Chapter 345
Chapter 345: 345
"The deceased was an employee of Kolo Film and Television Media. His daily job involved role-playing in the business park of District Seventeen. The Bear-Headed Man is one of the villains in the Kolo Universe."
The Crime Analysis Department quickly identified the exact identity of Bear Head.
According to past records, the deceased had no criminal history and was a diligent worker. His colleagues at the company said his life goal was to save enough for a dowry and then buy his own house in District Seventeen.
This was a standard "company person." In District Seventeen, there were many others like him.
It is noteworthy that Bear Head did not report to Kolo Film and Television Media first thing in the morning. He had a back problem from overtime work and had taken half a day off today to go to their hospital for a check-up. Bear Head’s primary doctor said he had recently been considering undergoing an operation for a cybernetic implant in his waist to improve the condition of his intervertebral discs.
After the check-up, Bear Head left the hospital but did not return to work at the company; instead, he appeared at Central Lake Park, which was in the opposite direction of Kolo Film and Television Media.
The prosthetic doctor said the deceased was a regular patient there.
Lu Xiang pulled up Bear Head’s medical records from the prosthetic hospital. In addition to the common ailments of most "company people" such as lumbar muscle strain, lumbar disc herniation, and migraines, records from a few years ago also mentioned that he had undergone head chip implantation technology and had signed a 20-year work repayment agreement with Kolo Film and Television Media because of it.
This chip significantly enhanced Bear Head’s memory and computing power. In the words of Kolo Film and Television Media, the chip could help him better understand the majority of the company’s cinematic characters and allow them to role-play more vividly.
Again, the head chip implantation technology.
The "company person" who represented the Review Meeting to negotiate with Selbot, mentioned by Ophir, had also undergone a similar chip implantation. This indicated that Military Intelligence Section Seven was using these chips to control these unrelated individuals to work for them.
However, this investigation brought them a new lead.
Today, the vast majority of people affected by power all had one thing in common—they had all visited this hospital.
It’s possible that Military Intelligence Section Seven agents were still at the hospital, or even right under their noses.
This would allow the agents to be aware of their movements in real-time.
"Director, I’m not sure if I should say this..."
After the special meeting about the deceased had ended, Chief Snick finally swallowed his saliva and asked a question that all the Law Enforcers participating in the meeting wanted to ask, "Can you please finish eating that fried chicken leg?"
He couldn’t fathom how the director managed to conduct a meeting so seriously while holding a fried chicken leg, and what was even more outrageous was that the director had developed a special use for the fried chicken leg—such as using it to replace a laser pointer, gesturing on a temporary whiteboard.
This resulted in quite a few of them getting distracted by the fried chicken leg.
"No."
Lu Xiang’s refusal was direct and clear.
"But I don’t understand."
"You don’t need to understand, you just need to know that it’s very important to me, that’s enough."
.....................
After the meeting ended and the Law Enforcers returned to their respective posts, leaving her alone in the room, she finally dialed Song Lan’s number, "How are things on your end?"
"I have secured the ticket, and the train will be arriving in a quarter of an hour."
This was a high-speed train bound for the Twelfth Nation. After the border trade line was returned to the hands of the Seventeenth District government, they actively promoted the construction of the maglev train route.
Once aboard this train, "Mouse" would leave the Seventeenth District and return to the Esinvig Army’s headquarters.
This time, he seemed determined to leave the Seventeenth District.
However, the poor "Mouse" did not know that his every move was under their surveillance, and those passengers who seemed to be waiting for the train were actually members of the Shadow Guards. Before "Mouse" arrived at the platform, they had already evacuated the other passengers.
The agents of Military Intelligence Section Seven would go out of their way to prevent "Mouse" from leaving the city, as it was their best opportunity to understand the Void.
Seated, "Mouse" checked the time on his ticket several times. This seemingly meaningless repetitive behavior gave him a small sense of relief.
At least in the year 2166, he no longer needed to buy a ticket at the station. He could easily nail down his departure from the Seventeenth District through his mobile phone. Although he had not honorably completed the mission given to him by the Rebel Army, survival was paramount. To understand the Void, one must first be alive.
"Mouse" felt that he was certainly more valuable alive than dead. He believed he could reach consensus on this matter with his brothers and sisters in the Rebel Army.
In an anxious wait, the roar of the train’s motion reached his ears.
For the first time in his life, "Mouse" realized that freedom could be measured in time. For instance, the train would arrive at the station in 3 minutes, and the electronic screen showed the train would stop at the platform for 30 minutes. That meant in 33 minutes, he would be able to leave this place of trouble.
The roar of the train grew closer, the wind blowing across the platform, allowing him to catch a whiff of freedom.
His heart pounded fiercely as he watched the train draw nearer until it deviated from its original track. The sound of its travel on the rails turned into a deafening explosion. Time seemed to slow down, making everything before "Mouse’s" eyes look like the exaggerated special effects from blockbuster movies.
Train carriages flew out, crashing into the platform walls, creating a hole.
Flames made the temperature inside the platform spike. "Mouse" sat motionless in the waiting room chair, watching debris scattered by the collision and explosion hitting the people around him.
The passengers who had been waiting for the train with him fell to the ground, their blood slowly spread across the floor.
"Mouse" felt like he had become the luckiest person in the station, as the debris, which fell like weapons, had avoided him.
He did not know how long the noise around him lasted. When everything stopped, there was no longer a single standing person inside the station.
Then, a figure emerged from the depths of the inferno.
The figure panted heavily, looking as if he had just undergone intense physical exertion. He wore a costume headpiece resembling Bear Head.
"I finally made it..."
The newcomer let out a long sigh of relief, steadied himself before continuing, "Mr. ’Mouse,’ welcome to the Seventeenth District, no... welcome back to the territory of the United Government. I hope you can stay here a little longer."
"I refuse."
"Mouse" preempted the attack, clenching the weapon he had taken from the scene in the morning. The blood of the last assailant he had fought still clung to the weapon.
However, this time, before he could even lift his arm, an invisible force snatched the dagger from his hand.
The dagger was pinned to the wall behind him in a manner that defied the laws of physics.
The man in the clown headpiece said to him, "We hope you will cooperate with our investigation."
