Chapter 235: Chapter 235: Mechanical Creation_1
In fact, shortly after getting in the car, Bai Zhu sensed something was amiss.
While the others were rejoicing over Song Lan’s wit, she discovered that she, as a hacker, couldn’t hack into the onboard system of this SUV at all.
Intelligent navigation systems are common, but they are also among the easiest systems for hackers to invade. The system in this car was similar to common intelligent navigation, but it also had something else that she couldn’t understand.
The car, it seemed, actually had its own autonomous consciousness.
Because as soon as she entered the system, she was kicked out.
At least Bai Zhu was certain that Song Lan had just lied—the car wasn’t something picked up from a junkyard and casually modified to this extent.
It only looked like a two- or three-decades-old product of the Rebel Clan from the outside, but the intelligent system and automated turret on the vehicle were no less advanced than any armor on the market today, not to mention that she clearly noticed Song Lan didn’t operate it at all when the turret was firing.
No one would install such technology in a car picked up from a junkyard.
Yet, judging by Song Lan’s reaction, he was neither an agent of the United Government nor a member of the Rebel Army.
Could it be...
The Barrosa Group?
That was the only possibility Bai Zhu could think of. In the "outside world," the Barrosa Group dominated arms sales, and she had heard they were recently engaged in genetic engineering research and had sold large quantities of CTEA-32 to Neutral Countries for warfare.
Thinking this, she stealthily scanned Song Lan with her prosthetic eye.
The conclusion was that this man, hailed by Heavy Cannon as an anti-terrorist elite, seemed to be just an ordinary person without any prosthetic body parts. His physical strength was also quite average, clearly not having undergone any kind of physical training or genetic enhancements.
Then, Bai Zhu made a new discovery.
This was a byproduct of activating her prosthetic eye’s measuring function, but this discovery was far more astonishing than everything before—the Rebel Army’s vehicles chasing them always maintained nearly the same distance from them, fluctuating by no more than five meters.
She sat in the back seat, carefully measuring the distance between herself and the Rebel Army.
No matter how forcefully they accelerated or had to slow down due to the booster cooling off, the five-meter distance fluctuation wouldn’t change.
This proved that the car’s intelligent system was extremely refined.
After weighing it over, she did not expose Song Lan, but acted as if she knew nothing.
There were still some things she couldn’t figure out.
If this anti-terrorist elite truly was from the Barrosa Group, then the best scenario for him would be to hit the road alone with her and the chip. However, when Heavy Cannon suggested staying behind to cover him, he immediately rejected the offer.
No matter his identity, he seemed to truly want to save these mercenaries.
"Damn it—!"
Heavy Cannon’s characteristically loud voice startled Bai Zhu, but it was immediately drowned out by a roar that was much closer.
An object that had fallen from the sky almost landed at the rear of the car, and through the SUV’s rear window, she clearly saw Wild Bone’s face, which had been rendered unrecognizable due to prosthetic modifications.
A pair of military-grade advanced prosthetic eyes were staring at them, which meant Wild Bone had received the basic information from inside the SUV.
"Wild Bone, that bastard’s caught up to us!"
"I know."
As he spoke, Ghost already emerged from the upper hatch, setting up for the snipe.
With a gunshot that rivaled a cannon blast, an armor-piercing bullet accurately hit Wild Bone’s forehead amidst the shaking of the vehicle.
It was a hit!
But the bad news was, the armor-piercing bullet didn’t even leave a dent.
Then another round from a man-portable rocket launcher greeted Wild Bone—a high-explosive anti-tank round sparked into flame, yet the mechanical creature standing at the center of the explosion didn’t retreat half a step, not even blinking.
"Damn it, this monster!"
"Heavy Cannon" cursed.
Reading a character setting and seeing it with one’s own eyes are incomparable. They had destroyed many bulletproof vehicles with this rocket launcher before, even hijacking the company’s transport convoys. Yet this powerful weapon couldn’t leave so much as a scratch on Wild Bone.
"Seven biological entities identified"
Feedback came through Wild Bone’s prosthetic eye.
Besides the six people in the car, the off-road vehicle itself was also recognized as an entity, and the combat recording system labeled it as "unknown." In the current biological database of the United Government, there was no record of a creature that resembled an off-road vehicle.
But this still couldn’t explain why he had missed his target just now.
His intention in falling from a height was not to graze past this off-road vehicle. According to his calculations, his landing spot should have been on the front half of the vehicle. The impact of the landing should have been enough to crush the two people in the driver and co-driver seats, as well as the two mercenaries in the second row, into mincemeat.
But as he descended, the off-road vehicle suddenly accelerated, causing him to land at the rear of the vehicle instead.
This car... could actually keep up with an "Overload" system’s enhancement?
Before Wild Bone could commence his pursuit, an even denser barrage of bullets rained down on him.
Rebel Army.
It seemed to include two well-documented rebel leaders and Esinvig himself.
"Temperature anomaly detected, ability presumed to be that of the Witch of the Snow - Aishi"
The suppressive fire was just a smokescreen.
His brain had already pictured what was about to happen— the real attack came from below. Frost had spread to his current location. Once he directed all his attention towards the rebel army, Aishi’s powers would intrude on his mechanisms, initiating a freeze from within and causing a 1-2 second gap in the systems’ response time as they worked to restore normal function.
And at that moment, Esinvig would make his move.
This was their strategy against the interference from the consciousness field, fully aware that even Esinvig’s spiritual energy would be significantly diminished under its effects.
He "saw" all the possible approaches Esinvig could take to get close to him, and the system had already devised strategies for each one.
If it were any other time, he might have enjoyed a bout with this rebel leader, but he had a mission now. Moreover, his prosthetic eye had detected that the off-road vehicle itself belonged to some unknown creature, which possibly, like him, possessed an "Overload" mode.
"I don’t have time to deal with you right now."
A red light flashed in Wild Bone’s prosthetic eye as he aimed his left arm downward.
"Gravity Field activated"
Compared to the earlier fiery explosions, this projectile was inconspicuous in the darkness. However, the moment the projectile hit the ground, the earth within a hundred meter radius around him caved in instantly, and every vehicle within the range of the gravity shell came to a halt at the same moment.
The bulletproof metal frame made a cringe-inducing crunching sound as the crushing weight seemed to flatten the entire vehicle into scrap metal.
"Wild Bone!"
Esinvig clenched his teeth in anger at the sight.
Even if he could break free from the gravity shell’s effect, the men inside the vehicle would no doubt be squashed into pulp.
He ground his teeth in frustration but had no choice but to spread his spiritual energy to prop up the precarious vehicle.
Wild Bone’s blood-red prosthetic eye swept across the rebel army’s convoy.
If this were a duel with Esinvig, the situation would already determine his adversary’s fate.
Concern for subordinates’ safety was undoubtedly a foolish decision, and this proved just how unreliable human judgment was.
"Overload system activated"
In an instant, Wild Bone vanished from the spot and dashed towards the off-road vehicle that was gradually pulling away.
