As the research team in the junkyard commenced their working meeting, Song Lan was also busy with his tasks.

"This is what we have come to understand."

He relayed the entire day’s investigation results to Anfiya, "Although you can continue to trouble the ’Hyena’ remnants, the real cause of all this is the management layer of Unified Technology."

In the core district, the big corporation managers needed only a single sentence to alter the fates of countless individuals.

In that "Awakener List," Anfiya’s experience was not unique. While they were discussing this, awakeners chosen by corporations in other cities were still enduring everything she had gone through.

"It’s now 10:21 PM, welcome to News Channel 54, I am John William..."

Emotionally stirred, Anfiya tried to say something, but due to the malfunction of her operating system, it was still impossible to make out what she was attempting to express.

"I know you are agitated, but don’t rush; listen to what I have to say at your own pace."

That was his purpose for seeking out Anfiya, "The company is different from the street thugs you’ve encountered before. They are not opponents that can be dealt with just a ’Red Star TR-3000’ and a few EMP bombs, to my knowledge, they have developed a Humanoid Weapon known as the Transcendent, whose sole existence is to contend with individuals like you."

To Anfiya, or most people for that matter, fate was never fair.

Following her intended trajectory, she would have joined the company unwittingly, eliminated the targets of vengeance the company wished her to confront, and thereafter blindly devoted herself to serving the company, and even if one day she discovered this secret, she would only face the hunt by Transcendents.

Objectively speaking, the prosthetic performance of Transcendents was far superior to that of Anfiya.

"Therefore, whatever your plans are now, you need strategy, as well as a team that can help you realize those plans."

Song Lan said, "What we need to do next is to recruit a trustworthy prosthetic doctor to fix your issue, and until then, you can continue to stay here."

As the Head of Human Resources, personally appointed by Director Lu, he had recently been worn out by recruitment endeavors.

Anfiya’s prosthetic capabilities were superior even to the current members of the Shadow Guards, and it was exceedingly rare to retain full autonomous consciousness while also being an effective sniper.

The Shadow Guards needed someone capable of carrying out long-range precision strikes.

And he still had to contemplate establishing a medical team.

Anfiya took a few deep breaths and tried hard to contain her excitement. She fell silent and merely nodded at Song Lan.

After parting with Anfiya, the discussion within the scientific research group was coming to a close. When Song Lan entered, he caught Falena politely declining Ge Fu’s fervent invitation to visit his Horn Bug research laboratory.

"Falena, I have something to discuss with you."

Hearing this, Falena seemed to have found a savior and quickly extricated herself from Ge Fu.

"Then I will take you to my Horn Bug laboratory tomorrow!"

Ge Fu still wouldn’t give up and called out behind her.

As a colleague, he wished everyone could understand the marvels of the Horn Bug species; he had even invited the newly joined ’Heavy Cannon’ mercenary team to his laboratory for a tour.

After his lengthy research and modifications, the current King Bug could be described as having undergone a complete metamorphosis, and his next plan was to apply the concept of Overload systems to the King Bug, and then to establish a specialized unit of Horn Bugs capable of using the Overload system!

Ge Fu’s excitement grew as he thought about it, feeling he must find a lucky audience to share his brilliant ideas with.

"Medea, do you have time later?"

"No."

Firmly, Medea answered, clutching the materials she had prepared for the meeting, and fled back to her biological laboratory as if escaping.

She would rather stare at a reagent bottle in a daze all evening than listen to Ge Fu prattle on endlessly about the future of Horn Bugs.

"Bai Zhu, what do you say?"

"I’ve also got an appointment."

Bai Zhu pointed at Director Lu, "We have some more matters to discuss with Director Lu after this."

After a disappointed glance around the meeting room, Ge Fu suddenly thought of something and yelled into the intercom, "Heavy Cannon, what are you guys doing now?"

The bewildered "Heavy Cannon" quickly replied through the intercom, "Aren’t you in a meeting? We’re patrolling the perimeter to prevent any suspicious individuals from sneaking in."

"The meeting has ended, come here for a moment, I want to show you an exceedingly brilliant idea!"

"Has he always been like this?"

Having witnessed this scene, Falena finally understood why Medea had warned her to be wary of Ge Fu after the meeting had ended.

"All in all, Ge Fu is a very excellent engineer; he always comes up with many brilliant ideas." Song Lan expressed his opinion about the chief engineer as tactfully as possible, "His little problem might just be that he’s a bit of a chatterbox."

Once you ask Ge Fu any question, he would endeavor to explain it comprehensively, in the style of an academic paper, and since he was the only engineer in the junkyard, one often had no choice but to consult him about the function of many research findings.

Ge Fu would always try to take him back to the beginning of the research, to ensure he thoroughly understood the whole history of the findings.

The advantage was that after his description, you could understand everything about these research results.

The downside was that now, any time Song Lan asked Ge Fu a question, he had to prepare for it to take at least half an hour or more.

"I need to ask you about something, do you know where we can recruit some decent prosthetic doctors?"

The other three researchers shared one trait: once they started their research, they would become oblivious to everything else and focus on their work to the point of neglecting sleep and food, so they were not very knowledgeable about matters outside the laboratory.

But Falena was different; she was the current branch manager of Unified Technology and could alleviate some of his pressure on human resources issues.

"Recruit prosthetic doctors?"

Falena pondered and then said, "All the prosthetic doctors related to the Awakener project have been called back to the headquarters by the company, the rest are just responsible for the routine maintenance of the employees’ prosthetics, and their level is not much different from that of the doctors in a regular prosthetic hospital... When you talk about recruiting, you’re probably referring to doctors who understand the maintenance technology of military-grade prosthetics, right?"

"Of course."

"It’s hard to find one, many military-grade prosthetics may involve some core technologies of the company, and hence these doctors are considered important assets by the company. Currently, there is probably nobody in District Seventeen who can meet your requirements."

She continued, "Actually, ever since a moment ago, I’ve been wanting to ask you something. If you can answer my question, I might be able to recall some things about prosthetic doctors."

"Ask away."

"Who exactly are you?"

Curiosity filled her eyes as by name, Lu Xiang was the leader of the Bug Swarm, yet Song Lan was neither a member of the research team nor part of the Shadow Guards, but was still brought to such an important place by Lu Xiang.

This made her intensely curious about Song Lan’s identity.

For a moment, she could not understand what role this man before her played within the Bug Swarm.

"Me?"

Song Lan looked puzzled, "I’m just a recruiter."
