Chapter 347: Chapter 347: I Made a Deal with a Demon_1

Before the incident in the Fourth Neutral Country, no one understood the Void.

Ivan realized something from his few encounters with "the Rat"—even "the Rat" himself knew nothing about the Void’s existence and didn’t seem able to wield the power that had erupted in the distant suburban prison at will.

But "the Rat’s" recent words proved that he indeed had some subtle connection with the Void. Military Intelligence Section Seven had investigated all data related to him, and there was no intersection in their lives; "the Rat" had no way of knowing his past.

"You heard that voice again,"

Ivan found the only explanation: The enemy hiding in the Void somehow knew of his past, but this was also his chance to confront the Void directly.

"What I have been waiting for is this moment’s arrival!"

The "Rat," stuck to the wall like a mouse on a glue trap, felt his body suddenly lighten. As he fell, an unseen force pushed him straight towards the direction of the platform ruins, where a mass of construction materials had accumulated due to the explosion, sharp enough to make "the Rat" easily foresee his fate of being turned into a porcupine.

This result also stunned Ivan for a long moment, not expecting that the "Void" had been watching them from such a close distance.

He opened his eyes wide, wanting to see clearly the person or object hidden beneath the construction materials.

Fate had closely linked "the Rat" to the source of the voice, and unless either of them died, the connection would not be broken.

"Help—!"

"The Rat" flailed in mid-air, unable to change his flight trajectory in the slightest.

The villain dies from talking too much.

But what he didn’t expect was that he was the villain!

"Thud."

His shouting was interrupted by a faint landing sound, the anticipated pain didn’t come, and the ground felt strangely soft, as though a kind person had cushioned his fall with an airbag.

But the problem was...

"The Rat" couldn’t remember the moment he landed; his last second of thought was still fixated on the image of flying towards the pile of materials.

He slowly opened his eyes, wanting to memorize the face of the kind person, but the sight that greeted him horrified him to the core—it wasn’t an airbag that caught him, but indescribable flesh and tissue, with writhing tentacles wrapping around his body and wrists, an eye filled with blood vessels staring at him from mere centimeters away.

This mentally contaminated image was enough to give anyone nightmares for a month.

Moreover, during that gap, the entire train battle underwent a transformation.

The flames were extinguished, and flesh occupied most of the space.

Not far away, a tree covered with eyes had its roots turn into sprawling flesh, covering everything in sight, and the people affected by the flesh slowly rose from the ground. "The Rat" clearly saw someone maintaining the horrific appearance of having half a head sliced off.

But indeed, they all came back to life.

Facing this nightmarish scenario, he promptly closed his eyes, ignoring the strong nausea, lying stiff on the ground, expressing through his actions what he thought.

—Talk amongst yourselves, I’m already a goner.

"So that’s how it is."

Ivan looked around at the astonishing changes. Though it was still the train platform, it looked more like another space,

Directly linked to "the Rat" was the hub that left the real world and reached the Void!

No wonder Military Intelligence Section Seven couldn’t find the location of the Void; it had always been right beside them!

"Complete this final task, and you will be able to leave the city."

Voices were everywhere.

Ivan couldn’t find the person speaking to him, and as he gazed upward, a giant eye opened on the ceiling covered in flesh. He guessed that the Void was watching him this way, as well as the entire world.

"Then you’ll return to where everything began, to complete the tasks you failed to in the past. Those were the terms they originally offered you."

According to Lu Xiang’s speculation, the only likely time Ivan could have made contact with Military Intelligence Section Seven was when he fled to District Seventeen.

He accepted an invitation from Military Intelligence Section Seven and came to the Gold Diggers’ Bar as bartender Ivan, embarking on a long undercover career.

Indeed, a great detective Lu Xiang was.

During the conversation, Song Lan couldn’t help but admire Lu Xiang’s professional abilities again.

He remembered the first time he met Ivan, the enthusiastic bartender who welcomed him, eagerly recommending his treasured spirits. He seemed able to become friends with anyone in a short time, and he heard that people like Roger would especially go to Gold Diggers’ Bar to have a drink with Ivan.

It was hard to imagine such a carefree person as an undercover agent for Military Intelligence Section Seven.

"I made a deal with a demon."

Ivan removed his suffocating clown mask, having heard that "the last task" was an ominous alias. Before then, who knows how many had fallen to this "last task."

He didn’t know how the Void had learned about his past, but it no longer mattered.

What mattered was that he still had unfinished tasks.

"The demon" had ignited his potential, making him realize that everything was a gift from fate, granting him the power to take and give life during his mission.

He had already gathered enough intelligence, and the final part of this mission was to escape from the Void.

The next moment, an invisible force propelled his body toward the wreckage of the train.

The connecting process lasted several seconds; the train that should have been out of control miraculously roared to life.

In this special place, countless people left their past behind and walked toward an unfamiliar future, and he planned to do the same.

Luck seemed to be on his side; his all-in gambit paid off, and the moving train broke through the obstacles set by the flesh, creating a breach in this world filled with psychic contamination.

The sunlight of the real world shone through, growing brighter and brighter.

Ivan smelled the fresh air; perhaps it was because the train’s windows had all shattered in the previous accident that the outside wind poured unobstructed into the carriage.

The train was about to break out of District Seventeen, leaving behind everything that had happened in the city.

After an indeterminate time, he saw other passengers in another carriage.

The passenger was facing away from him, but his silhouette seemed vaguely familiar.

An intense emotion from the depths of his heart compelled him to approach, even though reason told him the dead should never appear in real life.

His right hand trembling slightly as it reached for the handle, but as he pushed open the door to another carriage, the scene before him suddenly twisted.

The writhing flesh pulled him back into hell, or perhaps the Void.

"Mr. Ivan."

The familiar voice rang out once more, as if no matter where he fled, he could never escape the surveillance of the Void, and he had never truly left District Seventeen.

— "Come make a deal with the Void."
