Chapter 159: Art is an Explosion_1

Chapter 159: Chapter 159: Art is an Explosion_1

Will loved his job and took great pride in his work.

The crux of his profession was providing a farewell concert crafted from explosives for those pompous politicians.

However, the nature of his current job differed slightly from those of the past; the work environment was not the barren desert, surrounded by wind and sand, but rather a glamor-filled metropolis.

Walking down the street, observing the passing vehicles and crowds, the artistic ambiance was everywhere.

That’s right, an explosion is indeed an art form.

Different from mere execution-style killings, the flame that reaches the sky, the deafening blast, and the trembling surface of an entire city—To Will, there was probably no art more refined than this in the world.

The earpiece occasionally transmitted the accompaniment from his comrades.

The melody was a minuet, completely different from his form of artistry.

Interwoven with the music were passionate whispers from someone.

Each obnoxious flirtation provoking laughter on the woman’s end of the earpiece transmission.

"Will, I’m falling in love with this city."

"Lilian, if I remember correctly, aren’t you meant to be keeping a lookout for me?"

The sound at the other end of the earpiece didn’t resemble that of a sniper’s point but rather a high-class social occasion.

That being said, Will wasn’t fazed. He was engrossed in preparing for his next grand performance—in less than a day, the residents of District Seventeen would be privileged enough to witness it live.

This upcoming audience would possibly be his largest yet. To have so many people witnessing his performance, Will felt sincerely delighted, and he couldn’t wait to share the brilliance of the show with others.

"I’ve surveyed the terrain on-site and made some unexpected discoveries."

The searchlight illuminated his path ahead. Regardless of whether Lilian was interested, he started talking to himself, "The closest subway line is less than 200 meters from the city’s central square. Just by slightly extending the range of the explosion, we can collapse the surface on the left side of the square.

"The more exquisite part is that the Galaxy Building is also within the blast range."

The Galaxy Building was a landmark structure in district seventeen, situated right in the heart of the downtown area, surrounded by towering buildings as if stars surrounding the moon.

Will could almost visualize the sight of the Galaxy Building collapsing in a blaze, undoubtedly taking the drama of the performance to new heights.

"I can’t wait."

Lilian on the other end abruptly ended the call. Her gaze penetrated the window glass, landing on the towering building on the opposite street.

This kind of grand structure was hard to find in the "outside world."

"Galaxy Building" shone brightly under the night sky.

"Beautiful lady, may I have the pleasure of this dance?"

The young man in the white suit elegantly approached her, gallantly raising her hand.

Lilian shifted her attention back, her smile growing even sweeter in response to the young man’s invitation. She lightly stepped, following his lead to the dance floor.

The nights in District Seventeen were always irresistible, no matter how many times it was experienced, it left people wanting more.

Dancing to the rhythm of the music, and the partner’s motions.

Enjoying this wild revelry to the fullest, before the arrival of dawn.

While everyone else got lost in the long night in the downtown area, Will had finished calculations and exploration and had commenced setting up his explosives on-site.

An excellent performance required careful embellishment from the artist.

The focus of this performance was undoubtedly Aureliano. He would be at the epicenter of the explosion, delighted to witness his own requiem composed of fire and sound waves.

Right ahead lay the foot of Central Square.

This would be the beginning of everything.

Humming a tune that disguised the original melody, Will took out his pre-prepared explosives from the pouch hanging on his waist. Just like an artist, he elegantly and composurely approached the door.

While opening the door, his idle hand unconsciously gestured a salute to the unseen audience.

The invisible audience behind the door received Will’s salute and reciprocated in unison.

—Suddenly, over a dozen gun barrels were aimed at Will’s head.

Huh?

HUH!?!

It took Will a few seconds to fully grasp the situation.

Behind the door was not a long and gloomy underground tunnel but resembled an office space.

The lights were on in the office, filled with special operations squad members who even during rest kept their bulletproof vests on and guns within reach.

Confronted with this situation, Will had no choice but to raise his hands.

Was he dreaming?

Why was he, who should have been under the central square in the downtown area, suddenly in the Law Enforcement Manor?

On the first day they entered District Seventeen, they had studied the city’s entire circuit. The law enforcement headquarters was a city district away from the central square—even with an armored floating car paving the way, it was a journey of more than ten minutes!

However, when Will looked towards the window, he saw the starry night sky.

This was not underground at all!

In a sudden fury, he forcefully threw the pouch full of explosives towards the squad members. Before the members could check the contents of the pouch, he hastily dashed towards his rear exit.

Though he didn’t know why he ended up here, as long as he retraced his steps, he’d be able to get back under the downtown area.

Having a thorough understanding of the underground layout of the downtown, even if the special operations squad members pursued him through the door, he was confident in shaking them off. As long as he made it out of the subway station and could divert these people under Lilian’s line of sight, the latter could blow off the pursuers’ heads.

However, as soon as he rushed out of the office, a stranger’s hallway and...

A woman rushing straight towards him greeted him.

Lu Xiang!

Will recognized her immediately.

The moment he saw Lu Xiang, his body instinctively responded: he drew the dagger from his waist, not retreating but instead speeding up towards her.

The next moment, he was hit by a wave of powerful nausea.

Throat, abdomen, knife-holding joints...

Almost all at once, he was aware of the hits these parts had taken. With the help of the moonlight coming through the window, Will saw his right hand was bent at a strange angle.

Lu Xiang’s moves were so fast that even the pain was delayed.

The sharp military knife fell to the ground, its clear ring seemingly playing a mournful tune for him.

His vision slanted, the world seeming to spin. Lu Xiang vanished from his sight, replaced by the white ceiling of the hallway.

Before his consciousness plunged into darkness, he vaguely made out a commanding voice.

"Handcuff him and take him to the Interrogation room."

...

That night,

Mr. Will, an artist from the "outside world,"

was arrested on the spot for trying to secretly install explosives in the Law Enforcement Manor in front of a room full of special operations squad members.
