Chapter 477: Chapter 477: Reunion, Seventh District_1
Hanna’s surgery had gone very smoothly, which was evident from the fact that she walked out of the operating room by herself.
"Are these all prostheses? They look no different from a normal person’s."
After assessing Hanna’s slender arms for over ten seconds, Song Lan let out a sigh typical of the poor. It was only after arriving in the Seventh District that he realized the prosthetics of the upper-class tended to be seamless and indistinguishable from those of normal people.
They seemed to call this the minimalist style.
After getting familiar with Song Lan and others, Hanna became much more cheerful. She gestured with her right hand in front of Song Lan, and the blazing heat of the blade instantly raised the temperature in the hallway, "Actually, I had planned to replace it with a thermal cutting blade before, but due to limitations on my modification level, I hadn’t been able to switch."
Hanna maintained a positive and optimistic attitude towards the changes in her body.
83% prosthetic modification rate.
This meant that most of the parts in her body had been replaced at least once, including her brain, which now housed the latest military-grade prosthetics. After demonstrating to Song Lan and Lu Xiang, she retracted the thermal cutting blade and pointed to her head, "There’s also an overload system installed in here, which is said to increase my movement speed. I haven’t had the chance to try many of the new features yet."
Thinking positively, these were the modifications that she had been apprehensive about.
All her prosthetics had been implanted with combat and military use in mind; it seemed her parents wanted to take this opportunity to transform her into a humanoid weapon.
The Headquarters was very invested in her modification progress. Immediately after the surgery was completed, they sent a congratulatory message through the built-in system in her brain and strongly requested that she visit the Headquarters.
Officially, it was a visit of concern, but in reality, they didn’t want to let go of this "freshly baked" immediate combat asset.
"Those prosthetics must have cost a fortune, right?"
Song Lan asked curiously, admitting to himself that every time he saw the thermal cutting blade, he was impressed.
"Not too bad," Hanna said with a pursed smile, "Just the minimalist custom models are a bit pricier, the whole body cost about just over 80 million watts in total."
A subtle silence enveloped the corridor, and even Lu Xiang averted his gaze.
She was indeed the daughter of a wealthy family.
This trip to the Seventh District deeply impressed upon Song Lan the vast economic disparity between the border cities and the core cities, and it reminded him of everyone’s good friend, Mr. Chai Ke.
21% prosthetic modification rate.
Strutting around the Seventeenth District like a professional.
Regrettably, Mr. Chai Ke had never had the chance to broaden his horizons in the core areas during his later years.
"By the way, can you guys issue a medical certificate for psychological counseling?"
Breaking the silence, Hanna said, "I declined the Headquarters’ recall on the pretext that I needed further psychological counseling. I plan to adjust my state on the outside before the situation completely stabilizes."
Of course, this was what Song Lan had taught her.
The word "completely" was very clever; it could mean a few days, a few weeks, or even a few months.
And during these months, she could very well present new symptoms, indefinitely postponing this period.
Thanks to the good impression she usually left on her colleagues and superiors, they were thoroughly convinced by this.
"Outside" was nearly an explicit intention to go to the Seventeenth District.
Hanna had made two real friends at this reunion; her first stop was set in the city where her friends lived because Song Lan had mentioned that the power of one person playing hooky was ultimately limited. Only mutual support and collaboration could allow them to perfectly evade their superiors’ scrutiny.
To that end, he had bribed his three clerks to cover for him.
However, for some reason, upon hearing about this, Lu Xiang was not surprised but rather smiled wryly, shooting him a meaningful glance.
"Certainly, we can handle any kind of certificate over there."
Song Lan always had an abundance of care for Hanna, the rising star of the shirker Sect, and he assured her by thumping his chest, "Not to mention certificates for seeing a psychologist, even professional qualification certificates, driver’s licenses, student IDs, or death certificates— we can manage all of those here."
"Hold on, since when could we do all that?"
Lu Xiang’s hand landed on Song Lan’s shoulder and, with a slight squeeze, made Song Lan grin and grimace; he couldn’t help but suspect that Lu Xiang had practiced the Nine Yin White Bone Claw behind his back.
She glared at Song Lan with the demeanor of an interrogator, "How do you even know about these services?"
"I would never betray Zhuang Chi!"
Song Lan said resolutely, with an attitude of taking a solemn vow of silence.
"Zhuang Chi? What does she have to do with this?"
"You think I’ll tell you that she knows many people who can create certificates, and as long as you ask the network surveillance department colleagues kindly to update the system with the processed documents, the fake becomes real?"
Hanna, who stood by, was dumbstruck; as an agent of the exceptional case investigation department, she had never witnessed such smooth unfolding of an interrogation.
Perhaps this was Lu Xiang’s investigative skill.
In less than 20 seconds, a major counterfeit certificate gang in the Seventeenth District had been dealt a devastating blow.
Due to a series of recent events at the academy, student association activities had been canceled, and the Morning Star cup had been postponed by a month.
At dusk, the three of them visited their teacher and booked tickets back to the Seventeenth District.
At the moment of parting, Lu Xiang’s teachers gripped her hand tightly, hoping that she would continue to maintain her spirit of not fearing authority. They were also aware of Isabella and her cronies’ actions at the academy over recent years, but due to the Iris Consortium, they could only turn a blind eye.
Everyone remained silent, and no teacher dared to propose sanctions on them, let alone directly order those individuals to drop out.
Yet the arrival of Lu Xiang changed everything.
Just as she had sanctioned the Foster Family in the Seventeenth District, Isabella and her followers finally faced judgment.
It wasn’t me who did it!
Lu Xiang wore a sullen expression throughout, and no matter how she explained, her teachers exuded an "There’s no need to explain, I understand" look.
I see that you’ve understood nothing!
Lu Xiang hadn’t expected that even these usually astute teachers would be influenced by rumors.
What made her even angrier was that Hanna, far from offering any explanation, watched the excitement throughout with a mentality of fanning the flames, and getting a hint from Hanna, a "domestic insider" from the Conservative Faction, the event became a nailed-on fact.
"Hanna."
The torturous visit ended, and Lu Xiang looked at Hanna with eyes nearly shooting fire; she now seriously suspected that Hanna was exacting revenge on her because, due to being in the same cohort, Hanna was branded as the "Perennial Runner-Up" at the academy.
"Don’t be angry, don’t be angry."
Hanna’s face showed no sign of remorse, and she said, "The Conservative Faction definitely won’t hold a grudge against you. They are too busy dealing with the Innovator Faction’s offensive to worry about others. We’re leaving anyway, so why not leave the teachers with a wonderful memory?"
