Chapter 306: Chapter 306: The Sacred F2A Connects Everyone_1
"Our troops have suffered devastating losses!"
Wave after wave of tragic news reached the meeting room, darkening Aleye’s expression more and more.
Since those monsters appeared, it took less than a quarter of an hour for his troops to fall into complete disarray. Tanks purchased at great cost from the Barrosa Group hadn’t been able to make a difference before they were undermined by the bugs and sank into the earth.
They had never fought against such monsters before. The swarming bugs awakened people’s deepest fears, and communications were cut off.
Even those who had luckily survived the bugs’ assault began to think about retreating.
Aleye glared angrily at the research team inside the room, but judging by the trembling of these few people, it seemed they didn’t understand this force comprised solely of bugs either.
This sudden crisis caught him off guard until a voice came through the walkie-talkie:
"Treat every shot as if it’s your last, and don’t be afraid to die!"
Aleye looked out the window in astonishment. Amidst the baptism of the teeming bug swarm, a person carrying a heavy machine gun, fearlessly facing the bugs, stood out conspicuously.
The appearance of this person seemed to ignite everyone’s fighting spirit, rallying the once scattered troops back together.
Although it was a voice Aleye had never heard before, the moment the other side chose not to flee and faced the bug swarm, he became a hero among humans.
Aleye watched the fearless figure intently, until he was completely swallowed by that "black cloud."
This person was Song Lan.
In the despairing flight, his emergence kindled hope in everyone.
At his call and by setting an example, those who were previously running headlong, lying on the ground playing dead, and hiding in buildings and shelters seemed to be connected by a certain consciousness. They picked up their guns and roared as they followed Song Lan’s lead.
The gunfire made the town seem like it was daylight. They were no longer afraid of the bug swarm, marching straight forward as if to challenge fate itself.
Then...
A wave was thoroughly sent off.
When the dark cloud woven by the bugs dispersed, the little town returned to its previous dead silence.
They burrowed in swarms into the giant creatures that had come up through the ground, and then the creatures burrowed back underground, leaving only a few startlingly large holes.
On the streets of the town, bodies lay forming a continuous line.
The "heroically sacrificed" Song Lan lay spread-eagled on the cold floor, looking up at the starry sky, enjoying the brief tranquillity after the battle.
This was the standard ending to a human war against the bug swarm.
Soon enough, he heard footsteps approaching from far to near. Those footsteps seemed to be heading straight for him and eventually stopped in front of him.
"What are you doing now?"
As Song Lan looked towards the source of the voice, the first thing he saw was Lu Xiang’s shapely legs. His gaze traveled upward, meeting Lu Xiang’s speechless expression.
"Director Lu, my task is done."
"I don’t recall assigning you this task."
She was surprised to discover that Song Lan had thrown himself into battle on his own, taking up Aleye’s Troops’ heavy machine gun and joining the assault on the bug swarm.
But from the outcome, it was akin to a suicide charge that greatly hastened the demise of Aleye’s army.
"On the battlefield, a stupid commander can be more terrifying than the enemy."
Just now, with scarce manpower and military resources, he had led the remnants of Aleye’s Troops in a F2A charge.
By his actions, he demonstrated to the Devourers the dangers of this tactic, hoping the bug swarm would learn from it and take heed.
Meanwhile, under the grand cover from outside, the Shadow Guards had already completed their point-by-point sweep. Now, all that was left for them was the final target.
Aleye.
At this moment, he heard the sound of footsteps gradually approaching, looking at the long corridor illuminated by the thermal cutting blade in the distance.
At least this time, he was not facing those incomprehensible monsters outside, but a group of humans with the same level of prosthesis modification as him.
In this instant, Aleye finally understood the other party’s purpose.
He gritted his teeth and revealed his thermal cutting blade, "Don’t underestimate me, I am—"
Before he could take a step, a bullet that raced through the air pierced through his skull.
Blood splattered all over the walls.
"Headshot, hit."
The command center in the rubbish dump of District 17 received Anfiya’s report, "Target Aleye confirmed dead."
"...Are you people from the company?"
The members of the research team in the meeting room were seriously frightened.
As far as they knew, the rescue team did not possess the ability to control those monsters.
"Our mission is to get you out of here."
Sammuen, temporarily acting as the leader of the Shadow Guards, retrieved the collar’s code from Aleye’s body. As the six of them were rejoicing and stretching their limbs, an injection was administered into their bloodstream.
This injection would ensure they slept soundly until the next morning and completely forgot what had happened in this town.
.....................
The next morning.
A familiar number appeared on Hog Foster’s cellphone screen.
His lips curled upward slightly, not expecting Man Sheng Biopharmaceutical to call back so soon. He had extolled Lu Xiang to the skies on the phone yesterday. Now they must be calling to berate Lu Xiang for not living up to the hype.
With this in mind, Hog Foster answered the call.
The hijacked research team was safe.
From the release of the commission to bringing the team back to District 17, it took them less than half a day, which was much more efficient than the rescue team from the head office.
Man Sheng Biopharmaceutical’s executives spent a full ten minutes expressing their appreciation for Lu Xiang, and mentioned that they had invested funds in the local Law Enforcers department, hoping to establish a long-term collaboration.
In the past, when the subsidiary encountered problems in District 17, they mostly looked to the Foster Family for solutions, but when compared to Lu Xiang’s efficiency, the Foster Family simply wasn’t as satisfactory.
In conclusion, they indirectly expressed that they will no longer contact the Foster Family in the future, but will communicate directly with Lu Xiang instead.
...
After hanging up the phone, Hog Foster’s brain was still in a muddled state.
He glanced at the time.
The company executive had praised Lu Xiang for nearly a quarter of an hour, so much so that his mind hadn’t quite caught up yet.
Why did Lu Xiang manage to rescue people from Aleye’s clutches in less than half a day?
That was a famous warlord from the "outside world," someone who had absolute control of the local area, and even directly led to his nation not joining the neutral Covenant Nation!
Where did they get the manpower?
Hog Foster stared at his phone for a long time.
This way, wasn’t he just shooting himself in the foot?
He couldn’t help thinking about the recent media evaluations of himself, and suddenly, in a fit of rage, he picked up his phone and viciously threw it onto the floor.
He, Hog Foster, was no clown!
