Chapter 310: Chapter 310: Playing House with a Spy_1
The hover car landed on the street, enveloped by the night, and Lu Xiang felt completely relaxed, body and soul, after a full day’s work.
The two exchanged greetings with Grandpa Li, the gatekeeper, and entered the elevator.
As the elevator numbers flickered, Lu Xiang stood on her tiptoes, her hands wrapping around Song Lan’s neck from behind as she hung her whole body against him.
She had decided she was in a state of sore waist, back pain, and leg cramps, needing Song Lan to carry her home.
With a "ding," the elevator doors slowly opened.
"Song Lan, tonight I feel like eating—"
As the dim light from outside the elevator poured in, Lu Xiang’s eyes bulged at the sight of the woman who appeared suddenly at the door. Clearly, the woman was no less surprised than she was.
After a few seconds of staring, Lu Xiang buried her face in Song Lan’s back like an ostrich, pretending the other couldn’t see her.
The woman recovered from the shock first and said, "Seeing you like this, I’m quite relieved now."
She had heard complaints about Lu Xiang’s inhumane behavior from some street thugs. Now, the legend of Lu Xiang was circulating among the gangs in District Seventeen, portraying her as a more brutal figure than Chai Ke, someone from whom there was no escape, either life or death.
This led her to believe that Lu Xiang was psychologically troubled after being rejected by the Bureau of Unusual Case Investigation and then being transferred to an urban district like Seventeen, under a prolonged oppressive environment, and had come prepared to offer psychological counseling.
However, upon meeting her, she encountered such a scene.
The entire teaching staff and students at school would never dream that Lu Xiang could be so lively and cheerful, hanging on someone else like a koala.
There was no sign of her suffering from any psychological disorder at all.
"...Hello, Teacher."
Seeing the woman initiating the conversation, Lu Xiang pondered for a while and could only muster up these three words.
However, she showed no intention of coming down from Song Lan’s back because she really needed someone to carry her back home now, as the unexpected social death she was experiencing was making her legs go weak.
In the face of this sudden situation, Song Lan stepped forward, warmly welcoming the mysterious woman whom Lu Xiang referred to as "Teacher."
Home visits in the year 2166.
Only this time, the visitor wasn’t a cultural studies teacher but a famous Spy Master from the United Government.
Due to her profession as a spy, she was the only one at school whose name was never revealed, and students usually addressed her simply as "Teacher."
"You haven’t had dinner yet, Teacher, we were just about to have ours."
Using the same address as Lu Xiang, Song Lan took on the impromptu task of entertaining the teacher because as soon as Lu Xiang got home, she made straight for the bedroom under the pretext of "changing clothes," locked the door, and no sound came from there for a long time.
"How long have you two been talking?"
The teacher, far from displaying the dignity of a Spy Master, instead lowered her voice while Lu Xiang was out of the room and asked gossipy.
"A few months now."
"So it’s been just a few months, and it’s already progressed this far. Not bad."
The teacher gave Song Lan high praise, "Lu Xiang has always been too serious, not really gifted in matters of love."
Obviously, the teacher’s intelligence was outdated.
Her impression of Lu Xiang still lingered on the version of her student days. Ever since Lu Xiang started reading "A Love Tip Every Day," she had been full of tricks, to the point of being indefensible.
"Back when I was at school..."
"Teacher."
After washing her face and changing her clothes, Lu Xiang emerged from the bedroom and interrupted her teacher, but after interrupting, she found herself at a loss for words. She sat opposite the teacher with restraint, the two staring at each other in silence.
This was the instructor of the "Espionage and Intelligence Studies" course and the highest-level rescuer they had come in contact with at school.
It was said that the teacher received the Five Stars Rescuer Medal from the United Government a long time ago. Teaching was just her side job; she was normally the head of the United Government’s Counter-Intelligence Department.
The most mysterious thing about the teacher was that, although they could see her several times a week, everything about her was presented as campus legend. Even the identities of Five-Star Rescuer and head of the Counter-Intelligence Department were passed down through word of mouth among the students, with no one providing concrete evidence.
Some students had also tried to directly inquire about information from the teacher, but the only result was that they got nothing and inadvertently exposed all their little secrets.
"We’re not at school now, don’t be so tense."
The teacher said with a smile, noticing that Lu Xiang had subconsciously reverted to her classroom demeanor, sitting up straight and keeping her gaze fixed on her without wavering.
"Teacher, did you come to District Seventeen especially this time?"
"I’m just passing through. I need to take a trip ’outside’ this time."
The teacher said, "I happened to see some news reports about you at the airport, so I specifically came to check on you. I really didn’t expect they would eventually assign you here, but being away from the core areas at this critical juncture might not be a bad thing."
Lu Xiang had been a student she held in high regard, thinking the girl could make her mark in the Anomaly Investigation Bureau. But the school had ultimately let such a promising seedling leave the core area.
Hearing this, Lu Xiang did not continue to ask questions.
As the head of the Counter-Intelligence Department, her trip to the "outside" naturally couldn’t be for tourism. Lu Xiang speculated it might be related to the Wild Bone incident that happened recently.
After that event, not only did it create the first bounty over ten figures for the Rebel Army, but the greater impact on the United Government was the loss of the Wild Bone chip and the military-grade prosthetics. The Review Meeting certainly didn’t want these technologies to fall into the hands of the Rebel Army.
But at the same time, Lu Xiang also secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
At least the teacher wasn’t coming for the "concerned citizen."
"Actually, small cities have their own advantages."
The teacher, savoring the aroma of the food, reminisced about the scene she had just witnessed in the elevator—at least in this city, there were none of those meaningless political games. However, considering the reputation that Lu Xiang had been building among the large companies in the past few days, that day might come sooner or later.
And District Seventeen was a very sensitive area. It had become no-man’s-land as a result of the standoff between the Conservative Faction and the Innovator Faction.
After the Foster Family withdrew, no one was willing to take over this mess.
"A war is about to start, you need to be careful."
Originally, as a public official of the United Government, she shouldn’t have mentioned these things to Lu Xiang, but after seeing the changes in this city, she decided to break some rules.
Besides, some things needed to be said while there was still a chance, or they might never have the opportunity again.
"I will, don’t worry, teacher."
"That’s good."
The teacher smiled faintly, shifting the topic so swiftly that Lu Xiang was caught off guard, "How far have you two progressed?"
Even Lu Xiang, who was accustomed to facing storms, couldn’t help but blush at this question.
And her reaction was enough to inform the teacher of everything.
"Not bad, not bad."
Before Lu Xiang could speak, she continued, "Don’t forget to invite me when it’s time for the wedding toast."
