that white lab coat."

Song Lan indeed had some ideas while undergoing Lu Xiang’s thorough medical checkup, though they had little to do with the ability itself.

What truly disappointed him was that minor flaws emerged in this rare opportunity to play doctor, but he knew it was wishful thinking. Lu Xiang hardly owned any skirts in her wardrobe, and unless he insisted firmly, skirts would never be part of the outfit options in her mind.

According to her, skirts posed significant disadvantages, such as hindering movement and being prone to damage.

"Can’t you be serious for once!"

Lu Xiang glared fiercely at Song Lan, slid her hand from his head to his face, and using both hands, she pinched and stretched Song Lan’s cheeks.

"My mistake, my mistake!"

And so, this seemingly invincible Psychic -- who had once turned back time for the whole world -- sent her a signal pleading for mercy.

Seeing this, Lu Xiang could only sigh heavily, reluctantly believing that Song Lan did not suffer any severe after-effects from overusing his abilities.

Those Psychics who obtained a rating of "Very High" in "Rule Efficiency" indeed could fully utilize their Spiritual Energy more than others could.

The idea of a rating panel belonging to Song Lan flashed through her mind, and she thought that if it fell into the hands of any researcher, it would send them into raptures.

Lu Xiang asked again, "What conditions need to be met for your ability to activate?"

"I don’t know."

Song Lan’s gaze was warm and innocent, but his answer was infuriating.

"How can you possibly not know?"

"Probably... it needs the support of strong psychic energy?"

In all honesty, he didn’t understand this ability any better than Lu Xiang did. In fact, this time, it was with Lu Xiang’s help that he came to understand the true nature of his ability. Lu Xiang’s suggestion about "location" explained how the premonitions occurred. Perhaps he had used this ability before, but after using it, he probably quickly dismissed those premonitions as ordinary premonitory dreams and couldn’t be bothered to piece together the events from the deleted timelines like collecting fragments.

Why do that when you can lie in bed and sleep comfortably?

On this point, Song Lan was always the most resolved.

No matter how many times this multiple-choice question appeared before him, he would without hesitation choose to sleep in.

"If you don’t understand it yourself, how do you use it then?"

"Feeling."

After a moment of thought, Song Lan gave this profound two-word answer.

"Feeling?"

"I use it when I feel it’s necessary."

Under Lu Xiang’s puzzled gaze, Song Lan stretched out his right hand and quickly flexed his five fingers, "It’s like moving your fingers; some things are hard to explain."

Moving fingers.

Lu Xiang got her first clear answer about Song Lan’s abilities today.

She felt it wasn’t meaningless; at least it proved that for Song Lan, the difficulty and energy consumption of activating his ability was about the same as moving fingers, even much easier and safer.

Because just now, Lu Xiang had watched Song Lan, in his reckless attempt to prove his point, play with his palm and fingers in front of her, accidentally slamming his hand back on the measuring device on the table.

Then,

this invincible Ability User painfully clutched the back of his hand where he was hit, curling up into a ball on the chair.

This was probably the most serious injury Song Lan had suffered since after a battle.

Even activating his time reversal abilities hadn’t made him as uncomfortable as he was now.

At least, she didn’t have to worry anymore that Song Lan would suddenly vomit three liters of blood due to overusing his powers.

But on the other hand...

She also covered her eyes with her hand in pain. At the moment Song Lan’s hand firmly hit the measuring device, she heard his cry of pain, which almost made her lose her composure and laugh out loud.

Lu Xiang was caught in a profound conflict.

Rationally, all her knowledge about psychic abilities told her just how powerful Song Lan’s abilities were.

But emotionally, she felt that the person curled up with his hand over his back right now was nothing but a Dumb Bird.

From their first meeting until now, that had never changed.
