Chapter 472: Chapter 472: Master, what is your profession?_1

"You don’t need to be so tense, I guess that manual should have recorded my abilities."

Upon hearing this, Jasmine halted.

It seemed that even her meeting with her companion had not escaped the other’s notice.

In the hospital ward, someone had acted before her; the air in front twisted together, brief notes pierced the darkness, and everything happened in the blink of an eye—the contorted air passed through the Shadow’s body, leaving numerous holes in her.

The next moment, all the holes connected, tearing her body into pieces.

Ink splashed like blood, and in an instant, the ceiling, walls, and floor were stained with black. As the notes dissipated, silence returned to the ward, which still only contained Isabella and Jasmine—the attacker had never shown themselves.

"Aiya, you took it out."

A moment later, the voice of the Shadow rose from under Jasmine’s feet.

There was no anger from being ambushed, but rather a playful and cheeky tone.

And in the instant the Shadow shattered, Jasmine finally understood the other’s state—it wasn’t the projection of Spiritual Energy that appeared before them, but the projection of a δ Consciousness Entity, just as the manual said. Her physical body had been annihilated in that hunt, and what remained was solely a Consciousness Entity.

In other words, the means of attack they recognized were all ineffective.

Her body could transform into any shape at will, adhere to any object, and even if the entire school infirmary were leveled, they couldn’t harm δ in the slightest.

Perhaps from the moment of her death, δ had transformed from a human into some unknown entity.

This was unlike any mission they had ever executed before.

They knew nothing about these things that had escaped from the "alien relics," the United Government couldn’t provide them with accurate intelligence, and it wasn’t possible for them to make targeted preparations.

An unknown encounter meant danger.

"Why not consider my proposal? I believe I can offer you satisfactory terms."

People-shaped shadows constructed from the Shadow emerged from the ground, standing before her.

In an instant, fluorescent light and darkness intertwined, erupting into a blinding radiance, causing even Isabella, deep in slumber, to furrow her brows.

Just from the collision of Psychic Abilities, the walls of the ward were riddled with cracks, and soon the walls and pillars emitted a crumbling groan.

Perhaps in three seconds, or even less, the entire building would collapse.

Jasmine had never seen such intense Psychic Energy. For a moment, she felt as if the entire world was pressing down on her, and under the baptism of this black tide, she was like a lone boat adrift in the waves.

This time, she finally saw the Shadow’s face clearly.

Under the cover of darkness, she bore a resemblance to the girl in the photo in the manual.

Only now she was much more animated than the expressionless face in the photo, δ’s frenzied gaze made her wonder if there was some personal vendetta between them.

But in terms of time and place, it was impossible for their paths to have crossed.

According to the information her companion had gathered, Experimental Body δ had been eliminated in the year when she was only three, and δ had never passed through her city during her escape.

The school infirmary was on the verge of collapse, and worse still, the Psychic barrier had begun to crack.

A streak of black droplet penetrated the barrier, leaving a cool sensation on her forehead.

A strange feeling surged within her.

She quickly understood the other’s purpose—she wanted to probe her memories!

This was also one of the uses of interference-type Psychic Abilities, used to pry into the memories of those who were fiercely resistant and tight-lipped.

"It’s almost at its limit, if you continue to resist, this building will collapse,"

δ reminded her gently.

The sentence distracted Jasmine, and her momentary lapse immediately resulted in more cracks forming on the barrier, with more droplets sneaking in through the crevices.

Another musical note rang out.

However, this time, δ’s body wasn’t torn back into the ink state, and the holes in her body were closed in the blink of an eye.

Then, her smile froze on her face.

In its place was an expression of disbelief.

"Interesting, very interesting. I didn’t expect there to be someone like you," she said.

Jasmine found a gap, and the cracks in the barrier healed at a speed visible to the naked eye. She clenched her teeth and pushed out the Spiritual Energy engulfing her. The diffused Spiritual Energy did not pursue but instead permeated every crack in the building. It was during this restoration process that she sensed another chilling Psychic Energy.

It existed within every crevice of the building, as if a hand was holding them tightly in its palm.

This was perhaps the main reason why the medical school building had not collapsed under the aftermath of the colliding Spiritual Energy. If she had not been diligently repairing the damaged parts of the building, she might not have noticed that besides them, there was a third Psychic watching over this place.

Just as δ was about to say something, she noticed the terror in Jasmine’s eyes.

Even when Jasmine had been at a disadvantage just before, she had never shown such an expression. δ noticed the rapidly repairing cracks and hastily allowed her Psychic Energy to permeate even deeper.

Immediately after, a similar expression appeared on her face to that of Jasmine’s, only her expression was shrouded in shadow, and Jasmine did not notice the change in δ’s complexion.

"Listen to me, this is a misunderstanding," δ said.

As Jasmine pondered the origin of the other Psychic Energy, δ, not too far away, suddenly started babbling incoherently. She even weirdly raised her hands above her head to signal her harmlessness.

The black tide receded rapidly.

Jasmine distinctly saw δ avoiding her gaze, wandering restlessly throughout the room, and mumbling, "I’m leaving now!"

δ’s sudden transformation intensified the panic in Jasmine’s heart.

She couldn’t think of anything that could make the nearly invincible δ so panicked and desperate.

Could it be that there was an entity much more powerful than δ inside the "alien relic"?

δ did not give Jasmine a chance to ask questions; she merged with the retreating black tide and vanished without a trace.

The distressing sensation prevented Jasmine from dwelling on the interesting discoveries she had just made. Her mind was consumed by a single thought.

Leave this city.

However, the details she saw while fleeing intensified her inner terror—the branches, caressed by the evening breeze, stopped swaying; the floating leaves halted mid-air; the night sky also froze at this moment.

Then it was her turn.

No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t break free from the bonds of time.

A voice she found somewhat familiar caught up with her.

"Please hold on!" it called.

When time, wich had stopped, resumed its flow, she was pulled to the ground by a force.

A familiar figure blocked her path.

She had seen this figure before when the colossal statue was being dismantled and the cage that confined them was falling apart.

The black coat obscured his features.

But for them, Psychic Energy was a more convenient means of distinguishing each other’s identities than appearance.

The person was only a step away from her, and the voice coming from beneath the masquerade sounded somewhat excited as he asked a question that left δ puzzled.

—"Master, what is your profession?"
