Chapter 429: Chapter 429: It Doesn’t Matter, The Company Will Take Action_1
The observers could hardly believe their own ears.
They knew that last night, just like at their place, the town’s inn had also experienced a horrifying incident. Between 4 and 5 a.m., a ghostly woman in white had entered everyone’s room. But unlike them, haunted by their own fear and conservatism, the people in town actually planned to take the initiative to seek out the cause of the monster’s appearance.
Were these people not afraid to die?
They instinctively checked the time and realized it was almost ten o’clock. In a few more minutes, it would be the time when the safety manual forbade going out.
When the observers gathered around the screen, several people were already equipped and congregated in front of the mysterious merchant Ge Fu’s shop.
Through two days of observation, they had found out that Ge Fu was a merchant who appeared randomly in town. He always sold some strange Void items, and every day, the trio known as Big Radish Head would be at the shop at a fixed time awaiting his arrival.
The mayor of Sheep Village mentioned they hoped to buy some weapons from the merchant to confront the Void creatures, but since Ge Fu had not sold any weapons for several days—selling only minor living essentials—they had secretly started to call him the Useless Merchant.
All seven of them were armed to the teeth, seemingly well-prepared for travel in the wilderness.
And today, facing the familiar shop front, Big Radish Head wept tears of an old man.
Finally!
The mysterious merchant Ge Fu was finally not just obsessed with selling his broken household goods; he began selling weapons!
Seeing the dazzling array of weapons on the stand, the three simultaneously felt a surge of youthful excitement.
"Uh..."
Newcomer Emily couldn’t understand their feelings at the moment, but she felt there was something not quite right about the weapons the mysterious merchant was selling.
The weapons were indeed diverse, ranging from daggers, short swords, longswords, to axes, more than enough for a weapon shop under a sword and magic worldview.
But the problem was...
It was the year 2166, yet these weapons seemed to have taken them all the way back to the medieval period.
However, the Void creatures were clearly not beasts from the medieval era. Over the past few days, they had checked out the website introduced by Big Radish Head and crammed the entries about Void creatures. They were about to face opponents that even four-star rescuers from the United Government couldn’t handle.
Emily truly believed she didn’t need swords and daggers; what she really needed was an exoskeleton armor, or at the very least, an armored floating car for them.
"You can choose the weapons that feel right for you,"
the smiling mysterious merchant Ge Fu said, but when combined with the half of his face covered by a cloth, he looked as sly and deceitful as a swindler, "The price of the weapons is uniform, 10,000 volts a piece."
Why don’t you just rob people!
Emily almost blurted out, knowing that 10,000 volts could buy out the biggest arms store in the city center even in a core area!
But what shocked her even more was that the Big Radish Head trio seemed to have already grown accustomed to the mysterious merchant’s prices, even discussing whether or not to get one of each type of weapon as they made their selections.
You’ve been conned!
"Hold on."
She interrupted the trio, quietly pulled them aside, and reminded them tactfully, "Don’t you think these weapons are too expensive, and they don’t seem very powerful either?"
Compared to these cold weapons, Emily had more faith in a handgun.
At her words, Big Radish Head looked perplexed, "Expensive?"
"Yeah, 10,000 volts a piece."
As a one-star rescuer, even she would feel the pinch spending so much money.
"No problem, the company will take care of it."
Spicy Chicken cradled a bow in his hands, thoroughly inspecting it with an affection he couldn’t shake. In fact, he had been fond of cold weapons since childhood, and his favorite superhero movie featured a rescuer whose identity was set as someone who traveled from an ancient forest to modern society. His main weapon was a bow and arrow.
Regrettably, in his subsequent experiments, he confirmed time and time again that ancient weapons were no match for modern science.
People always need to adapt to new versions; otherwise, they are quickly eliminated by them.
Now that he had finally seen cold weapons used as templates for Void weapons, how could he not be excited?
Spicy Chicken believed the company would certainly be excited too. To celebrate the mysterious merchant Ge Fu’s first weapon sale, this weapon would have to be sold to the company for a lucky price of 88,888 watts.
"I understand."
Hearing this, Emily finally understood, "You are shills!"
Just like those in the marketplace who took dirty money and lured customers into buying expensive goods.
"You clearly don’t understand at all."
Upon hearing this, the mayor of Sheep Village had to speak up. Never one to boast, he had always conducted business with the principle of treating customers fairly, never deceiving young or old. He never imagined that he, a straightforward merchant, could one day be mistaken as a shill.
"Although this mysterious merchant always sells strange things at exorbitant prices, all his goods are absolutely unique, not found anywhere else. These weapons might look like mere cold weapons, but they contain hidden mechanisms... Spicy Chicken, come and broaden her horizons."
"Leave it to me."
Spicy Chicken picked up the bow, but three seconds later, he noticed a problem.
There were no arrows for sale at the weapon stall.
"Old Ge, how can I use this bow without arrows?"
"If you’re sure you want to buy it, I’ll tell you the specific way to use it."
Ge Fu heard the whispering of Emily and others but always disdained arguing with fools. Every item he presented was a masterpiece of his craft, certainly justifying the price.
Spicy Chicken promptly paid the money, and upon seeing the funds transferred to the Bug Swarm account, Ge Fu said, "First, cut open your hand."
Spicy Chicken did as instructed. Before the blade even left the wound on his palm, a change in the bow and arrow startled the onlookers—the grip suddenly sprouted an eye. The scent of blood awakened it, and writhing tentacles swiftly enveloped his entire hand. A mild stinging sensation made him quickly realize the tentacles’ purpose.
They were drawing blood.
Clearly frightened by this scene, Emily stepped back repeatedly, distancing herself from Spicy Chicken.
She also heard Ge Fu’s whisper, sounding like a demon’s, "From now on, it belongs to you."
The bloodletting lasted about half a minute. After absorbing enough nourishment, the eye on the grip closed, the tentacles retracted, and the wound on the palm entirely healed. A wonderful feeling surged through Spicy Chicken’s heart.
He followed his intuition, drew the bowstring, and aimed it at the uninhabited distance.
The next moment, three ink-like arrows struck the building across the street.
Big Radish Head was initially stunned, then quickly followed the trajectory of the arrows. When they saw the wall peppered with dense holes as if blasted by a shotgun, they all wore expressions of disbelief.
However, the Destruction caused by the arrows did not stop there. The part of the wall stained by the ink sprouted tentacles similar to those on the bow, and soon after, an eye opened.
Ge Fu reminded from the side, "Try closing your eyes."
The moment Spicy Chicken closed his eyes, instead of darkness, what greeted him were Big Radish Head and the mayor of Sheep Village, seen through the newly grown eyeball on the building across the street, close enough to observe them both.
"This is the ability of the ’Sentinel.’"
Ge Fu answered the question in their hearts, "This bow is the only one of its kind in the world."
