Chapter 279: Chapter 279: Education Issues_1

The Heavy Cannon’s summary was nothing short of astonishing, and even Lu Xiang was taken aback by it.

But the clever girl quickly saw through the problem and grasped its essence. Back when they were in the pit, they had discovered that Xinyue’s egg-laying did not have to follow the laws of nature. Adding to that the break room, a place bustling with people, she quickly concluded that Song Lan was likely just discussing work.

Recently, he had been obsessing over the "Flying Dragon" troop type, even mumbling incomprehensible dream talk like "Flying Dragon rides the face" in his sleep last night.

Essentially, all research on the Devourers was aimed at resolving the military stationing issue in District 17.

After their fallout with the Foster Family, they could only rely on their own strength to bolster the city’s defenses. While Lu Xiang had little hope for this, Song Lan had forcefully carved out a path for the Bug Swarm.

This propelled her from being a manager in the Law Enforcers department to the leader of the Bug Swarm.

The inclusion of Oleg’s Squad had addressed the medical issues, and in a sense, District 17 was now on a thriving developmental path, though their technology tree seemed somewhat different from other places.

The stationed forces were not entirely human, or not composed solely of humans.

When she went downstairs, Song Lan was lying on the long couch in the break room, legs crossed, with his arms outstretched, seemingly enjoying the fruits of his recent labor.

He had not only resolved the issue with the stationed forces but also transformed the notoriously messy dump into an underground research facility.

Regrettably, new problems were waiting for them.

"The personnel from the Shadow Guards have reverted to their respective lives; now we’re just left with Anfiya’s issue to resolve."

Doctor Oleg lived up to his reputation as a renowned Prosthetic Doctor. He fixed Anfiya’s problem with her nervous feedback system the very night he arrived in District 17, restoring her language function to normal.

But Anfiya’s situation was somewhat special.

"I inquired this morning, and because of her unexplained absence, the school has already expelled her. She now has nowhere to go."

Although they could let Anfiya stay at the dump to work in security, Lu Xiang always felt that for her, diving into work now seemed a bit too soon. "Falena and I discussed it, and she might be able to use her connections to get Anfiya back into school."

During their absence, Falena had managed to re-establish contact with Unified Technology, leading them to temporarily believe that the situation in District 17 had stabilized. Whether the management truly believed Falena or were looking to spy on the secrets of the Bug Swarm through her was unknowable.

Lu Xiang pondered and felt that school was more fitting for a child of Anfiya’s age, "We could send Al to school with her; they could look out for each other."

She had already been contemplating Al’s education.

Although Song Lan’s Spiritual Energy was immensely strong, he was definitely not a good teacher. With hardly any theoretical foundation himself, his teaching style was haphazard at best, like instructing a child who hadn’t mastered middle school mathematics to learn calculus.

Sometimes, when she heard Song Lan explain the principles of Spiritual Energy use to Al, she couldn’t understand what he was on about at all.

If Al’s Spiritual Energy question was an arithmetic problem, Song Lan’s approach to solving it would be akin to writing a word "Solution," followed by phrases like "obviously" or "easily proven," skipping all the intermediate steps to arrive at the answer.

She felt that perhaps, at this stage, what Al needed was to learn some basic knowledge about Spiritual Energy.

"Falena mentioned that this class is equivalent to the school’s special admissions class, specifically targeting flesh, prosthetics, and Spiritual Energy education. It’s also known as the rescuer preparatory class, and most of those assigned to it are executives from the big local corporations."

In District 17, students typically have two paths after graduation.

Either they are assigned to work at a company, becoming a proud "corporate person," or they head to the core areas to further their studies. If they are lucky, they might even earn a silver star medal representing rescuers.

"Didn’t they say there are no rescuers here? Could this class be a scam just to swindle money?"

Having witnessed countless institutions embezzling money under the guise of education since 2020, Song Lan was skeptical.

"That’s right, to become a rescuer one must head to the core area after graduation. According to the data given by Falena, at most one or two students in a class will eventually receive a Silver Star Medal."

Fortunately, now as ’parents’, they didn’t need to worry about Anfiya’s development issues.

With her current level of prosthetic implantation, she would easily obtain a one-star Silver Star Medal.

"What about the other children?"

Song Lan felt that these numbers were very unreliable.

"They will stay in their respective educational institutions to work in education. Although some may never become rescuers, they can still teach many rescuers. Those who achieve theoretical research outcomes during their school years may get invitations from research departments to become scientific researchers."

Research on the body, prosthetics, and Spiritual Energy has always been the trend of the United Government.

"Falena said she would allocate a fund to support Anfiya."

The tuition for classes associated with rescuers naturally amounts to an astronomical figure. The budget of the Law Enforcers department has been stretched thin recently, with the bulk of the funding from Princess Lieyang going towards the construction and research of the landfill facilities, and they still face pressing financial issues. "Elmon’s situation is a bit special; he can sit in on classes."

Even if Falena could allocate more funds, they wouldn’t let Elmon become a registered student.

Given his uniqueness, if word got out to the research departments of the United Government, they would take Elmon away for research immediately.

"Having both children attend school together can be mutually beneficial, and they won’t be lonely."

"Let’s do it this way, then. Shall I speak to Anfiya later?"

"Don’t rush it; there is still another issue now."

"Hmm?"

"About Anfiya’s guardianship, Falena is willing to take on the role, but Anfiya doesn’t seem too happy about it."

After all, her parents died due to a conspiracy by Unified Technology, and Falena was involved in that commission, causing Anfiya to have a great aversion to her and Unified Technology.

"Dr. Bai Zhu, Medea, Doctor Oleg, and Ge Fu are all unsuitable for public appearances."

Lu Xiang thought it over carefully and realized that the composition of these researchers they hired was too complex, almost as if it was embarrassing for them not to have high bounties on their heads when reporting to their location.

The combined bounties on these few people might even exceed those of criminals in the distant suburbs prison.

"I understand."

Song Lan’s scalp tingled, "You want me to become Anfiya’s guardian."

"Not just you."

Lu Xiang shook his head, saying, "We’ll do it together."
