Chapter 321: Chapter 321: May the Sun Guide Your Way_1
Prison Break.
After seeing the pattern drawn on the wall, these two words popped into Song Lan’s mind.
There had been a TV series where the protagonist tattooed the prison’s blueprint on his body and willingly got incarcerated to implement a prison break plan, and the only person Song Lan could think of who had the capacity and daring to execute such a plan on Aljom’s turf was Lu Xiang’s teacher.
And this perfectly explained why she, as a Spy Master, would disguise herself with an identity that would be easily seen through, and why she allowed herself to be captured and brought back here without any resistance.
The insect in front of him was not a Horn Bug’s kin, but rather some form of technology developed by the United Government.
Realizing this, Song Lan immediately dismissed the tactic of making friends and, instead, behaved like a wild Horn Bug, showing fearfulness and quickly scurrying to the side.
Only after the other’s attention returned to their map-making did he begin a long observation.
And this observation lasted for most of the night.
Nighttime is when people’s spirits are at their weakest, and although there were still Cavalry on night patrol in the prison, their intensity was much lower than during the day.
Song Lan patiently waited until he was sure the other had left before controlling the Horn Bug warrior to approach the wall’s blueprint. After carefully reading the blueprint, he gradually understood the obscure symbols on the right side; the majority of them represented locations and certain hints.
The prison’s structure was far more complicated than he had imagined, with its dark environment and sealed cells. Even after being incarcerated for nearly three days, Lu Xiang’s teacher had not yet grasped the specific situation of the prisoners.
From these symbols, it was quite apparent that she was looking for someone, which seemed to be one of her reasons for infiltrating this place, and it was also very likely to be the reason why the Cavalry did not execute her, the spy, immediately but instead brought her all the way back to this city.
An hour later, Song Lan had an answer to the question that had been troubling him.
Just as he was about to find a safe place to log off and sleep, the noise coming from beneath the ventilation duct drew his attention.
He heard a familiar name from the prison guards’ conversation—Aljom.
The arrival of Aljom put the prison guards into a state of high alert. Chasing Aljom’s footsteps, Song Lan passed through several areas and eventually arrived at an unfamiliar one.
With a "squeak," the door to the cell opened.
The light under the ventilation duct was still dim, and from this angle, only two dark figures could be seen. Before he could make out the conversation inside the cell, the sound of movement in the duct, growing louder as it neared, forced him to hide deeper into the darkness.
The insect drawing maps reappeared.
But this time, it acted much more boldly. After the cell door opened, it leaped straight down from the ventilation duct and quietly crept into the cell.
The conversation in the cell did not last long and ended in an unhappy departure.
The door to the cell closed again, and the sound of footsteps gradually faded away, leaving only darkness and deathly silence behind.
"Lord Veirdo."
After who knows how long, a mechanical synthesized female voice echoed in the cell, sounding exceptionally clear in this absolutely silent environment.
The far-sighted Song Lan followed the ventilation duct in a large circle and touched the other end of the room by the water pipes; without the soundproofing of the cell, he might have missed this conversation.
In the past few days, he had heard this name more than once.
The former leader of the Neutral Country, who, during his term, had faced opposition to sign the Neutral Country Covenant with the United Government, had as his greatest desire to lead the people of his nation back to living on the surface of the Earth.
The United Government held Veirdo in high regard, sharply criticized Aljom for subverting Veirdo’s regime, and expressed profound condolences for the deceased Veirdo.
However, for the people of the Fourth Neutral Country, Veirdo was a sinner. The Aljom Army accused him of breaking the oath made before the war, thirsting for power so much that he was willing to cooperate with the United Government and let the entire nation become a puppet of the United Government.
Until today, Song Lan had thought that Veirdo had perished in the coup at the time.
Yet, if one were to calculate the time, it would mean that Veirdo had been imprisoned in this dark cell for over a decade!
Song Lan couldn’t help but worry about his mental state.
"I never thought you would actually come."
The other voice was low and hoarse, as dry as straw brushed by the wind.
For so long, he had heard no other voice in his cell.
Yet, facing the one who might rescue him from this place, his voice lacked any hint of joy, "It seems that Aljom’s assessment of you wasn’t entirely wrong."
After the coup, his former staff had repeatedly asked the United Government for help. However, all the meticulously planned rescue operations to avoid Aljom’s attention ended up in vain, with no action taken by the United Government beyond moral condemnation.
After more than a decade, his staff had long been dismantled by the intelligence department established by Aljom, leaving only an elder waiting for death in this cell.
Just when Veirdo had lost all hope of restoring his reputation, the United Government’s agents appeared before him.
"I can’t help but wonder, after all these years, what has changed that made you alter your minds?"
Did Aljom cause some new disturbance?
Or has the Cavalry of the Fourth Neutral Country developed to a point where even the United Government cannot ignore?
Or did the meeting with Esinvig alert them to a crisis?
These would all be excuses offered by the United Government’s envoys, but to Veirdo, none of them were the real reasons. The true motive stemmed from a recent mistake by the intelligence department, which led to the leak of some secrets about the Fourth Neutral Country.
An energy source not mastered by the United Government emerged before them, just the tip of the iceberg.
Suddenly, the invincible intelligence department was breached.
The United Government’s agents even infiltrated this cell under the nose of Aljom, arriving before him.
Veirdo chuckled coldly, "If you’ve come for the ’Sun,’ you’d better give up hope."
"My mission is to rescue you from the Fourth Neutral Country."
The mechanical female voice neither confirmed nor denied.
"I don’t need your help."
"Mr. Veirdo, I’m not seeking your opinion; I’m merely stating a fact—the prison break is planned for a few days from now, and I hope you will be prepared then."
The mechanical female voice continued, "This isn’t entirely for you, it’s also for the justice of the world."
